SERVICES OFFERED BY ADP
The U.S. Undergraduate Degree is a 4-year degree.

Students gain direct entry to university level after SPM (or

equivalent), no pre-U studies required.
Students need to complete about 40 43 courses in order to get a
bachelors degree.
Most courses are 3 credits; therefore, total credits accumulated after
4 years = 120 129 credits.
o Credit hours total lecture hours spent per subject, per week,
per semester.
o Note: Some courses like the sciences can be 4 credits and some
math courses like calculus have 5 credits.

Examples in an ordinary 14-week semester:

ENGL 101 3 credits 3 lecture hours per week x 14 weeks
PHYS 211 4 credits 3 lecture hours and 2 lab hours per
week x 14 weeks
MATH 171 5 credits 5 lecture hours per week x 14 weeks
You can take between 3 5 courses and accumulate approximately 9
16 credit hours during a long semester; and 2 3 courses during a
short semester (6 9 credit hours).
Total duration to complete 18 20 courses (approx. 60 70 credit
hours) is between 5 6 semesters, depending on the speed of
progress. If a student fails any particular subject, they are given an
option to repeat it the following semester.
The ADP program uses a continuous learning and testing system
where students are involved in projects, teamwork, presentations,
extra- and co-curricular activities; the education is learning-driven
instead of exam-driven. Students are groomed to be all rounded team
players with strong critical thinking and communication skills.
The curriculum is broad based hence flexible, students are allowed to
switch major if they decided to do so even after 2 years of studies.

COMPONENT OF AN AMERICAN DEGREE

General Education: An academic program that offers courses in the arts

and sciences that provides students with a broad and holistic educational
experience. Courses typically are introductory in nature and provide students with
fundamental skills and knowledge in Mathematics, English, arts, humanities, and
physical, biological, and social sciences. Completion of a general education
program is required for a baccalaureate degree.

Core Requirements: Core requirements also known as core courses.

Core courses are the required courses within a degree or certificate and must be
completed with a grade of "C" or better.

Electives: Elective courses are courses that are in addition to the core
requirements of a program. Students choose electives based on a list specified by
their program or in specific approved areas of interest. Students should choose
electives in consultation with their program advisor.

Major: A major is a program of study offering both depth and breadth in a

particular discipline or field of study. The requirements and the curriculum for a
major are determined by the academic department offering the major.

Double Major: Double majors or dual majors consist of two majors

attached to a single degree. Students can complete the requirements for two
majors at the same time and they can use the same General Education and
Elective credits. Students can complete two degrees in an additional 6 months to 1
year.

Double Major examples:

o Two complementary majors - strengthens skill for intended career.

Business + Communication
Psychology + Education

Two completely different majors - for personal interest and

accomplishment.
Engineering + Theatre
Politics + Dance

Page | 8 3/2/2017
Minor: A minor is a program of study, with less depth than a major. It may be
completed to complement, or as an addition to a major. Minors are not mandatory.
The requirements and the curriculum for a minor are determined by the academic
department offering the minor.

Credit Hours: Credit hours are strictly time-based references for measuring
educational attainment used by American universities and colleges; a semester
hour is one hour of class, recitation, or two or more hours of laboratory work, per
week through one semester of approximately 14 weeks.

MAJOR SPECIALIZATION

Actuarial Science
How can a corporation determine the financial risks of manufacturing shoes in
China? How does an insurance company know how much to charge automobile
owners for collision insurance? Do people really keep tab on such things?

Of course they do. These risk evaluators are called actuaries, and they spend their
days calculating the costs to assume all different kinds of risks. More precisely,
Actuarial Science is the mathematical and statistical underpinning of every kind of

Page | 43 3/2/2017
insurance on earth - health insurance, life insurance, property insurance, pension
plans, you name it. There really aren't that many people in the actuarial profession
- less than 20,000 in North America - but they make good money their entire
careers (most end up in upper management and executive positions) and they like
what they do; actuaries consistently give their line of work stellar job satisfaction
ratings.

If you major in Actuarial Science, you'll become something of a Zen Master in

statistics and, upon graduation; you will likely take a job in the insurance industry.
You should note that actuaries only achieve professional status by passing a series
of hairy examinations prescribed by the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) or Society
of Actuaries (SOA). Examinations are held twice each year, in the spring and fall.

