Team Schein Showing Heart

Employees of Henry Schein Dental Austria aid two siblings affected by

diabetes: Diabetis warning dog Ernesto

Vienna, 23. February 2017 - Social commitment has been an integral part of corporate
culture for Henry Schein for years. An important component here is the promotion of the
commitment of Team Schein Members (TSM), the needy in society. It was easy for the
employees of the company, when they listened to the heart desires of two diabetic children of
their community, to support the brothers in the fulfillment of their dream - the financing of an
assistant dog.

For a couple of years, Julian (8) and Moritz (6) Streit from Zeltweg have been suffering from
type 1 diabetes mellitus, a non-curable autoimmune disease, in which the insulin-producing
cells are destroyed in the building gland. Especially in children, the drug setting is difficult due
to many factors such as growth spurts or different daily routines within the school and the
resulting fluctuating blood glucose levels. But hypoglycemia can lead to unconsciousness.
And even high blood glucose levels can lead to serious health consequences in the long
term. A so-called diabetic warning dog can perceive an under- or over-suckling of patients at
an early stage and bark, paw, or other learned actions. Appropriate measures can be taken
in good time. The small patients can be safer and with more freedom, the parents go
unconcerned through life. Such an assistant dog is Julians and Moritz's greatest desire. But
the training for the diabetic warning dog is complex and therefore expensive.

Therefore, Henry Schein Dental Austria employees decided to spend money, organised by
Peter Gollenz, the company 's CAD / CAM specialist, to enable the brothers to let Ernesto, a
Labrador Retriever trained from the AnimalTrainingCenter, a center for scientifically founded,
and positive training of assisting dogs to become a family member. In total, EUR 2,000.00
came from the TSMs, which was tripled by the management to a total of EUR 6,000.00.

"Currently, between 2,500 and 3,000 children and adolescents up to 15 years of age are
diagnosed with diabetes in Austria. I am extremely pleased with the spontaneous
commitment of our team to help here and to provide Julian and Moritz not only a new family
member, but through Ernesto above all security and freedom, which are so important for an
unencumbered growing up of children, "says Roman Reichholf, Managing Director of Henry
Schein Dental Austria, added: "This result is not only a sign of solidarity within Henry Schein,
it also reflects our philosophy of the company to return something to society." *

As early as 2015, the parent company, Henry Schein, Inc., has been supporting a long-term
project with the organization "Canine Campanions for Independence," the first and largest
assistance dog organization in the United States, to support people who volunteer assistance
dogs for the organization.

Henry Schein's commitment to social responsibility has evolved over nearly eight decades
from a deeply rooted family tradition and led to the founding of Henry Schein Cares, the
corporate social responsibility program of the company. This employee initiative is part of
Henry Schein Cares. Within the framework of this program, Henry Schein supports global
activities that enable better medical care for disadvantaged population groups. Henry Schein
Cares focuses on the development of three areas: prevention and treatment, strengthening
self-help, disaster preparedness and emergency relief.
