1a Why ISO 9001 was developed
After 2nd World War, Europe was in ruins USA set up all type of factories in Europe to help and revive various countrieseconomically and socially. It was realized that American plants of these organizations produced different quality of goods as compared to their European plantseven though they were similar in all respects. Britain realized that SYSTEMS were required to ensure same qualitynot just machines and materials. It was determined that these systems could be generalized for any type of organization to ensure consistent quality of product; It was also realized that even though an organization provided products or services, these systems were similar. These systems were published in the form of QUALITY MANAGEMENT STANDARDS by UNOs Agency based in Geneva. The purpose is to assist organizations to provide goods and services of CONSISTENT QUALITY. The standards were first published in 1987and have been revised in 1994, 2000 and 2008. These standards have been adopted by over 130 countries of the worldand more than a million organizations in the world have been certified so far including almost 1 lakh in India. China and UK have the largest number of organizations certified to ISO 9001. The structure of this standard has now been adopted for other standards dealing with environment, health and safety, food processing, information security, automotive parts, etc. These standards are based on Demings most widely adopted method of PDCA concept, i.e. PLAN, DO, CHECK and ACT. The standards help an organization to identify areas of improvements of both products as well as its operations. The key focus of the standards is to guide an organization in achieving CUSTOMER SATISFACTION when it provides product/service to its customers. It is based on collective experiences and management knowledge of thousands of experts from all over the world. They are useful to all types and sizes of organizations in all corners of the world. 1b What happened when ISO 9001 was introduced in India around 1990 2a Overview of 9K 2b Method of Certification Audit; Surveillance Audits, Renewal 3a Introductory Clause 1.2; Product/Service are same for 9K; A few Definitions 3b Clause 4.1 4a Clause 4.2 4b Clause 4.2 5a Clause 8Cust.
