Pros and Cons of Curriculum 2013

Curriculum 2013 started to be implanted on the school academic year

2013/2014. Although it has been officially used but the latest curriculum is still raising
the pros and cons among educational practitioners.

Those who support it state that Curriculum 2013 is actually aiming to solidify the
lessons so it does not burden the students. As a result, students will focus on the
challenges of the future of the nation. So also with the teachers, they are not burdened
in the preparation of the Education Unit Level Curriculum.

Further Curriculum 2013 itself is actually not something new. Curriculum 2013 is
a combination of two kinds of earlier educational curriculum in Indonesia; CBSA (active
student learning) and KTSP (education level curriculum). It is very advantegeous as
CBSA teaches students to be critical.

Conversely, those who do not agree with Curriculum 2013 state the new
curriculum is less focus because it combines the learning subjects. In primary school , it
combines science subjects with Indonesian. According to them combining two subjects
into one material may not be effective as it does not consider teachers competences in
most of schools in different regions in Indonesia.

Some parents also do not agree with Curriculum 2013 as they still want that
English is given to students from primary school. They argue that mastering foreign
language need long time and process and it is good if started from earlier. They added
that many sources of common knowledges are written in foreign language, especially
English.

The reason for the application of Curriculum 2013 also does not have a strong
foundation. There is no in-depth study of the causes of the failure of previous curriculum
which makes it to be replaced with the new one

Finally, the pros and cons are always there. Curriculum 2013 has been already
implemented. Will this new curriculum successfully lead education in Indonesia to move
forward? Were all going to see it.

a lot of time in preparation and delivery. Parents have to research topics, prepare the

Music is Fun for Learning English

Learning English through music and songs can be very enjoyable. You can mix
pleasure with learning when you listen to a song and exploit the song as a means to
your English progress. Some underlying reason can be drawn to support the idea why
we use songs in language learning.
Firstly, the song stuck in my head Phenomenon (the echoing in our minds of
the last song we heard after leaving a restaurant, shopping malls, etc) can be both
enjoyable and sometimes unnerving. This phenomenon also seems to reinforce the idea
that songs work on our short-and-long term memory.

Secondly, songs in general also use simple conversational language, with a lot of
repetition, which is just what many learners look for sample text. The fact that they are
effective makes them many times more motivating than other text. Although usually
simple, some songs can be quite complex syntactically, lexically and poetically, and can
be analyzed in the same way as any other literary sample.

Furthermore, song can be appropriated by listener for their own purpose. Most
pop songs and probably many other types dont have precise people, place or time
reference.

In addition, songs are relaxing. They provide variety and fun, and encourage
harmony within oneself and within one group. Little wonder they are important tools in
sustaining culture, religion, patriotism and yeas, even revolution.

Last but not least, there are many learning activities we can do with songs such
as studying grammar, practicing selective listening.

How Does a Kite Fly?

A kite is an object which is made from a light material stretched over a frame.
Due to its light material, a kite will lift off the ground and fly when it is tilted into the
wind.

To fly, a kite is uses wind to make it fly because it is heavier than air. When wind
travels over the surface of the kite, it is split into two streams of air. One stream of the
air goes over the kite while the second stream goes under the kite. The upper stream
creates an area of low pressure above the kite. The lower stream hits the kite at a
shallow angle and creates an area of high pressure. The high pressure area has a
pushing effect while the low pressure area has a pulling effect.

The combination of push and pull can create enough force to lift the kite into the
air.

Why Seawater is Salty?

Most of our planets surface is covered in water salt water. The oceans that
support so much of Earths life are around 3.5% sodium chloride 50 million billion tone
of salt.

But where does it come from? While some of it comes from volcanic vents or
rocks on the seabed, most of it is actually from the land around us. Every time it rains,
tiny amounts of mineral salts are washed into rivers, which eventually flow into the sea.

The salt in rivers is less than 1/200th the amount usually found in seawater. It
becomes more concentrated in the ocean, as the Suns heat causes water from the
surface to evaporate, leaving the salt behind. Extra salt added every year from rivers is
balanced by salt which returns to the sea floor.

But salinity isnt the same everywhere. Towards the poles, water is not as salty
because its diluted by melting ice, while the extra heat in the tropics makes water
there saltier and denser.
