Book Report
Lesson Content Description:
Students will be read a Dr. Seuss book. The teacher will then
demonstrate to students, how to complete a book report. Students
will then read books independently and complete their own book
report.

Instructional Strategies/Method of Delivery:


Students will be read a Dr. Seuss book, the class will then discuss the book.
Teacher will then demonstrate how to complete a book report to the class. Students will be
asked questions regarding the book read.
Students will then use the books brought from home or will pick out a Dr. Seuss book to read
and complete a book report.
Common Core Standard:
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.1.7
Use illustrations and details in a story to describe its characters, setting, or events.
ELD Standard:
5. Listening actively
Demonstrate active listening to read- alouds and oral presentations by asking and answering
yes-no and what questions with oral sentence frames and substantial prompting and support.
Common Core Lesson Objective:
Students will be able to write a successful book report including, title, author, a sentence about
their book and an illustration related to their book.
Assessment:
Formative: T. will ask students comprehension questions after reading the book and while
completing the book report.
Summative: T. will be looking over students book reports to ensure they have correct
information.
Lesson/Assessment Modifications:
EL- Student can read a book with a partner, or they will be given a book within their reading
level.
Technology: Describe the types of technology you will be utilizing in your lesson to create
and enhance instruction
T. will be using document projector to model how to complete the book report and to show
students where they can find the title and author.

Students should be familiar with concepts about print.
Students will need to be able to write sentences effectively.

LESSON PRESENTATION

T. will explain that students will be celebrating Dr. Seuss birthday by reading his books.
T. will read to students And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street.
T. will discuss the book with students by asking comprehension questions.

THROUGH

Step-by-Step Modeling/Presentation of the Objective

T. will show students the worksheet they will be completing and model how to complete the
worksheet.
Using the book, T. will ask students Where can I find the title? Where can I find the
author?
T. will then ask a student to give an example of a sentence from the book and will write it
down for students to see.
T. will explain that students will be reading a Dr. Seuss book of their own choice. They will
then fill out their book report according to the information.
T. will ask students to give a thumbs up or down to see whether they know what they should
be doing and clarify any questions.
T. will pass out supplies.

BEYOND

Independent Practice/Summative Assessment of Each Students Performance


Students will read Dr. Seuss books at their desks independently.
Then using the information with their book, will complete their book report.
