Greetings From Our Regional Director

Dear Western Region members,
It is January 31st as I write this note to you. I don't know about you, but I am shocked at
how fast January has flown by. Soon the crocus will be poking their little heads up and the
daffodils will bring much needed color to our world. I can't wait! And speaking of things I
can't wait for...our board has been working diligently to offer new and engaging profession-
al development opportunities for you. Stay tuned to Hues News and the monthly
NewsBlast for these invents. As you can see, we'll be going to La Comedia dinner theater
together, have two great workshop opportunities, and a field trip! Is there something
Darden Bradshaw you've wanted to do? A workshop you've wanted to try? Reach out to the board and let us
know...we are always looking for new (and tried and true) ideas. Our WOAEA Board
meeting are held the first Tuesday of the Month (except March due to NAEA) at 6:30 pm at Panera Bread on
Brown street. Everyone is welcome to join us! We'd love to have your input, ideas and feedback.
March is Arts in Education Month and we will celebrate our young artists through the YAM/YPAE celebration at
the STRS building. Our YAM/YPAE representation was not as great as it has been in years past. If you're not
sure if you and your students are eligible, look elsewhere in this newsletter for a breakdown of the various exhibi-
tion opportunities OEAE makes available to you. Also, many of you have shows happening in your school, dis-
trict, or area in the coming months....please let us know so we can share it with the membership and celebrate
alongside you and your students!
Finally, the National Art Education Association Conference will be held in NYC March 2-4. Attendees are look-
ing forward to the great professional development, speakers, and amazing art trips. If you are attending and
would like to write a brief column about your experience for the Hues News, we'd be grateful to share your per-
spective.
Till next time, enjoy the beauty of spring!

Spring Group Outing LaComedia! May 7, 2017

WOAEA will be attending the dinner theater this upcoming spring as a way to celebrate the arts and build relationships
with fellow art teachers in the area. We will be attending the LaComedia dinner theater on May 7th for their brunch show
of Sister Act. If we get a group of 20 or more then we will qualify for discounted tickets!
Please email Megan Newton at mnewton@miamisburg.k12.oh.us by March 1st if you are planning on attending. Family
members are welcome!
April 27-June 18, 2017
Sister Act is the feel-good musical comedy smash
hit based on the hit 1992 film that has audiences jump-
ing to their feet! Featuring original music by Tony-and
eight-time Oscar winner, Alan Menken, this uplifting
musical was nominated for five Tony Awards, including
Best Musical.
When disco diva, Deloris Van Cartier, witnesses a
murder, she is put into protective custody in the one
place the cops are sure she wont be found: a convent!
Disguised as a nun, she uses her uniquedisco
moves and singing talent to inspire the choir and
breathe new life into the church and community.

Nibble N Network Recap December 2016

This past December members of WOAEA spent time together at Darden
Bradshaws house for hot cocoa and friendship. This was the biggest turnout
we have had in years! Everyone brought a food item to share and we enjoyed
a hot cocoa bar with all the fixings. Everyone who came received a cup that
was hand decorated with alcohol inks by Alice Tavani (OAEA President),
Darden, and Dardens mother. It seems like everyone truly appreciated all the
conversations and camaraderie with fellow art teachers in the area. Be sure to
join us this year!

Winter Workshop Recap February 2017

"Happy Hour with Alcohol....Inks"
Friday, February 3, from 5:00-8:00pm we had a wonderful opportunity to
play with alcohol inks on transparencies, tiles, and 3-D ceramic ware. The
event was held at the University of Dayton, Department of Art & Design
and included a visit to Radial Gallery to see the current exhibition Multi-
Verse, highlighting the work of Julie Abijanac, Karla Hackenmiller, Na-
talie Lanese and Susan Li OConnor. It was a great evening of explora-
tion, play and camaraderie with art educators and those supporting the arts
in the Western region. In attendance from Miamisburg district were Me-
gan Newton, Clarissa Derr, Wendy Waganer Harris, Noel Pohlman and
Cathy Sweny (retired). Bonita Taggart (Bellbrook), Eric Hofstetter
(Northridge) and Darden Bradshaw (UD) were present, along with Alice
Tavani and Suzanne Mitolo from the Centerville SD. Jane Bradshaw-
Magee, Caroline Krieger, and Lena Lonigro - all avid artists and patrons
of the arts - joined in the fun!