Advertising
If you major in Advertising, you'll become something of an expert in advertising
principles, copywriting and layout, media campaigns, and media economics. You'll
also hone your writing, presentation, and problem-solving skills. You'll become a
pretty good psychologist, too. You'll learn how and why people make decisions and
how to influence those decisions. Behind all the glitz and the cool slogans,
Advertising is really about understanding what motivates people to buy a product,
or use a service, or support a cause.

Advertising is an overwhelmingly project-oriented major. You'll spend enormous

chunks of time looking at ads, talking about them, and criticizing them. You'll
mostly learn about Advertising by doing Advertising. You'll develop concepts and
portfolios. You'll swamp yourself in market research (maybe even for real firms).
You'll create sales presentations and come up with irresistible jingles designed to
motivate your target audience. Most importantly, you'll have internships. They are
utterly indispensable. When recruiters come to campus, or employers are
eyeballing you for that Big First Job, they'll be a lot more interested in you if you
have a few internships under your belt.

After graduation, most Advertising majors go to work for traditional Advertising

agencies, media conglomerates, or marketing firms.

Aerospace Engineering
We're certainly not rocket scientists, but you can be one by choosing Aerospace
Engineering (or Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering, as it's often called) as
your major. Be forewarned, though: it will be rigorous, difficult, and time
consuming.

Aerospace Engineering is all about flight - airplanes, spacecraft, hovercraft,

helicopters, you name it. It includes the study of aerodynamics, aerospace
structures, propulsion, flight mechanics and systems, and vehicle design. If you
major in Aerospace Engineering, you'll endure four seriously intense years, but

Page | 44 3/2/2017
you'll graduate with a solid understanding of the physical fundamentals underlying
atmospheric and space flight and the ability to research, analyze, and design the
flying machines of the future.

This knowledge will serve you well. The aerospace industry is the second largest
industry in the United States, and it is definitely one of the largest employers of
engineers. With a major in Aerospace Engineering, you can expect to land a fairly
lucrative job with a big aircraft manufacturer, an airline, or with NASA. You'll also be
qualified to continue your education at the graduate level or to work in any number
of non-aerospace fields.

Automotive Engineering
As an automotive engineering major, youll examine the operating principles of the
mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic systems of automobiles. Youll pick
up the specialized vocabulary that accompanies these systems so you can throw
around terms like transaxle with true authority. Youll gain an insiders
understanding of the automotive industry and learn the technological issues
involved in designing and marketing cars as you take an in-depth look at the
materials, manufacturing, ergonomics, and design testing that are the basis of
automotive engineering.

The automotive industry is challenging and exciting, and your automotive

engineering major will give you the skills you need to make a worthwhile
contribution to it. Youll become familiar with the nuts and bolts of automobiles, so
to speak, so youll be able to identify and solve problems with current systems, as
well as to design new ones that are reliable, functional, and innovative.

Some programs combine automotive engineering with courses in mechanical

engineering, so be sure to research your prospective programs carefully if you think
this is something you might like.

Biochemistry
Do you love chemistry? Do you go all soft and squishy in your biology class? Do you
wish you could somehow take them both at once? (Are you out of your mind?) Well,
you can if you major in Biochemistry.

Page | 45 3/2/2017
Biochemistry majors study the chemistry of living thingsthe molecular
compounds, substances, and physiology that make them tick. You can think of it as
teeny biology. Biochemists study the minuet, discrete characteristics of every
organism and biological process. Youll be the envy of pre-med majors everywhere
because since youll probably like it, you will actually understand organic chemistry.
This major is also good preparation if you are considering medical school as a
possibility.

Remember that most college science classes require extensive lab time. Be
prepared to do more bonding with your lab partner than with your roommate or
significant other. (Unless, of course, your lab partner is your roommate or
significant other.)

Biomedical Engineering
Engineering for Life is a phrase Columbia University couples with their biomedical
engineering program. Theyre right on target, of course. Biomedical engineers have
saved and improved lives of people around the globe through breakthroughs and
innovations that have helped solve problems that have baffled the industry for
years. Patients who benefit from an artificial organ or a prosthetic limb, for
example, have biomedical engineers to thank.

Through your major in biomedical engineering, youll learn how to use physics,
chemistry, mathematics, and engineering to produce solutions to important
biological and medical problems. Topics span from the fundamental studies of
biological structures to applied medical device design and evaluation. Many of your
investigations will involve the design and development of implantable or indwelling
devices such as orthopedic, cardiac, endovascular, drug delivery, or cell- and
tissue-engineered systems. As a biomedical engineering major, youll also be
responsible for understanding laboratory techniques, concepts of engineering
design, and the ethics involved when practicing the development of biomedical
devices and systems.

