This is a website that has content of first person descriptions of what it feels like to have
selective mutism. We can use this site to help deduct how such feelings may cause
hinderance in interactions and ultimately affect relationships with the community.

goes through a stage where she does not speak to stranger, then people outside of the

This site is a blog from a mother's perspective on selective mutism. In her blogs, she
describes the different experiences her daughter has gone through. She also explains the

This is an article which explains in simple terms exactly what selective mutism is, what it

is caused by, and its effects on the victim. It elaborates on the science and psychology of
mutism. In many cases, the child feels as though refusing to speak or speaking in a
whisper may save him or her humiliation. In others, the child has had past traumatic
experiences which makes them shut down in situations reminding them of that
experience, relating to it, or simply when they are recalling it.

This site is a group chat for people with selective mutism, and allows them to share their
story. Some of these stories are from the view of parents; however, the posts are usually
from the side of the SM.

site, I can understand the behaviours of people with selective mutism, and how it may
cause difficulty in communication between an individual and the general public.
