t was a dream come true moment for Aman Bansal when he found

himself. Coming from a middle class family where his father is an
engineer and mother a homemaker, Amans passion to be a Soft-

Careers360: Congratulations for your outstanding
performance in JEE Advanced 2016! What was your
reaction upon knowing your rank?
Aman Bansal: Thank you! It came as a pleasant surprise
for me. I was not expecting Rank 1 despite having performed
well in the exam. I was hoping to be among the top 10 rank-
ers, but to be AIR 1 was beyond my expectations. It was like
a dream come true and currently I am living the moment to
the fullest!
Careers360: What is your score in JEE Advanced
2016? How was your performance in JEE Main?
Aman Bansal: I have scored 320 out of 372 in JEE
Advanced. In JEE Main, my score was 323 out of 360.
Careers360: Tell us something about your family. How
was support from your parents?
Aman Bansal: My family consists of my parents, grand-
mother and younger sister. My father is a government
employee and my mother is a homemaker. My sister studies
in Class VIII. All my family members were very supportive
and motivated me throughout the preparation period. Also,
there was no pressure from my parents, be it regarding study-
ing engineering or scoring any rank or marks. They have
always supported me irrespective of my performance.
Careers360: When and how did you decide to study
engineering? How did you start preparation?
Aman Bansal: I decided to pursue engineering after my
Class X board exams. My decision was influenced by my love
for Physics and Mathematics. Although my father is an Engi-
neer, there was no compulsion from my family to follow suit.

Right after my Class X exam, I joined coaching and diligently
followed the guidance of my mentors.
Careers360: What was your preparation strategy and
routine study period for JEE Advanced?
Aman Bansal: I had covered the syllabus during JEE
Main preparation itself. For JEE Advanced, I focused on
revision and reviewing my weaknesses. Along with revision,
I also devoted my time in solving test papers and taking mock
tests to brush up my exam taking skills and decided on the
final exam day strategy. On an average, I used to spend 7 to
8 hours for studying. Some days I even stretched the study
hours for 9 to 10 hours in case of special assignments or class
or mock test preparation. Before 2 weeks to JEE Advanced,
I reduced the number of hours on studying and spent 1 to 2
hours daily to keep myself de-stressed and refreshed for the
actual exam day.
Careers360: Which subject was the easiest and which
was the toughest according to you in the JEE Advanced?
How did you find the difficulty level of the exam?
Aman Bansal: For me, the easiest sections to attempt
were Physics and Mathematics since these are also my
favourite subjects. Chemistry was my weak area. The overall
difficulty level of the exam for me was moderate to tough.
Careers360: Now that you are the topper of JEE
Advanced, what do you think was the key factor behind
your spectacular performance in the exam?
Aman Bansal: I would say my mentors and peers were the
biggest factors behind my success. My mentors and guides
at my coaching institute helped me immensely right from

clarifying the concepts to providing the right study materi-
als, test papers, analyzing my mistakes and suggesting ways
of rectifying those errors and improving my performance.
Secondly, my classmates gave me the idea of the competition
I have. With regular interaction with fellow JEE aspirants I
learnt various nuances of preparation, tips and tricks. I also
went for group studies with them which were immensely
helpful.
Careers360: Do you think coaching is necessary to
crack JEE Advanced exam?
Aman Bansal: For me, it was very necessary as without
the right guidance aspirants are mostly clueless about the
right preparation strategy. They may not get through the
right study materials and mock tests. Even if one opts to solve
the test papers himself, getting them checked by mentors and
following their feedback is very important.
Careers360: It was quite a busy preparation schedule
for you. Could you find time to connect with your friends
during your preparation?
Aman Bansal: Yes of course, I took out some time from
my study schedule to catch up with my friends. Since most
of my friends were from my school and coaching institute, I
did not have to give much effort to keep in touch with them.
I even went out for a couple of outings with them to relax my
mind. However, I made sure that I do not waste much time
or strain myself during the process.