Through research (both your own and that of others) youll see practical
applications of the laws of biology and how what you study leads to new
advancements in fields far outside the realm of engineering.

Many biomedical engineering programs also cover the basics of our healthcare
system, meaning you could study health management systems and legal and
ethical issues in healthcare. The field of biomedical engineering changes rapidly,
and many students choose to pursue advanced degrees to stay on top of the latest
devices or techniques, which emerge practically daily. Graduates may find
themselves working with pharmaceuticals, medical devices, artificial organs,
prosthetics and sensory aids, diagnostics, medical instrumentation, or medical
imaging.

Biomedical Science
Page | 46 3/2/2017
Biomedical science combines the fields of biology and medicine in order to focus on
the health of both animals and humans. As a biomedical science major, youll study
biochemical and physiological functions, anatomical and histological structures,
epidemiology, and pharmacology. Youll learn how to both maintain and promote
health in humans and animals with knowledge in the basics of nutrition, diseases,
and immunology. Delve into fields such as cell and molecular biology, parasitology,
and toxicology, and emerge with hands-on experience through laboratory work and
research.

Majors in biomedical science are poised to make valuable contributions to the fields
of both biology and medicineand many move on to make discoveries in the field
of biology that have important effects in the medical world. While there are copious
careers available to students who obtain a Bachelor of Science degree, many
students choose to pursue additional education in professional or graduate school.

As a biomedical science major, you may go on to make advancements in the study

of cancer or AIDS, become involved in the research of infectious diseases, or propel
science toward improving the human condition in any of hundreds of other ways.
Get set to make a scientifically sound difference in the health of living beings.

Biotechnology
Biotechnology is a new and very, very hot field. Building on the advancements
made through molecular biology and biochemistry, biotechnology is centered on
the ways we can manipulate and exploit genes (not the faded, slightly tight ones
that make you look skinny, but the really tight ones that hang out on
chromosomes). Youll learn about how genes operate and how those operations can
be altered.

By combining just about every science known to man (chemistry, biology, food
science, animal science, earth science, and plant science, for starters) this major is
perfect for the student who wants to know how every living thingeverything
works. Whether you dream of spending thousands of hours researching as an
academia, or want to help figure out how to clone a monkeys heart, a
Biotechnology major is sure to keep you on your toes with rapid advancements and
a world of opportunities to which you can apply your knowledge. (Note: trying to
clone yourself in your basement is still illegal, so dont get any fancy ideas.)

Chemical Engineering
If you major in Chemical Engineering, you'll learn how to reorganize the structure of
molecules and how to design chemical processes through which chemicals,
petroleum, foods, and pharmaceuticals can undergo. You'll learn how to build and
operate industrial plants where raw materials are chemically altered. You'll learn
how to keep the environment safe from potential pollution and hazardous waste,
too.

Chemical Engineering is not an easy major (at all), but if you can make it through to
graduation day, you'll be in demand. Paper mills, manufacturers of fertilizers,
pharmaceutical companies, plastics makers, and tons of other kinds of firms will be

Page | 47 3/2/2017
looking for just your expertise, and they'll pay you pretty handsomely for it. This
major makes for a wonderful stepping stone to both law and medicine.

Civil Engineering
Civil Engineering involves the design and construction of bridges, earthquake-
resistant high rise buildings in high seismic risk areas, eight-lane highways,
offshore oil platforms, transit systems, dams, airports, landfills, recycling plants - all
the colossal, one-of-a-kind structures that make modern civilization what it is. They
synchronize traffic lights, too.

If you major in Civil Engineering, you'll probably choose from one of many different
specialties in the field including transportation, structures, materials,
hydrosystems, geotechnical, environmental, and construction. When you graduate,
you shouldn't have a problem getting a job. As environmental concerns grow, and
as technological innovations continue at a breakneck pace, the demand for civil
engineers will rise. After all, somebody has to design, construct, and maintain the
infrastructure and the facilities that are essential to our civilization.

Computer Engineering
If you major in Computer Engineering, you'll learn all about the hardware and
software aspects of computer science. You'll gain a solid understanding of circuit
theory and electronic circuits, too. Also, because Computer Engineering is closely
linked with Electrical Engineering, the fields are found in the same department at
many universities. Consequently, many undergraduate programs incorporate most
of the core curricula in both electrical engineering and computer science so
graduates will be prepared to work in either field.

