CAS Reflection Form

Activity Name: Badminton

CAS element(s) involved:

C A S Group

Is this activity completed or ongoing?

- This activity is completed for Year 11 Term 1, however I plan to do badminton as
another part of my CAS project for Year 12

Activity Reflection: Comment only on those learning outcomes listed below that are
relevant to this activity.
You may want to comment on:
- Initially, my teammates and I had our sights on coming 1st in our respective division in
the Normanhurst Badminton competition. While we were unable to achieve our
desired rank, we did however, manage to come 3rd overall in our division.
- In this term of badminton, I was able to learn how to smash, drive and play
accordingly to our teammates play styles.
- Prior to this competition, we were placed in teams that we were not normally used to.
As a result, we had to work on our teamwork and synergy with one another before
working on refining our skills and obtaining new skills. To prepare for the upcoming
doubles game, we would practice our combinations in training prior to the
competition. However, since we were not able to correctly determine which
combination of doubles was our strongest, we had to alternate the combinations
every week. Gradually over the course of the competition, we became more
accustomed to our partners play style and we were able to communicate effectively
with them in game. Moreover, we were also able to determine and differentiate as to
which combination is our weakest and which is our strongest. Nearing the end of the
competition, we were able to play with our teammates in their most comfortable and
strongest roles.
- During the competition, we found it increasingly difficult to communicate effectively
with our partner as to what we should be doing in game [and more specifically, in our
doubles matches]. As a result, we had to sit down together on multiple occasions to
go over and revise our theoretical plans in a badminton match. We even consulted
with our badminton coaches for the most appropriate method we should undertake in
our hypothesised situations.
- As badminton is a team orientated sport, I found it particularly encouraging when
your teammates cheer others on during their match. This would motivate me and my
teammates to play better and develop more resilience towards the end of the match.
Moreover, by working collaboratively with my teammates, we were able to deduce
each others play styles and how to play around it to better develop our synergy with
each other. With the aid of my teammates, I was able to learn and find out that I
played a lot better in the half closer to the net as I was more skilled in driving and
netting.
- From this terms badminton experience, I wish to continue this activity as a part of my
Yr 12 Term 2 activity in the future. Hopefully in a years time, our team will be able to
improve and play better for the next upcoming Normanhurst Badminton competition

LO1 Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

Students are able to see themselves as individuals with various
abilities and skills, of which some are more developed than others.

LO2 Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken,

developing new skills in the process
A new challenge may be an unfamiliar experience or an extension of
an existing one. The newly acquired or developed skills may be shown
through experiences that the student has not previously undertaken or
through increased expertise in an established area.

LO3 Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

Students can articulate the stages from conceiving an idea to
executing a plan for a CAS experience or series of CAS experiences. This
may be accomplished in collaboration with other participants. Students may
show their knowledge and awareness by building on a previous
experience, or by launching a new idea or process.

LO4 Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

Students demonstrate regular involvement and active engagement in
CAS.

LO5 Demonstrate the skills and recognise the benefits of working

collaboratively
