The HHS Alumni Foundation in conjunction with the trustees of the Hicksville School

District Board of Education wishes to reach out to former graduates of Hicksville High
School as well as caring business owners scattered all over Long Island and New York
City for their support of the internship program described below. Please get the word out
and seriously consider giving a HHS senior an opportunity to gain valuable knowledge
and work experience.

To All Business Owners and Professionals on Long Island

The Hicksville School District has developed an internship program to provide High
School Seniors with the opportunity to gain work experience prior to graduation. The
District has established partnerships with several local businesses and organizations to
hire seniors as interns in a variety of fields including finance, health and medical services,
education, and fine arts. Completing an internship prior to graduation is an invaluable
experience that the District would like to offer as many seniors as possible. Research
shows that an opportunity like this increases the likelihood of college and career success
for the students of Hicksville.

As the District expands its program to provide the greatest amount of students with this
opportunity, it is seeking additional local business and organizations who have an interest
in offering internships. If you or your firm or organization is interested in offering an
internship to a High School Senior, please contact Board of Education Trustee Mike
Beneventano at mbeneventano@hicksvillepublicschools.org

Happy 70th Anniversary Mom and Dad. Together "ALWAYS".

Thanks so much for posting this! I grew up in Levittown, just across the town line from
Hicksville, where my Dad was a school music teacher for 30 years (Burns Ave. and also

So I am getting on a crowded train this morning and as I went to sit
down, a young woman moves to the center seat and tells me her husband, who is four
people behind me, is sitting there. I say I don't think so, you cannot save seats. Husband
calls me b word and tells me to get a life. She decides she can't even sit next to me and
gets up. Middle seat empty. - more room for me. I had to be 30 years older than this man,
do you think he should have given me the seat? I'm not being sexist, I've gotten up for
both older men and womenLynne Lombardi 1971

This happens so many times on a subway train and metropolitan bus. I find the really
young adults do not give their seat for older adults. People not much younger than sixty
are the ones that stand up and offer up their seat for a person with a cane or older than
they are...SADScherich Cates Rhonda

I was once on the subway and a young boy about 10 years old offered me his seat. He
was with his grandmother and she motioned to me to say yes. She said that so many
people say no thank that she sometimes asks people to say yes because she wanted him to
learn it was a good thing and if people kept saying no, he'd stop asking. It was so nice to
see someone trying to teach a child manners in this day and ageLynne

They should have graciously offered you a seat. I think this is another example of how
our society has lost certain, kind values. My father would always offer a seat to any
woman standing. If she said, "No thank you, I've been sitting in the car for hours," he still
would not sit down. He was uncomfortable sitting if a woman was standing. And this
went on into his 90s. (He lived to be 92)Jean Haughey

then started looking through the list of folks who submitted bio's. I thought I gave you,

find it anywhere. Do you recall it? If not, I'll submit it.

Most people don't know that back in 1912, Hellmann's mayonnaise was
manufactured in England.
In fact, the Titanic was carrying 12,000 jars of the condiment scheduled
for delivery in Vera Cruz, Mexico, which was to be the next port of call
for the great ship after its stop in New York.
This would have been the largest single shipment of mayonnaise ever
delivered to Mexico.
But as we know, the great ship did not make it to New York.
The ship hit an iceberg and sank, and the cargo was forever lost.
The people of Mexico, who were crazy about mayonnaise, and were eagerly
awaiting its delivery, were disconsolate at the loss. Their anguish was
so great, that they declared a National Day of Mourning, which they
still observe to this day.
The National Day of Mourning occurs each year on May 5th and is known,
of course, as Sinko de Mayo.

President Trump took a moment during his Florida rally to invite a very excited
supporter onto the stage and let him speak. Gene Huber, the man in question, is a West
Palm Beach native who apparently waited 13 hours in line to get in the hangar for
Trumps rally on Saturday. Trump said he saw Huber while watching TV coverage earlier
that morning. You can watch the moment via CNN.

I grew up in a town called Hicksville Long Island New York.On
Saturdays it was cartoons then Sunday's you always looked forward to relaxing and
enjoying a big dinner. It was during a time when everyone treated each other like Family.
We went outside to play, we got dirty.... We bought chips & candy from the corner store.
We played Jacks, Red Light, Green Light, Kick the Can, Simon Says, Hide and Seek,
Dodge Ball, Red Rover, Baseball, Softball and Football. We could ride our bikes to the
store, or the park, or down a back road and stay away all day. We even swam in the creek
or lake when we had the chance. We ate beans & hot dogs, mac and cheese & peanut
butter sandwiches. We walked or rode a bike everywhere and never worried about safety.
We never thought to lock our windows or doors at night. We had chores to do around the
house, we helped clean off the table after a meal and ate our meals as a family at a table
together. We weren't AFRAID OF ANYTHING, 'cept our parents. If you fell down you
would just get back up. We challenged each other everywhere...King of the hill. If
someone had a fight, that's what it was...a fight. Kids weren't afraid of fake guns when I
grew up. Real guns were just a part of life and we respected them as well as our parents,
our teachers, the American flag, the principal AND God. We said the Pledge of
Allegiance every time we went to school. We left our houses as soon as we could in the
morning and right after school till our neighbors would yell out for their children as a
reminder to get in the house for the night. If one kid was called for dinner then we all
knew to go home. We watched our mouths around our elders because we knew If we
DISRESPECTED any adult there would be a price to pay and we had manners and
respect otherwise someone else's parents put you in your place. I would not trade
anything for the childhood we had, for we had enough and we had love and all that made
us the adults we are todaySusan Donner Merkler 1968

