necessary.Butafterwe'vediscoveredthepredominantthemesand
patterns,ithelpsgreatlytomentallystepbackandletthechartspeakto
us.

Inotherwords,tostopeffortingandtryingtosqueezemeaningoutofthe
patterns,andinsteadallowourintuitionanddeepermindsharetheir
insightswithus.

Patternrecognitionmaybebuiltuponconfluence,upontherepetitionof
themesthroughoutthechart,buttoreallyimbueourreadingsandour
understandingswithlife,andwithrealsignificance,weneedtoallowthe
artistwithinustoemerge.

Itisthemarriageofaverydeepunderstandingofthefacts&techniques
ofastrologywiththeagilityandcreativityoftheunboundedmindthat
makesastrologysacred,beautiful,andmagical.

charttogently,yetfirmly,leadustothetruth.

Thecoursewasincrediblyvaluableonmany,manylevels.

Forone,itshowedmetherationalefor"diurnal"housesystemsmore
clearlythanever,andhowexternaleventsmayindeedbemorelinkedto
thesesystems.

TheShriPatihousesystemisunique.ItisnotsimplySiderealPorphyry.
TheSiderealPorphyryhousecuspsareatthe"middle"(asatmost
powerfulpoint,notthemathematicalcenter)ofeachhouseandarecalled
BhavaMadhyas,withthebeginningsandendsofeachhousecalculatedby
trisectingthearcsbetweentheM.C./I.C.axisandthe
Ascendant/Decendantaxis.Inotherwords,bythismethodnolongerdoes
onesign=onehouse.

Butthemathematicsofthismethodisnottherealfocusofthispiece,but
insteadtheinterpretivebenefitsofthissystem.Hereareafew:

1.TransitstotheBhavaMadhyas,i.e.SiderealPorphyrycusps,are
consideredimportantevents.Timeswhenthetransitingplanetwillmost
affectaspecifichouse.

2.TheremanybeviaaconceptcalledinWesternastrologyintercepted
housesmorethanoneBhavaMadhyainasinglesign.Ifso,thena
planetmayrulemorethanoneortwohouses,orevennone.E.g.inachart
withGeminirising,theMadhyaforthe1stand2ndhousesmaybothbein
thesignGemini,andthereforeMercurywouldrulebothofthesehouses.

3.Allissuesthatareassessedbyhouseposition,suchasdigbala,kendra
bala,temporalfriendships,andyogasbasedonhouseandnotsign
positions(e.g.MahaPurushayogas,whichdependuponaplanetbeingin
itsownorexaltedsigninakendra),shouldbeassessedfromtheBhava
chartandnottheRasi(sign=house)chart.

4.Ontheotherhand,aspectsandassociationsarereckonedbyRasi,as
aremanyyogas.IfapatternshowsupintheRasichartbutnotinthe
Bhavachart,itwillmanifestinternallyanddescribepersonalityqualities.
Iftheoppositeistrue,thepatternwillmanifestasexternalevents.
Permanentchartfeatures,likekarakas,againdescribepersonalityand
innerqualities,whiletemporalchartfeatures,suchaslordships(ofBhava
Madhyas)andBhavaplacementwillindicatevisible,externallifeevents.
5.EachBhavaMadhyaactuallyhastwolords.Thelordofthesign
occupiedbytheBhavaMadhya,calleditsstoolalord.Andtheplanetthat
rulesthenakshatraoccupiedbytheBhavaMadhya,calleditssookshma
lord.Bothlordsareofequalimportance,andcanhelpunderstandchart
patternsotherwiseunexplainable.

6.Theprimaryuseofthissystemisindynamic(Dashaandtransit)
analysis,asopposedtostaticnatalchartinterpretation.Inotherwords,in
ordertodelineateaDashaperiodaccurately,itisvaluabletoexamine
boththePermanent(Rasibased)andTemporal(Bhavabased)factors
pertainingtotheplanetwho'speriodisrunning.