Careers360: Are you active on Facebook or any other
social media platform? Did you turn to any recreational
activity before appearing for JEE Advanced exam?
Aman Bansal: I was active on Facebook and few other
social media platforms as member of JEE Main and
Advanced preparation groups and communities. I did not
spend my time on chatting or other non-constructive activi-
ties in social media.
I love sports and played badminton regularly. Even before
my exams, I used to play ocassionally to refresh myself. I am
also very fond of playing indoor games. I believe that some
recreational activity is definitely required as no one can study
constantly without break.
Careers360: Please share your message for JEE aspir-
ants who will be appearing for the entrance exam next
year.
Aman Bansal: Regular studies are very important. Utilize
your time properly. While studying, underline and highlight
the important parts. Discuss with your peers and faculty
members to explore various problem solving techniques.

Careers360: Congratulations for your achievement in
JEE Advanced 2016! How did you celebrate?
Bhavesh Dhingra: Thank you. I celebrated with my
parents and family members. Later I joined my friends and
mentors at my coaching institute for sharing my success with
them.
Careers360: Were you confident about bagging the top
2 position?
Bhavesh Dhingra: Initially I was not confident about
being among the top 3. Later when I analyzed my perfor-
mance and tallied my chosen answer options with the answer
keys, my confidence started building up about getting a high
score and rank.
Careers360: Please share your subject wise and overall
score in JEE Advanced 2016. How was your performance
in JEE Main?
Bhavesh Dhingra: I have scored 312 out of 372 in JEE
Advanced. In Physics my score is 118, 100 in Chemistry and
94 in Mathematics. I have scored 285 in JEE Main.
Careers360: Who all are there in your family? How
supportive were they during your preparation phase?
Bhavesh Dhingra: My parents and two elder sisters com-
prise my family. My father is a retired bank manager and my
mother is a homemaker. My elder sisters are also engineers.
The support and motivation they have provided me is beyond
my expression. They have provided me best possible facilities
in terms of education and taken care of my comfort through-
out. They also motivated me and boosted my confidence
whenever I felt low.

Careers360: Why did you decide to pursue higher
education in engineering? How did you start with the
preparation?
Bhavesh Dhingra: I was fascinated about computers
since my childhood and I had decided to be a Computer
Science Engineer. I started preparing seriously from Class
XI. I had joined coaching and started preparation by gaining
conceptual clarity on the subjects.
Careers360: What was your preparation strategy for
JEE?
Bhavesh Dhingra: My strategy included clarifying con-
cepts and then practicing. I focused more on learning the
concepts first before taking up practice or solving test papers
as it would not have been fruitful. I did not follow any fixed
routine and my day to day study timings and pattern was
quite flexible. On an average I studied for 6 hours in a day.
On other days, when I felt the need to stretch, I studied for
around 8 hours.
Careers360: Tell us about your areas of strength and
weaknesses.
Bhavesh Dhingra: Physics is my favourite subject. I find
Maths and Chemistry tough. There were areas of strengths
and weaknesses in each subject but I worked hard on the weak
areas and practiced every possible question types from the
strong areas to make them even stronger.
Careers360: What was your coaching institutes role
in your success? Do you think it would be possible for a
meritorious student to crack a competitive test like JEE
without coaching?

behind my success. They have provided me the right support
in terms of study and practice materials, constant perfor-
mance analysis and motivation throughout. I think the guid-
ance and exposure the coaching institute mentors provide is
very crucial for ones improvement.
Careers360: You have had quite a hectic preparation
phase so far. Did you get much time to be in touch with
your friends or participate in social media activities?
Bhavesh Dhingra: Yes indeed, I could manage to spare
some time to spend with my friends. I love sports and played
table tennis, cricket and badminton with my friends regularly,
apart from discussing about studies in school and coaching
classes.
I was less active in Facebook and more on WhatsApp. I
used to interact with my classmates in WhatsApp groups on
JEE preparation.