What is meant by the modern term referred to as 'POLITICAL CORRECTNESS

The definition is found in 4 telegrams at the Truman Library and Museum in

Independence, Missouri. The following are copies of four telegrams between
President Harry Truman and General Douglas MacArthur on the day before the
actual signing of the WWII Surrender Agreement in September 1945.
The contents of those four telegrams below are exactly as received at the end of the
war - not a word has been added or deleted!

(1) Tokyo, Japan 0800-September 1,1945

To: President Harry S Truman
From: General D A MacArthur
Tomorrow we meet with those yellow-bellied bastards and sign the Surrender
Documents, any last minute instructions?

(2) Washington, D C 1300-September 1, 1945

To: D A MacArthur
From: H S Truman
Congratulations, job well done, but you must tone down your obvious dislike of the
Japanese when discussing the terms of the surrender with the press, because some of
your remarks are fundamentally not politically correct!

(3) Tokyo, Japan 1630-September 1, 1945

To: H S Truman
From: D A MacArthur and C H Nimitz
Wilco Sir, but both Chester and I are somewhat confused, exactly what does the
term politically correct mean?

(4) Washington, D C 2120-September 1, 1945

To: D A MacArthur/C H Nimitz
From: H S Truman
Political Correctness is a doctrine, recently fostered by a delusional, illogical
minority and promoted by a sick mainstream media, which holds forth the
proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a piece of shit by the clean end!
Now, with special thanks to the Truman Museum and Harry himself, you and I
finally have a full understanding of what 'POLITICAL CORRECTNESS' really
means!

Your tongue is the only muscle in your body that is attached at

only one
End.

Using a clothing rod to hang your spray bottles will help you to save space (and
eliminate that fun domino effect of grabbing a bottle and knocking over the whole
row.)
I'm super proud of my son Ben, who stepped up this evening to stop a thief at Heidelberg
restaurant in NYC! Way to go, Ben!! Patti Hughes

Michael Mariani I'd love to hear more. Heidelberg is one of my favorite places? Was it at
the bar or in the restaurant?

Pattie Hughes One of my favorites, too. It was in the restaurant. Some fool walked it, and
grabbed the cash off a nearby table, then walked out. Ben went after him, it took a couple
of minutes till others understood what was going on. They got the money back and held
him till the police came. It was over within 15 minutes. And, being the great
restaurant/bar it is, Ben and I were given a shot on the house! lol!! Typical night in
Yorkville.

Ever walk into a room with some

purpose in mind, only to completely forget what that purpose was?
Turns out, doors themselves are to blame for these strange memory lapses.
It's not that we're getting old... it's the door.
Psychologists at the University of Notre Dame have discovered that passing through a
doorway triggers what's known as an event boundary in the mind, separating one set of
thoughts and memories from the next.
Your brain files away the thoughts you had in the previous room and prepares a blank
slate for the new locale.
It's not aging, it's the damn door! Thank goodness for studies like this.

On November 18, 2016, Bette Harrison Germain and Mike Germain lost their son Chad.
I found out recently that a poignant story developed between Chad and a young boy who
lives in Florida.

