DOSAGE CALCULATIONS:
ADDITIONAL PRACTICE QUESTIONS
Strict aseptic technique must be used when reconstituting medications. Once the drug is reconstituted,
any unused amount must be labeled and stored appropriately (either at room temperature or in the
refrigerator). Take special notice of how long the drug is stable.
Using the following Basic Formula can help to simplify your drug calculations:
D x V = amount to give
H
b. If there is medication left in the vial after you prepare your dose, how should you label
the vial?

RECONSTITUTION OF POWDERED DRUGS ANSWER KEY
1a. 500 mg X 1 mL = 2 mL
250 mg
2. 165 mg X 1 mL =
330 mg 0.5 mL
3. 300,000 units X 10 mL = 3 mL
1,000,000 units
4. 750 mg X 1 mL = 1.5 mL
500 mg
5. 250 mg X 20 mL = 20 mL
250 mg
6. 250 mg X 10 mL = 5 mL
500 mg
7. 750 mg X 1 mL = 2.5 mL
300 mg
8. 250 mg X 1 mL = 2.5 mL
100 mg
10a. None of the concentrations match the number of mg that you have to give
so it doesnt matter which of the 3 ways of preparing the medication that
you choose.