Computer Engineering is a difficult major but it's a major that's in demand.

Software engineering companies, telecommunications firms, designers of digital
hardware, and many other business enterprises hire Computer Engineering majors
right out of college and pay them well. Computer Engineering also makes great
preparation for medical school, business school, and law school (particularly if you
want to specialize in patent law).

Dietetics
Dietetics is a burgeoning professional field that combines practical skills and
research in food and health with education about food intake and food choices.
Think of Dietetics as the psychology of food. Sure, Dietetics majors study nutrition.
In fact, they study it quite a lot. But they also study people's attitudes, beliefs, and
behaviors toward food and eating habits. And what with swift innovations in
medical research - not to mention perpetually rising healthcare costs and consumer
demands - it's a field that has become increasingly complex.

Registered dietitians assess nutritional needs, treat dietary problems, and help
prevent diseases through counseling about sound dietary practices and fitness.
They also manage food service in health care and commercial settings. They are
educators, therapists, consultants, and managers who work in hospitals, cafeterias,
and large corporations.

Page | 48 3/2/2017
Any Dietetics program worth its salt is going to be accredited by the American
Dietetic Association. To become a registered dietitian, you've got to complete an
ADA-approved curriculum and pass the National Registered Dietitian Exam. Once
you do, you should find a solid and growing job market waiting for you.

Economics
Economics is the study of the production, distribution, and consumption of goods
and services. More broadly, Economics is the study of how individuals, businesses,
governments, and societies choose to spend their time and money, and otherwise
allocate their resources. Even more broadly, Economics is the study of choices.

When the federal government decides to allocate a certain part of national budget
to military spending and another part to funding for the arts, that decision and its
consequences is Economics. Similarly, when you decide to buy a CD instead of a
fancy new shirt (or watch Nick at Night instead of MTV, or take the bus instead of
your car) that's Economics, too.

Knowledge of Economics is an invaluable component of any liberal arts education,

not to mention an indispensable tool for making sense of the intricacies of the
modern world. It is also excellent preparation for a future in business, as well as for
graduate studies in law, public policy, and international studies.

Electrical Engineering
Electrical engineers design, develop, and test electrical equipment. They figure out
ways to generate and control electrical energy. Electrical engineers work with every
kind of device imaginable, from computers to clock radios to global positioning
devices. They also really know the difference between amperage (strength),
voltage (force), and wattage (power) of a current, and can toss off these terms and
others with ease.

A major in Electrical Engineering requires extensive work in math and science. You
can expect to take several classes in physics and calculus before moving into the
more detailed study of electrical systems.

Entrepreneurship
Entrepreneurship is a major dedicated to helping you become the next celebrity
CEO. Starting, running, and managing a company, whether its three employees or
a thousand, is a lot of hard work and requires someone with some serious business
skills.

As an Entrepreneurship major youll learn many of those business skills, including

accounting, economics, and management. Your course of study will take you
straight into the heart of the business world, preparing you for days of power
lunches and power ties and million-dollar bonuses.

Finance
Finance is a very professionally oriented major designed to prepare you for a career
in financial management, which is the art and science of managing money or, if
you like, the way people, institutions, markets, and countries generate and transfer
wealth. It's a good major and potentially a very lucrative one because, these days,
everybody - small businesses, monolithic corporations, charities, and governments
- needs effective financial management.

If you major in Finance, you'll study things like commercial and investment banking,
forecasting and budgeting, and asset and liability management. You'll learn more
than you may ever want to know about money, stocks and bonds, and how markets
function. You'll learn how to determine what fraction of a firm's assets (or your own
assets) to put into different kinds of investment vehicles in order to obtain the
highest return for a justifiable level of risk. When you graduate, all those baffling
indexes at the back of the Wall Street Journal will make sense to you.

Upon graduation, your career can take many paths (naturally), but most Finance
majors find jobs in the finance departments of firms; with banks, mutual funds, and
other kinds of financial institutions; or in government or some kind of charitable
organization. Some schools offer specialized areas of concentration within the
Finance major as well - in insurance and real estate for example.

Forensic Science

Forensic Science teaches us how to listen to the dead and to everything and
everyone in any way connected to a crime. It is the eyes and ears behind the dead
and the missing. It picks up where the crystal ball and the candles leave off, and
with a little molecular and biological testing, perhaps a pattern analysis or twoit
can reveal the past to us.

