Psychoactive Drug Group Project

Module 9 Test Grade

Directions: You and your partner/group members will be researching and presenting information
based on your assigned psychoactive drug. It is your responsibility to make sure the class receives an
adequate representation of what your assigned drug is, what the effects are, and how we can prevent
people from forming a dependence on that drug. As always, you should discuss your drug in
ACADEMIC terms.
Project Requirements
Format
You may choose the format(s). Examples include a poster, a PowerPoint, a booklet, and a
paper.
Information must be clear and organized- NOT copied and pasted
General Information Required
Description of the drug, including what it is made of
Alternate names for the drug
Classification of the drug (stimulant, depressant, etc) AND explanation of WHY it is classified
as such
Manner in which the drug is ingested or taken
Effects:
o Psychological effects to the brain
o Physiological effects on the rest of the body
o Duration of effects (both short term, long term and permanent)
What occurs when someone is dependent on the drug (psychological and physical)
Symptoms of withdrawal (psychological and physical)
One additional slide/portion of your project dedicated to a topic of your choice that you found
interesting during your research
Psychoactive Drugs in Our Culture
Depict how the drug is viewed in American culture
o The content of this portion will be vastly different for each drug. Think about all the
stereotypes and controversy that come with your drug.. Is there a debate about its
legality? Is it widely popular? With what is it associated?
Dependence Help
Create a step-by-step plan for someone to overcome dependence of the drug.
o Think of local facilities to attend, school resources, community meetings, etc.
o You will probably want to use a combination of places/behaviors for help
Prevention
Create a Public Service Announcement that can be displayed to prevent people from using the
drug.
o This should be separate from the other contents- it must be able to be displayed/shown
o BE CREATIVE- must be in color and catchy
On the back of your PSA or on a separate sheet of paper, explain in a paragraph minimum why
your PSA will be effective in accomplishing your goal of prevention.

Presentation
Presentations must cover all information in your project, but theres no time limit
Presenters must know what they are talking about.. Meaning you must rehearse and BE
PREPARED.
All group members will receive a grade based on the presentation as a whole- not individually
Additional Requirements:
All sources must be documented somewhere on your project
All group members will be evaluated by their peers so you must do your part!
Again, all information must be presented in an academic format. Drug use and dependence is a
serious matter that people deal with daily. Please be respectful to all because you do not know
who it might effect. Jokes and flippancy are not appropriate at any time during this project.
