STOICHIOMETRY PRACTICE
Refer to your notes and your map to MoleVille from last unit!! Good Luck!

Part 1: Mole Mole Problems. Show The Process AND TAKE INTO ACCOUNT SIG FIGS?
Consider the following reaction for the burning of acetylene (ethyne) gas :

2 C2H2 + 5 O2 4 CO2 + 2H2O

1. What is the molar ratio between C2H2 and CO2??________________________

2. If you had a 0.70 mol C2H2, how many moles CO2 would you make? Use the process!!

3. What is the mole ratio between C2H2 and O2? ______________________

4. If you have 3.5 mol C2H2, how many moles O2 would you need for a complete reaction?

5. What is the mole ratio between O2 and H2O?________________

6. If you wanted to make 6.0 moles of H2O, how many moles of O2 would be needed?

Part 2: Mass to Mass Problems. SHOW The Process AND TAKE INTO ACCOUNT SIG FIGS!!!

1.What mass of iron is needed to react completely with 32.0 g of sulfur? 2Fe + 3 S Fe2S3

2. Determine the mass of lithium hydroxide produced when 0.38 g of lithium nitride reacts with water according
to the following equation Li3N + 3 H2O NH3 + 3 LiOH

3. Determine the mass of carbon dioxide produced when 0.85 g of butane reacts with oxygen according to the
following equations: 2C4H10 + 13 O2 8 CO2 + 10 H2O

4. What mass of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) must decompose to produce 0.77 g of water?
2 H202 2 H2O + O2
5. Determine the mass of calcium carbide (CaC2) that would be needed to react completely with 5.65 g of
water. CaC2 + 2H2O Ca(OH)2 + C2H2

Part 3: Potpourri Stoich Problems. For some problems, you will have to write out a balance reaction (with balanced
compounds!). Problems also start and end at varying points in the Mole-Ville Map! SHOW The process AND TAKE
INTO ACCOUNT SIG FIGS!!

1. How much nitric acid (HNO3) is needed to completely react with 25.0 g of magnesium in a single
replacement reaction.

2. How much pure iron is produced from 38.3 g of aluminum in the single replacement reaction of
aluminum reacting with iron (III) oxide.

3. What mass of carbon monoxide would be produced from 3.5 moles of carbon.
Sb2O3 + 3 C 2 Sb + 3 CO

4. How many moles of Sb2O3 would be needed to react with 0.98 g of C.

Sb2O3 + 3 C 2 Sb + 3 CO

5. In the combination (synthesis) reaction where water and diphosphorus pentoxide form phosphoric
acid ( H3PO4), what masses of water and diphosphorus pentoxide will be needed to form 95.5 g of
phosphoric acid?

6. How many moles of propane (C3H8) burn in the presence of oxygen to produce 28.5g of water. Write
out the combustion reaction.
