Dear Mrs. Boutilier:

I am going to be helping seniors with technology at the Wethersfield Senior Center. I will be
helping them to learn anything new or need help with anything on technological devices. I will
be at the center on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4PM to 5PM. I am interested in doing this type
of project because I like to help people with technology in general and this gives me the ability to
share what I know about technology and share it with others by teaching them. I will be helping
the community by teaching seniors about technology so their lives become more convenient.

My research question is: What is the importance of technology in our world and why do we
need to be fluent in technology in our era? Technology has made life a lot more convenient
and easier and has decreased poverty, changed the way people live their lives, and has helped
people enjoy their lives more. This connects to my project because I will be teaching seniors
how to use the most useful tool in life during this era since not being fluent in technology in
todays world is like not knowing how to walk. Without it, one can be certain to struggle with
life and daily tasks.

My mentor is going to be Lisa Galipo. She is fluent in technology and helps people at the
computer lab at the senior center as needed since she has around 30 years of experience in
helping people with technology. She will be guiding me by giving me advice on how to talk to
seniors in a way that they understand more and sort of "embed" my teachings into their
mind. Similarly, she will help me if there is something I do not understand while helping a
senior with a technological device. By doing this project, I will be learning how to work
with seniors more and take more care of them and help them every time
possible when it comes to technology. This is out of my comfort zone
because, my entire life, I have never had to help adults and especially when
it comes to seniors, I have absolutely no experience since I did not talk to my
grandparents at all either. So this is an entirely new experience for me
considering I have to talk to an age group I have never before. I will also
learn how to communicate with a senior in a manner that he/she
understands what I am saying and they can process it in their minds and
memorize my teachings if possible by any chance.

Sincerely,

Bilal Nizami