Forensic Science is aptly named because in order to uncover the missing links of
crimes, forensic scientists need a working knowledge of almost every science.
Theyre not just trying to figure out what happened, but also how, when, why, and
by whom. They are one part pathologist, one part dentist, one part psychologist,
one part chemist, one part anthropologist, and one part criminologist. They get to
show up at crime scenes in their own vans, and you can bet that when they speak,
everyone listens.

Genetics
Genetics is the science of heredity. In other words, its the study of which genes are
responsible for which physical traits in humans and other organisms. Genetics is
often broken down into more specialized areas of study. For example, Washington
State University divides Genetics into transmission genetics, molecular genetics,
and evolutionary genetics. As an undergraduate, youll most likely become well
versed in all of three of these fields.

As Genetics major, youre in a position to do a great deal of good, medically and

scientifically. Many Geneticists eventually choose to focus on molecular genetics,
which includes, among other things, cancer research. In this field, you would study

Page | 50 3/2/2017
how cell growth, reproduction, and mutation leads to cancer and how to stop (or
reverse) the process. You might eventually concentrate on human gene therapy, in
which youd study the possible treatments and cures for currently incurable
diseases like cystic fibrosis. You might also choose to become involved in genetic
engineering, which uses the fundamentals of Genetics to alter and improve plants,
animals, and other organisms.

Health Administration
If you major in Health Administration, you'll take courses in management, health
care administration, epidemiology, health law, and health finance and economics.
You'll learn how to manage the finances of huge organizations, how to deal with
personnel, and how to interpret and comply with the maze of laws that effect
health care providers, administrators, and organizations. It's a good bet that you'll
participate in an internship or some other kind of professional field experience as
well, so as to build your professional credentials.

Human Resources Management

The most important assets of any business are its employees. Employees who need
to be kept happy, trained, enthusiastic, efficient, and maybe even out of trouble. As
businesses grow, and as labor relationships grow increasingly complicated and
demanding, more and more companies are turning to human resource managers to
help them communicate with, reward, and enthuse their employees.

As a Human Resources Management major you will learn about business

administration, as well as gain an understanding of corporate and labor law,
planning, and psychology. It requires someone who has a clear knowledge of
business management and administration, as well as someone who knows how to
deal with people.

Industrial Engineering
Industrial Engineering challenges you to improve, design, manage, evaluate, and
test production systems. Youll be looking at the hows of the economy; this means
looking at how a product is made or a service is given, and your ultimate goal is to
improve the quality of those products and services.

Unlike other engineering majors, Industrial Engineering focuses on people. Youll

have classes in ergonomics and human factors and study how people are a part of
a production system, of course investigating how they can do work more efficiently,
or how a production system can be designed to better serve them.

Although Industrial Engineers originally only dealt with manufacturing, today they
have a wider range of options. Food, banking, health care, and commercial aviation
are only a few of the sectors that rely on Industrial Engineers to make them more
effectively deliver their wares. The skills of Industrial Engineers better countless
aspects of our society.

Mass Communications
Page | 51 3/2/2017
Mass Communication majors investigate the role mass media has played, and
continues to play, in American culture. They are analysts and historians, examining
everything from 19th Century Harpers political cartoons to the newest McDonalds
commercial. Given the enormous effect of the media on our daily lives, Mass
Communication majors seek out how and why they reflect our social values. They
also describe how public policy draws boundaries for Mass Communication, like the
near-prohibition of nudity on broadcast television.

Mass Communication majors are sometimes also located within a broader

communication major that more generally examines the ways in which information
is created and distributed, whether through a television commercial or a personal
e-mail.

International Business
International Business is an extension of a business program. Youll learn about
standard business practices, ethics, and economics, and youll generally focus on a
subset of the field such as accounting, finance, or marketing. A major in
International Business will lead you to use your business skills in a global context.
You might learn about business transactions between and within countries; the laws
and logistics of international trade; or investments made in foreign markets.

It goes without saying that knowledge of other cultures is crucial to being a

successful International Businessperson. Besides your studies in business, finance,
banking, and the like, you will also learn about new cultures and societies, strange
laws and perspectives. You might be required to become proficient in a foreign
languageeven if a language isnt required for your degree, it will certainly make
you a more appealing prospective employee. If youre successful mastering all this,
youve got a good shot at being admitted to the jetsetter crowd.

International Relations
Do you believe that societies and cultures are linked in such a way that changes
made in one society affect the rest of the world? If you do, International Relations
might be the major for you. With a major in International Relations, you'll study the
relationships among countries, governments, peoples, and organizations all around
the world. You'll learn about global issues from a variety of perspectives-issues
including war, poverty, disease, diplomacy, democracy, trade, economics, and
globalization. Though it is, of course, impossible to predict the future, by studying
how the past has influenced the present you'll be attempting to predict the
consequences of international decisions.

