3a. Understanding the goals, benefits, and uses of assessment.

1. What type of Assessment tools does your mentor use?

a. My mentor uses the tool, Teaching Strategies Gold. With this tool teachers can
create a developmental profile for each child to answer certain questions. Also,
its based on a 39 points system. For this tool it allows a teacher to generate
comprehensive reports that can be customized easily and shared with family
members and other stakeholders. For example, when a teacher is testing the
child on their alphabet they have a form that they have to fill out, if the child
knows certain letters they get a check mark and if not they get a dash. This
indicates for the teacher and others who have to view the file that this child needs
help with certain letters in the alphabet.

3c. Understanding and practicing responsible assessment to promote

positive outcomes for each child.
2. How does your mentor use observation and assessment tools to support
childrens development and learning?
a. My mentor uses a behavior plan. She sets objectives that she wants each child to
meet and works on that. Along with writing notes on each childs behavior at the
end of the day.
3. How do they practice responsible assessment?
a. My mentor takes notes/proof about why the child is on the color that they are on.
She states that shes not just going to put a child on a high color just because
she is a nice girl, that doesnt mean she is a purple.

3d. Knowing about assessment partnerships with families and with

professional colleagues.
4. How do they build positive, productive assessment partnerships with families and
colleagues?
a. My mentor stated that they all work together. The teachers discuss with the
families where the child is at. Also, each teacher keeps the family updated as
much as possible on how the child is doing.
5. How do they report assessment results?
a. My mentor reports her results in a child assessment portfolio summary. She has
a folder with each childs name on it with all of her results.
6. How do they use observation and assessment to plan and modify environments,
curriculum, and teaching?
a. My mentor stated that if she notices that a child needs more developing in a
certain area she will take notes of it. To help the child work on the area that
needs developing she creates activities to help aid this development.