Obituary of Sergeant Chad Germain

Germain Chad Joseph., of Hicksville, L.I., on November 18, 2016. Beloved son of
Michael F. Germain and Elizabeth J. Germain. Dear brother of Scott Harrison
Germain & wife Patti and Michele Germain Vice & husband Jon. Cherished
lifelong friend of Daniel Patrick McCarthy. Devoted uncle of Nicole, Allison,
Michael, and Kathryn. Sergeant Chad Germain was a thirteen year veteran of the
Hempstead Police Department Patrol Division as well as a veteran of the United
States Marine Corps (Operation Desert Shield) while serving aboard the USS
Eisenhower. Sgt. Germain was a highly decorated police officer who received the
Meritorious Service Award. Chad was following in the footsteps of his father, Sgt.
Michael Germain, Old Westbury Police Department (retired).
Chad was loved and adored by many.
Chad shown here with sister Michelles children Katy &
Michael
Taken a week before Chad passed.
One of the many who loved Chad was an 11 yr old boy, Jack Fleming, from South
Florida with autism who is on a mission to say "thank you" to all law enforcement
officers. This inspirational young man has made it his mission to thank all law
enforcement officers for their sacrifice and service. Hes not letting autism hold him back
from bringing smiles and sharing random acts of kindness.
Jacks dad, John, was a NYPD officer who now serves with the Juno Beach Police. After
arriving in Florida, Jack decided to make a difference taking baked goods, gifts and cards
to police departments, grocery stores, and random Love Every Officer (LEO) locations
in the community.
My cards say, 'Dear Officer, you're a hero. I stand beside you and support you. Love Jack
Fleming and Be safe.'
Chad, a 1989 graduate of Jericho High School became good friends with a classmate,
Caryn Wasserman and the two maintained their friendship over the years.
The friendship that Chad had with Jack was a friendship nurtured because Caryn often
talked about Chad and his job with the Hempstead Police Department.
When Chad heard about Jack thanking police officers in Florida for their work, Chad
would text him and praise him. RememberJack is only 11 years old. Chad said, Caryn
is an amazing woman who is Jack's biggest advocate.

Jack presenting cards to two Florida police officers

Caryn, whose daughter Riley also has autism says, sadly Jack has been bullied and
picked on and feels his connection with officers is a miracle.
"He doesn't have the ability to connect with people, but he connects with officers.
Officers have approached him and gotten teary eyed. It doesn't take much to smile, say hi
or thank you to someone who needs it. Jack feels so good spreading kindness."

A note from Chads very close friend Jack Fleming

Can you PLEASE do this with me? I love my LEOs and I also love and respect our
military and vets. In November my very good friend Chad Germain passed away and it
made me so sad. Chad was the son of Mike Germain and Elizabeth Bette Harrison
Germain both graduates from Hicksville High School class of 1964. Chad served in the
United States Marine Corps and was also a police Sergeant for the Hempstead Police
Department. He sure was my hero.
I want to do something for him and also for our country. I will send a package to our
troops oversees with a thank you letter in memory of Chad.

PLEASE Put a package together (list of requested items below).

who does this with me has a chance to win one. Lets do this easy thing for people who
do so much for us. Are you in? And please share so your friends and family
do it too.

A note from BetteJack continues to help fill the hole in our hearts with his acts of
kindness and support of our First Responders and our Military. This is the epitome of his
tribute to Chad. Chad loved being a Marine and loved being a police officer with the
Hempstead PD. Thank you Jack! You continue to make him proud. The send off that
Chad received overwhelmed Mike and me. We have learned what an amazing friend he
was to so many and what an impact he had on all who knew him. Jack Fleming has
helped fill some of the hole in our hearts. #chadstrong

Hi Just read the story can

we still get boxes together? My granddaughter graduated college before she graduated
from high school. Her college graduation was held at Parris Island. I was so proud to be
an America. Marines know how to celebrate !!! I would love to get some boxes together
and share this beautiful story. Thank you. Leona OHanley Schilling1963

Ingredients
3 eggs
2 Tablespoons Medium Tostitos Salsa
2 Tablespoons Sour Cream
6-10 Leafs of Fresh Spinach (tear or cut into smaller pieces)
2-3 Strips of Cooked Bacon (tear or cut into smaller pieces)
2 Pieces of Smoked Ham (cut into smaller pieces)
2 Pieces of Smoked Turkey (cut into smaller pieces)
2 Pieces of Swiss Cheese (cut into smaller pieces)
Crack eggs into a Medium Size bowl, add some salt and pepper and whisk.
Dump all the remaining ingredients into the egg mixture and mix together.
It is now ready for the frying pan.
I use my new Red Copper pan that is incredible. Nothing sticks and when the mixture is cooked, you
dump onto a dish and the pan is totally empty when done. Cleanup is a breeze!!!

Should be enough for two unless you eat a really hearty breakfast!!!

Lint from your navel makes a handy fire starter.

Warning: Remove lint from your navel before
applying the match.
I havent been receiving newsletters for many months now. Is there a
problem with my e-mail address? Thanks for the good work. Blessings.

We do not email you the newsletter. Henry sends an email each month to let our
subscribers know that the current issue has been posted to our website
http://hixnews.com
The current newsletter stays on the web until the next issue is published. When the new
issue is published, the one being replaced is sent to our archive site that can be accessed
by going to the home page at http://hixnews.com and go to the menu at the top and click
on archives. You can then select an issue that you've missed for those many months and
then you'll be up to date.
Copy the hyperlink http://hixnews.com to a file that you can access whenever you want
to. Then all you need do is click that hyperlink and voila, you are whisked to the current
issue. Hope this helpslove yah bob

Thanks for the newsletterit certainly brings back memories. I used to get the e-mails
from Henry but I dont anymore. Do I have to subscribe again?...Anna May