International Relations is a multi-disciplinary major that draws from politics, history,

economics, law, sociology, psychology, philosophy, ethics, and geography. As an
International Relations major, you'll be integrating many points of view in an effort
to work together for a better world. Topics of study might include the balance of
power, fair distribution of wealth, and the economic gap between rich and poor.
You'll be dealing with foreign cultures, languages, worldviews, and values. The
study of foreign languages is a necessity, as is a sense of empathy, compassion,
and good will.

Management / Business Administration
Management, according to Penn State University, involves the coordination of
human, material, and financial resources to accomplish organizational goals. A
major in business administration/management will provide that goalfocused
training. Youll get a thorough grounding in the theories and principles of
accounting, finance, marketing, economics, statistics, human resources functions,
and decision-making. Youll come away a whiz on how to budget, organize, plan,
hire, direct, control, and otherwise manage various organizations.

As a major in business administration/management, expect to work in small groups

no room for wallflowers here. Count on problem-solving, theorizing, and math-
heavy number-crunching, too. Youll have your choice of areas in which to
concentrate; many colleges and universities require you to focus on one, while
others allow you to sample several. Options might include operations management,
human resources management, and general management.

Journalism
Journalism is a hands-on, professionally oriented major that involves gathering,
interpreting, distilling, and reporting information to audiences through a variety of
media. Journalism majors learn about every conceivable kind of Journalism
(including magazine, newspaper, online journalism, photojournalism, broadcast
journalism, and public relations).

That's not all, though. In addition to specialized training in writing, editing, and
reporting, Journalism requires a working knowledge of history, culture, and current
events. You'll more than likely be required to take a broad range of courses that
runs the gamut from statistics to the hard sciences to economics to history. There
will also be a lot of lofty talk about professional ethics and civic responsibility as
well - and you can bet you'll be tested on it. To top it all off, you'll probably work on
the university newspaper or radio station, or perhaps complete an internship with a
magazine or a mass media conglomerate.

We know it goes without saying but you'll also have to write an awful lot of articles
if you decide to make Journalism your major. This is true even if you ultimately
want to work in radio or television. If you don't enjoy writing, you probably won't
like Journalism very much.

Management Information Systems

Companies and organizations depend on computerized information for almost
every aspect of their business. How is all this data organized? Enter the field of
management information systems. In this major, youll learn how to design
computer systems to help people and organizations function more effectively.

As you might expect, management information systems entails a whole slew of

computer courses, including languages and programming, information technology
and security, and systems planning and integration. A major in management
information systems will also provide a solid grounding in all aspects of business

Page | 53 3/2/2017
management, including human resources, business law, and contracting. Youll
learn how to analyze individual needs, as well as the larger economic and social
priorities of a company, so you can most effectively structure and organize its data.
Because youll frequently be planning and problem-solving in teams, its important
that you possess good communications skills and enjoy working with people as
well.

Marketing
Marketing is the study of how to determine consumer needs and translate those
needs into products and services and selling them locally, nationally, and globally.
It is a practical, career-oriented, and solidly pre-professional major that requires
analytical skills, logic and creativity.

If you decide to major in Marketing, you'll learn about the distribution of goods and
services, consumer behavior, pricing policies, channels of retail and wholesale
distribution, advertising, sales, research, and management. Other topics you are
likely to encounter include market segmentation and targeting, effective customer
service, new product development, and logistics.

Upon graduation, most Marketing majors usually find jobs in consulting, market
research, and advertising. If you want to work in the Marketing department,
though, you should expect to start in sales where you can really get to know a
company's products and its customers. In fact, starting in sales is frequently the
best (and sometimes the only) way to ultimately get one of those coveted (not to
mention high-paying, low stress) jobs in the Marketing department.

Mechanical Engineering
There are many fields in which Mechanical engineering plays a role: automated
manufacturing, environmental control, transportation, biomedical fields, computer
fields, fossil fuel and nuclear powerthe list goes on and on. Mechanical Engineers
are concerned with imagining and implementing programs and devices that
improve our world and our movement in it. A Mechanical Engineering majors
designing endeavors are diverse, from tiny measuring instruments to huge aircraft
carriers or power plants. They also are involved with testing, evaluating,
distributing, and marketing the devices they and their colleagues create.

