Accordingtoarecentreport,theclimateisgettingwarmerandtheeffectsofglobalwarmingare
becomingincreasinglynoticeableincountriesthroughouttheworld.
Climatechangeduetofossilfuelisoneofthebiggestproblemsthatwearefacingtoday.Burningfossil
fuel,suchasoil,coalandgasisthewaytoproducecarbondioxideandothergasesthatisoneofthe
causesofglobalwarming.
TheWorldWildFundforNaturehasreleasedTheStateOfTheClimateReportin1997.Thereportisa
warningagainstcompellingevidencesofashiftintheearthsweatherpatternsandchangesinclimate,It
showedahugearrayofconvincingglobaldatawhichclearlysignalthatachangeisalreadyunderway.
Everyregionandmostnationsarefacingadversityofclimatechange.Theyear1995wasthehottestyear
inthehistoryand1997gripsaclosesecond.Thetemperatureoftheearthssurfacevariessubstantially
fromplacetoplace.However,ifaveragedglobally,thesurfacetemperaturediffersfromyeartoyearby
onlyfractionsofadegree.
TheworldisexperiencingthebiggestmeltingsincethelastIceAge.Earlierinthe20thcenturymuchof
SiberiaisthreetofivedegreesCelsiuswarmerthanitwas.Since1850Europesalpineglaciershavelost
halfoftheirvolume.PopulationsofsomepenguininAntarcticahavecrashed.Krills,afoodsourcefor
manymarineanimalshavedeclined,seeminglykilledbywarmerwaters.Manypartsofthetropicshave
becomehotteranddryerespeciallyinthearidregions.Anothereffectthatisalreadyexpectedtooccuris
theriseinsealevels,duetomeltinginthepolaricecaps.In1983,Revellederivedasealevelriseof
about70cmforaglobalwarmingof6k.Globalwarmingispredictedtocauseanincreaseinglobalmean
sealevelby65cmbytheyear2100inareportbyIPCCin1990.Theprimaryeffectofrisingsealevel
willbecauseanincreaseincoastalflooding,stormsurgesandwaveactivities.
Climatechangecouldleadtotheextinctionofsomemigratorybirds.Globalwarminghasalready
changedthemigrationrouteandplaceofsomemigratorybirds.InsomepartsoftheworldIthascaused
dramaticimpactsofwildlifewithrapiddepletionofthetinyplanktonorganismswhichformsthefood
webintheoceans.Thisisthoughttobecontributedtoarecentseveredeclineofsomeseabirds
population,asthefishonwhichtheydependweresuddenlydeprivedoffood.