Careers360: What are your hobbies? How often could
you pursue them?
Bhavesh Dhingra: Apart from sports, my hobbies include
listening to music. I listened to music every day to relax my
mind. There is no fixed genre and it depends on my mood. I
also enjoy watching movies. The latest movie I watched was
Captain America: Civil War.
Careers360: What is your message for the JEE aspir-
ants appearing for the exam next year?
Bhavesh Dhingra: My message for the aspirants would
be to not stress themselves by studying for long hours. Even
if you are studying for a short duration, ensure that you give
your 100%. Prioritize on clarifying your concepts first before
practicing as unless you know the theory well, practice wont
be of much help.

KUNAL GOYAL, JEE ADVANCED 2016 ( AIR 3 ); DONT LET COM-

unal Goyal, AIR 3 in JEE Advanced was utterly surprised to find
out his rank as he had expected his rank to be in hundreds. He
wishes to stay in India to work for the betterment of the education
system. Along with his teachers and mentors, Kunal gives due
credit to his fellow batch mates with whom he had group study sessions.
Despite the stress and competition, Kunal had maintained composure by
playing his favourite sport, basketball and regular exercise. His advice to all
JEE aspirants is to never take competition douse their spirit and run after
ranks. Rather he suggests them to focus on the preparation.

Careers360: Congratulations on being among the top
3. Indeed it is a joyous moment for you and your family.
Were you expecting this feat?
Kunal Goyal: Thank you so much! To be frank, this was
absolutely unexpected for me. I had expected my rank to be
within 100 but this was unbelievable! The feeling is yet to
sink in. The celebrations at my home and among friends and
teachers were massive. I was flooded with congratulatory
calls and messages. I am enjoying every bit of it!
Careers360: What are your overall and subject-wise
scores for JEE Advanced? What about JEE Main?
Kunal Goyal: My total score in JEE Advanced is 310. Out
of the 124 marks per subject, I scored 105 each in Physics
and Chemistry and 100 in Mathematics. My score in JEE
Main was 290.
Careers360: What about your family members? How
did they support and motivate you throughout your JEE
success journey?
Kunal Goyal: I belong to a small close knit family con-
sisting my parents and elder sister. My father is an engineer.
My mother is a homemaker and my sister is pursuing higher
studies. They have been very supportive throughout. All my
family members were confident about my success and never
created any unnecessary pressure on me.
Careers360: Why did you decide to pursue Engineer-
ing?
Kunal Goyal: After my Class X board exam, I was a bit
confused between Medicine and Engineering. Since I loved
Physics and Mathematics, I decided to go for Engineering. I
started preparing from Class XI.

Careers360: What was your study plan? Did you
change the preparation strategy for JEE Advanced after
JEE Main was over?
Kunal Goyal: I used to study for 5 to 6 hours every day.
I did not follow any specific routine and took up the subject
according to my inclination or whichever required improve-
ment. The initial phase consisted of completing the syllabus
and after that it was more of practice.
I did change the preparation strategy post JEE Main
paper. For JEE Advanced, I focused more on practice. I
solved test papers from past years and timed my test accord-
ing to the actual test timing. Along with the accuracy, I
also concentrated on time management. My mentors from
coaching institutes helped me with analyzing the papers and
suggested areas and methods of improvement.
Careers360: How helpful was your coaching institute?
Kunal Goyal: Of course coaching was immensely help-
ful for me. Not only my mentors, who helped me with their
guidance and study material and strategy development, my
peers and classmates there were equally helpful. After our
classroom sessions with the mentors, we followed a separate
group study session with our classmates, which also included
the fellow toppers like Aman (AIR 1) and Gaurav (AIR 9).
We helped each other by clarifying doubts, sharing multiple
problem-solving techniques for a question and had Q & A
sessions on separate subjects and topics. I would say it was a
collective effort which led us to success.
Careers360: Among the core subjects of Physics,
Chemistry and Maths, which subject was easiest and
toughest for you? How did you tackle the subjects in JEE
Advanced paper?
Kunal Goyal: Maths is my favourite subject followed by