If all of these challenges appeal to you, Mechanical Engineering might be a major to

consider. As with other engineering programs, your course of study may include
one or more semesters of a co-operative education program, in which you will be
employed full-time with an appropriate company. A co-operative is a great way to
put your knowledge to use, and often times your co-op job leads to post-graduation
employment.

Neuroscience
Neuroscience, according to Kenyon College, is the study of brain-behavior
relationships in order to understand the roles they play in regulating both animal
and human behavior. A relatively new field of study, Neuroscience combines the
fields of biology, psychology, chemistry, engineering, and others to come to a more
specific understanding of how brain structures influence behavior. As a
Neuroscience major, youll learn about the evolution of the brain, cellular
neuroscience, and genetics. Youll learn about consciousness and what affects it.
Youll learn about the nervous system, and what factors might enhance or destroy
it. Youll study various types of both normal and abnormal behavior. And then youll
put them together and see how the brain and nervous system are themselves
factors in why we act the way we do.

Much of your Neuroscience coursework will require research and laboratory work.
You might study the electrical activity of nerve cells, or evaluate the effects of
drugs on behavior; there are any number of directions your research may lead you.

You can apply your Neuroscience major to any number of fieldsmedicine,

research, and psychology are only a few of the options. Let your own vision and
passion for the brain lead you.

Nuclear Engineering

Nutrition
Nutrition, as a science, is concerned with the ways in which the food we eat affects
our physical well-being. Nutritionists are not only our fitness guides, reminding us
of how much or how little we should be eating. They're interested in helping us
understand the relationship between our diets and health.

A blend of several of the sciences, including chemistry, biology, and anatomy,

Nutrition involves identifying the nutrients that are necessary for growth and
sustaining life. Nutrition majors help determine the way nutrients interact with one
another, and precisely how much of any given nutrient is needed under various
environmental conditions.

Interlinked with the other sciences, nutrition majors fulfill all of the requirements of

Page | 55 3/2/2017
a pre-medicine program, providing a broad background in each of the disciplines
necessary to entering a career in health or medicine.

Petroleum Engineering
Petroleum engineers are the scientists behind the oil industry. Theyre the ones who
help determine where those big oil rigs should go, and where we should and should
not drill for more of that black gold, Texas tea. Using some of the most
sophisticated technology and complicated math, petroleum engineers also learn
how to determine the cost efficiency of any drilling project.

Psychology
Psychology is the study of the way humans and animals interact and respond to
their environment.

Psychologists try to discover why certain people react to certain aspects of society
and the world at large in a certain way, and from those reactions, they try to
deduce something about the biology of our brains and the way the environment
influences us.

If you major in Psychology, you'll look for the essence of why people are the way
they are, from their personality type to their sexual orientation. Within this broad
framework, Psychology majors focus on such features of the human mind as
learning, cognition, intelligence, motivation, emotion, perception, personality,
mental disorders, and the ways in which our individual preferences are inherited
from our parents or shaped by our environment.

With a strong background in research and the scientific method, a Psychology

major pursues a field of study that seeks to educate, communicate, and resolve
many of the problems surrounding human behavior.

Public Relations
Public relations specialists control how organizations and their products or services
are perceived by the publicand in turn, what image their paying clients (the
organizations) portray.

As a public relations major, youll learn about all the written, verbal, and visual
elements that go into effective public relations. Youll be prepped on how to write a
press release and how to handle media attention on your clients behalf. Your
studies may also include forays into publishing newsletters, designing effective
promotional ads, news writing, broadcast media, and videography. Once you have a

Page | 56 3/2/2017
grasp on these basics, youll learn how to use them effectively to drive sales for
your client and earn favor in the public eye. Knowing when to communicate what is
essential in public relations. Youll learn how to develop your information and
messages, and how to make sure that information is portrayed in the best possible
way to your targeted audience. The best PR pros will also know a little about event
planning, product launches, public speaking, and damage control.

