6 Advanced configuration
Notice: Do not attempt to enable this functionally unless familiarly with IP networks. This can
be configured at a later time.

6.1 Configuration of access to external data networks

Ethernet port 3 on the DPU may be used for access to a local area IP network on the vessel.
Ethernet port 4 may be used for access to a general purpose IP network with possible access to the
Internet which will enable easy update of chart and automated dynamic licensing. The front-end has
a build-in firewall that will protect the ECDIS computer but it is still required by regulation that
access to the Internet is via an external Firewall only.

Notice that access to a default gateway is restricted to one External network.

Configuration of Static IP address

6.1.1 Advanced settings for External Network 2

This port may be reserved for chart updates via the Internet and access may be time restricted. The
front-end will (when this feature is enabled) only open Ethernet port 4 if requested by the ECDIS
applications chart manager and only for a restricted time. The Ethernet PHY, will be deactivated
when the port is closed and the network equipment on the vessel will react as if the cable is
disconnected i.e. the link signal will disappear.

6.2 Configuration of virtual data lines via TCP/IP

Data may be received from sensors via TCP/IP using the Ethernet ports on the DPU
The window for setting up local ports must be open. Click on Add to create a virtual line for
receiving data.
The ECDIS can both act as a client (the ECDIS is responsible for establishing a TCP/IP connection
to the sensor) or as a server (the sensor is responsible for establishing the connection to the ECDIS).

Notice: TCP/IP connections will be disconnected by the ECDIS if no data is received/transmitted

for 30 seconds. The ECDIS will when configured as a client try to re-establish the connection,
whereas an ECDIS configured as server will wait for the remote client to re-establish the
connection.

Notice: It is a prerequisite for this functionality that one of the external network ports (Ethernet port
3 or 4) is enabled and configured with proper IP address