Physics. Chemistry is the toughest subject among the three.
On the day of the exam, I kept calm and did not worry about
the toughness level. As per the difficulty level was concerned,
I found Physics on the tougher side than Mathematics.
Chemistry questions were of moderate difficulty level.
Careers360: Apart from regular studies, which other
activities did you engage yourself in?
Kunal Goyal: Along with studies, it was very important to
keep your nerves calm. Hence I exercised every day and also
played basketball and went for swimming. Regular physical
exercise soothed my mind from the exam stress. I also enjoy
watching movies but have not been able to watch one since
long time. The last one I saw was Bajrangi Bhaijaan.
Careers360: What about social media websites like
Facebook, WhatsApp etc.? Did you refrain yourself from
using them?
Kunal Goyal: I utilized WhatsApp to the fullest by being
a part from the group from my coaching institute, with my

fellow JEE candidates. We were very active on the group.
As I had mentioned before, we used to solve questions in the
group, suggest several methods of solving a problem and dis-
covering the shortest method, cleared doubts etc. I also got

only. Comparatively, I was not active in Facebook.
Careers360: What is your advice for the engineering
aspirants appearing for JEE next year?
Kunal Goyal: Rather than concentrating on competition
and running after rank, focus on preparation. Study regularly
and take help from your teachers and friends. Do not stress

boy Jeevitheish Duggani, who bagged All India Rank 4 in JEE Advanced 2016. A
son of an engineer father, Jeevithiesh cracked JEE Advanced in his first attempt,
which he believes is the result of his dedicated efforts and positive frame of mind.

The topper, who loves to watch Hollywood flicks, credits his parents for having inspired and
supported him to crack what is known to be the toughest undergraduate engineering entrance
test in the country. My parents are my ultimate source of inspiration and pillars of strength.
They supported me a lot and told me not to take much pressure about results, he says.

Jeevithiesh Duggani: I have scored 300 out of 372. In
JEE Main, my score was 295 out of a total of 360.
Careers360: Tell us something about your family. How
did your parents support you?
Jeevitheish Duggani: My dad is an engineer and my
mother a home maker. My parents are my ultimate source of
inspiration and pillars of strength. My mother morally sup-
ported me a lot and asked not to take much pressure about
results. She says that our hard work always yield positive

Careers360: What was your preparation strategy and
routine study period for JEE Mains and Advanced?
Jeevitheish Duggani: As my strong part is Physics;
therefore, after completing my basic syllabus, I spent more
time on Chemistry and mathematics. I first categorised
topics into time-consuming and less time-consuming and
studied accordingly. I had divided my time subject wise; and
this helped me in balancing my overall preparations. Also, I
kept taking mock tests and full-length practice tests to check
my preparation level. This way I kept myself motivated and

completed the milestones that I had set for preparations. I
applied the same preparation strategy during JEE Main and
JEE Advanced.
Careers360: Apart from JEE, did you appear for other
entrance tests?
Jeevitheish Duggani: Yes,I did. I appeared for both TS
EAMCET and AP EAMCET 2016 where I scored AIR 35
and 78, respectively.
Careers360: How would you de-stress your self during
your preparation?
Jeevitheish Duggani: I used to watch Hollywood mov-
ies as I really enjoy watching them. Since I was staying in
hostel, I used to call my parents and chat to them on a regular
basis. My mother used to read this to me- Yatha hyekena
chakrena na rathasya gatir bhavet, evam purusha karena vina
daivam na sidhyati(As a chariot cant move with one wheel,
similarly, without hard work destiny doesnt bring fruit). This
helped me whenever I was in stress or felt low-spirited and
dejected.
Careers360: Please share your message for JEE aspir-
ants who will be appearing for the entrance exam next
year.
Jeevitheish Duggani: Remember one thing - your prep-
aration is incomplete without revision. Unless you revise
what you study, you will always be one step short to suc-
cess. The time which we spend for studies must be utilised
smartly. Put in your 100 % efforts and success will follow

achievement with my parents and then I went to my academy
where a huge 10-kg cake was cut to celebrate my success

