Article of Faith #1- The Godhead

1. I have chosen to write about the scripture block that is Mosiah 15:1-11.
However, I have specifically chosen to write about verse 9, which says,
Having ascended into heaven, having he bowels of mercy; being filled
with compassion towards the children of men standing betwixt them
and justice; having broken the bands of death, taken upon himself their
iniquity and their transgressions. Having redeemed them. And satisfied
the demands of justice. I chose this verse, mainly because it stood out
to me the most out of all the readings. I really love the feeling that I
get when I learn that Christ will advocate for us on our behalves. He
was the perfect one, not us. And yet he suffered. That was the way it
had to happen so that the demands of justice could be satisfied. This
principle/doctrine is that Christ will be our advocate.
2. Moroni 7:28 says, For he hath answered the ends of the law, and he
claimest all those who have faith in him; and they who have faith in
him will cleave unto every good thing; wherefore he advocateth the
cause of the children of men; and he dwelleth eternally in the
heavens.
Mosiah 14:12 says, Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great,
and he shall divide the spoils with the strong because he hath poured
out his soul unto death and he was numbered with the transgressors;
and he bore the sins of many, and made intercession for the
transgressors.
3. Joseph B. Wirthlin once said in the 1996 October General Conference,
Through the marvelous power of the Atonement of Jesus Christ, a
power activated by our obedience to His commandments, we can be
washed clean of our sins. His infinite mercy can satisfy the demands
of justice.
James E. Faust once quoted President J. Reuben Clarke Jr., in the
October 2001 General Conference, saying, I feel that [the Savior]
willbring into his justice all of the infinite love and blessing and
mercy and kindness and understanding which he has... As Isaiah wrote,
if we will return unto the Lord, he will abundantly pardon.
4. Is the debt we owe already paid no matter what? Or is it only paid for
when we repent?
5. I talked about this with Justin Peterson. We could talk endlessly about
the Atonement and all that it does for us, but when I told him my
inspired question, he encouraged me to look up the BYU devotional
talk by Brother Brad Wilcox called, His Grace is Sufficient. I did look it
up and I got the answer to my inspired question! Anyways, Justin said
that He doesnt even think that (like Brad Wilcox said) Christ will be
kicking anyone out. He thinks that when Christ advocates for those
who have sinned, the sinners will be the ones who choose to leave. He
made an excellent point about those who sin are uncomfortable in the
spirit.
6. I love that Christ will advocate for us. Its amazing how this was even
possible, so that we arent doomed due to our imperfections and
weaknesses. My challenge is to repent every week for the things I have
done wrong that week. My patriarchal blessing counsels me to do that
and as I get better at making that a habit, I hope to be able to get to
the point where I can repent every day.