Public relations is in many ways an interdisciplinary major, and youll study

elements from many other fields, including psychology, philosophy, languages,
business, art, and many others. Youll learn how to analyze public opinion and
various research studies in order to determine what the public relations needs are
for a certain organization. Problem solving and strategic planning abilities go a long
way in the field, so hone them now.

should take it?
A Yes, if a student completed less than 30 credit hours, the university would require to
submit their SAT 1 scores. Student will apply as freshman.
6 Q What if a student is undecided about his/her major? What do you do
to help students explore possible majors? How does the student select
subjects?
A For undecided students, it is good to select the core subjects first. As they progress,
theyll discover their strength and interest in a particular major.
7 Q Can my son take an additional subject as he is currently only enrolled for 4
courses in fact 3 ADP courses and another general requirement course?
A Yes, if the student can justify his academic capability and subject to approval by
Deputy Dean.
8 Q My daughter has been enrolled into a pre-business course and this course
credit is apparently not transferable, is it possible for her not to do the
course then and instead take a course that is transferable. It would save a
lot of time and money.
A It is important to do the preparatory courses before signing up for the transferable
courses as the student must score a minimum of C for a particular course to enable
the credit transfer. Therefore, these preparatory courses will enable the students to
obtain a transferable grade for the particular course. Adding on, most of the courses
are of higher level (degree courses) and they will need an intermediate platform to
equip themselves better.
9 Q Are exams or student performances moderated by American Universities?
A No, however we have internal moderation within the school.
10 Q Could my son enroll into the MATH 171 course as he has already done Add
Math in high school although he is a business major? He is very good in
Math.
A Yes, if the students Add Math grade is B and above
11 Q What is the minimum or maximum number of semesters a student should
take to complete the required number of courses here?
A Minimum 3-4 semesters and maximum 9 semesters.
12 Q Can a student opt not to do the science courses with labs if they are going
to major in mass communication?
A Liberal Arts SC and UP to answer
13 Q How many credits are necessary for transfer? Is anything close to 50
credits sufficient?
A The student need to complete minimum 45 credit to transfer to US
14 Q Now that the US currency is fluctuating, are there any scholarships on your
part or from your US counterparts?
A U. S. Universities do offered scholarships. Please check from
ADP website: http://taylorsadp.edu.my/ under the Scholarships.
15 Q Can they complete more than 60 credits and transfer the courses?
A Yes, the students can do more than 60 credits and transfer the courses, acceptance
of courses is still depends on the U. S. Universities
16 Q My daughter wants to major in digital animation. Is this possible through
ADP?
A Yes. Student will take the computer science subjects and transfer to the U.S. after
1.5 years.
17 Q What are some common challenges students faces with their courses
during their first semester at your program?
A Deputy Dean to answer
18 Q Can a student opt not to do the science courses with labs if they are going

Page | 77 3/2/2017
to major in mass communication?
A Liberal Arts SC and UP to answer
19 Q Could a student choose not to complete the general requirement subjects
such as TITAS, Malaysian Studies etc. as Malaysian students have already
studied the following in public schools and the US universities do not
require these subjects for transfer?
A No. The student still has to take Mata Pelajaran Umum modules even they had taken
in high school, foundation or diploma.
20 Q Will I be informed if my daughter has not been attending classes or
performing well etc.?
A Yes, school will send absenteeism letter in Week 4 and Week 7.
Parent can approach students Academic Advisor for performance report.
21 Q How does the continuous assessment system at your program work?
A Deputy Dean to answer
22 Q I was told during counseling that students can select the subjects of their
choice at ADP but my son said he is not able to change any of the subjects
he has been assigned to at present.
A Student can choose and plan their modules from 2 nd semester onwards. Semester 1
modules will be assigned to student as per module combination by major.
23 Q My sons school is very strict with their forecast results, hence he only
managed Bs in most subjects. We are sure he will obtain As when the SPM
results are released in the March. Will it be therefore possible for him to
be assigned to a higher level Math and English course?
A No. We will use the qualification that student submitted during enrolment.
24 Q Why are classes being conducted online when the fee structure is still
somewhat the same as other face to face classes?
A Deputy Dean to answer
25 Q Are there part-time job opportunities or internships available to the
students?
A Deputy Dean to answer
26 Q How does one figure out which courses would transfer to a particular
university?
A You may get a soft copy of equivalency table from our
ADP website: http://taylorsadp.edu.my/ under the List of U. S. Universities.
27 Q Who teaches most freshman classes? Full professors?
A Deputy Dean to answer
28 Q Can I work in America?
A Students are allowed to work on-campus about 20 hours per week and paid about
USD7.50 per hour.

event, Fright Night, in conjunction with Halloween. Besides that,
we hold fun-filled bazaars to provide a platform for students to
interact with one another and at the same time to raise funds as
well. The Grapevine provides students with a set of skills that every
mass communication student will need! We have many things
currently in the pipeline and we need members who are interested
in learning the details that go into the fabric of organizing an
event.