2016.

all score in JEE Advanced 2016. How was your perfor-
mance in JEE Main?
Saiteja Talluri: I have scored a total of 296 marks. My
sectional scores are Mathematics 108, Physics 86 and
Chemistry- 102. I am All India Rank 1 in JEE Main 2016
with a total of 345 marks out of 360.
Careers360: Apart from JEE, which other engineer-
ing entrance exams did you appear for?
Saiteja Talluri: I took TS EACMET 2016 and AP EAM-
CET 2016. I secured AIR 1 in TS EAMCET and scored 160
out of 160 marks in the exam. My rank in AP EAMCET was
7.
Careers360: What was your preparation strategy for
JEE?
Saiteja Talluri: For JEE Mains, I referred to NCERT
books; and for JEE Advanced, I prepared with different
books for each subject including book authored by H.C
Verma for Physics. Besides, I followed preparation material
provided by my coaching institute.

Careers360: Tell us something about your family?
How did your family support you all this while?
Saiteja Talluri: My Father Chalapathi Rao Talluri is civil
contractor and my mother Jaya Lakshmi Talluri is home
maker. They supported and motivated me all along my
preparation journey. My father would bring me all possible
study material as per my requirements. Every day, for 2 years,
he would drop me at my academy where my classes would
begin as early as 6.00 am. Also, he would pick me up after my
class hours at around 10.30 pm.
Careers360: Did an AIR 1 in JEE Main build any
performance pressure on you for next stage i.e. JEE
Advanced. And did you put in extra efforts for JEE
Advanced?
Saiteja Talluri: For me the toughest part was to crack JEE
Mains as there was only 4 days of gap between JEE Mains
exam and Board examinations. But unlike JEE Main exam,
I had full one- month time to prepare for JEE Advanced. It
also boosted my confidence level. Thus, I was little relaxed
this time. For me, the one-month time was enough to prepare
myself for JEE Advanced as I had already prepared for it
during my long-term preparation plan in last one year.
Careers360: So, how was your performance in your
Class XII Board examinations?
Saiteja Talluri: I got 986 marks out of 1000 in my State
Board examination.
Careers360: During your preparation phase, how did
you deal with stress and what was your stress buster?
Saiteja Talluri: As we had long class hours beginning
from 6.00 am to 10.30 pm, in our academy, we were given

an hour long break every 4 hours. I would utilize this break
to fullest and play table tennis inside our academy itself. My
greatest stress buster was playing cricket with my friends.
Actually, we used to get break for a day after every 15 days,
which we would utilize in outdoor games and I always used
to go for cricket.
Careers360: Are you active on social media plat-
forms? How did you keep in touch with your friends?
Saiteja Talluri: I am pretty active on Facebook and I like
to socialize with my friends on the social networking site. I
also used to watch movies with my friends whenever we had
free time.
Careers360: During your final preparation days, India
was gaga over IPL matches. Did you take time out for
watching IPL matches? Who is your favorite cricketer?
Saiteja Talluri: Yes, I watched all of IPL matches as I am
really crazy about cricket. I used to schedule my studies in

such a manner that the IPL match would coincide with my
study breaks. I actually didnt miss any IPL match. I am a
big fan of cricketer Virat Kohli. I never went to stadiums to
watch matches but I followed each IPL match on Television.
Careers360: What role do coaching institutes play for
students preparing for JEE? Do you think it is necessary
to join a coaching institute for preparation?
Saiteja Talluri: In my view, students can prepare them-
selves with self-studies but coaching institutes are important
as they help you identify right preparation material and help
shape your approach towards preparation. Your mentors
help you a lot in clearing doubts and applying specific tricks
for different type of questions.
