PCCW Announcements
PCCW will be assisting the Church in hosting a larger scale Spring Fling (date and details to be
announced soon.) PCCW will hold their traditional Raffle with a beautiful quilt and bird house but we
know there are many undiscovered talents out in our parish - please consider donating items, skills and
services as silent auction items during this fund raising event.
We are still accepting small sample sized toiletry items for the women's shelter and new socks for all ages
for those in need. There is a donation box in the church basement. The kitchen is also in need of new
cotton (flour sack style is great) dish towels and small disposable food containers (no need for new,
butter, cool whip type.)

Ash Wednesday
Wednesday, March 1st is Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent. As a reminder, this is a day of fasting.
The US Catholic Bishops recommend 1 regular meal and 2 smaller meals that do not add up to a second
regular meal, though you can do more or less fasting based on physical capability.

If you would like to feed our CCD kids on Wednesday evenings at 6PM, please contact Julie Snellman Ash Wednesday Mass and distribution of ashes will be held at 5:30 PM in Malta, with a potluck
(she has openings now!) community supper following. All are encouraged to join us and bring their favorite meatless dish to
share. This meal will replace Religious Education for the week.

Diocesan Council of Catholic Women Offers Scholarships Isaiah 58:9-14; Psalm 86:1-6; Luke 5:27-32

The five vicariates of the Great Falls-Billings Diocesan Council of Catholic Women are once again
awarding a $300.00 Scholarship, one in each Vicariate, to a high school graduating senior woman. One
additional scholarship will be awarded to a non-traditional Catholic woman student who is currently
enrolled or will be enrolling in the fall of 2017 at a college, university, or a vocational-technical school.

Trinity Retreat in LewistownMarch 18-19

 Collection for the Church in Central and Eastern Europe
This week, there is a special collection for the Church in Central and Eastern
Europe. You donation in the included envelope helps restore the Church and
build the future in 20 countries, many of which still struggle to recover in the
aftermath of Soviet rule. Funds from this collection help support reconstruc-
tion, education, formation, and poverty outreach. For more information,

Lenten Stations of the Cross

This ancient devotion of spiritually walking in Our Lords footsteps to His Crucifixion is a beautiful way to enter into the penitential
season of Lent.

Drinking the Spirit

Drinking the Spirit is a great new opportunity for us to gather as adult Catholics to grow in our Catholic faith and as a community.
Each week we will have a different Catholic topic with a presenter. Questions and discussions are encouraged. We are each responsi-
ble for our own "beverages" and or food. This should be a relaxing and enjoyable way of learning about the Catholic faith. Please
plan on joining us, spread the word and bring a friend!
We will be meeting at the Tin Cup at 7 PM on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month. Our next session will be February 28th, with
Chris Pippin from Saco speaking about Prayer, the Stairway to Heaven.

Glendive Search
There will be a Search at Sacred Heart in Glendive on April 20th-23rd. Father Jolly Pathiyamoola will be there for this great event.
Grades 10-12 are encouraged to attend. You will find excellent food and make lifelong friends there. Applications are available from
Cathy Salsbery or Dianne Salsbery or Chris Pippin. Transportation for the High Line is being planned. Please mark your calendars.

will take place of the RE classes. Those com-
municants that have been baptized will re-
ceive their First Reconciliation at this time.
The Importance of Weekly Mass Attendance
The Eucharist is the source and summit of the Christian
life. The other sacraments, and indeed all ecclesiastical
ministries and works of the apostolate, are bound up
with the Eucharist and are oriented toward it. For in the
blessed Eucharist is contained the whole spiritual good
of the Church, namely Christ himself, our Pasch. (CCC
1324)
The precept of the Church specifies the law of the Lord
more precisely: On Sundays and other holy days of obli-
gation the faithful are bound to participate in the Mass.
The precept of participating in the Mass is satisfied by
assistance at a Mass which is celebrated anywhere in a
Catholic rite either on the holy day or on the evening of
the preceding day. (CCC 2180)
The Sunday Eucharist is the foundation and confirma-
tion of all Christian practice. For this reason, the faithful
are obliged to participate in the Eucharist on days of ob-
ligation, unless excused for a serious reason (for exam-
ple, illness, the care of infants) or dispensed by their
own pastor. Those who deliberately fail in this obliga-
tion commit a grave sin. (CCC 2181)
The Eucharist is more than simply the culmination of
Christian initiation. While Baptism and Confirmation
serve as a beginning and introduction to the life of the
Church and cannot be repeated, the Eucharist is the liv-
ing and lasting center around which the entire commu-
nity of the Church gathers. The various aspects of the
Eucharist reveal its inexhaustible wealth: it is at one and
the same time a Sacrament of Sacrifice, Communion and
Presence. (St. John Paul II)
Catechesis is intrinsically linked with the whole of litur-
gical and sacramental activity, for it is in the sacraments,
especially in the Eucharist, that Christ Jesus works in
fullness for the transformation of human beings.
