In less than two weeks West Australians will vote for their new parliament. Since its inception
our group had remained a non-political group and we will encourage our readers to decide for
themselves to decide based on the policies that will make West Australia a great place to live in.
It is perhaps right time to acknowledge the current members of the parliament who have been
of tremendous support to us as a group and community. The current Liberal government has
been very supportive of events that facilitate harmony and integration of Muslim communities.
We were lucky to be part of the group that was brought together to brainstorm and come up
with projects that are of significance to us like Eid and many projects have been funded through
Office of Multicultural Interests including Open mosque days, Eid Festivals etc. We were part of
the event in 2015 to celebrate Eid ul Azha in the City of Perth. We were also part of a number of
consultations.
Andrea Mitchell who had the portfolio of Mental Health is the member from Kingsley where our
group is locally registered and has kept close and regular contact with us. Similarly Liz Behjet has
been a great supporter of our group. On the other hand Alannah MacTiernan is one of the first
few people who extended her support to the group and it was during her tenure as the mayor of
city of Vincent to have Eid in the Park event. Lastly, Margaret Quirk has no doubt provided her
support whenever we needed and at many times addressed our concerns promptly. Thanks to all
of you including Ms. Rebecca Ball, Executive Director of Office of Multicultural Interests.
We have just received invitation for a Muslim Community Forum hosted at Thornlie Community
Centre on Saturday 4th March, 2017 at 12.30 pm. The forum will be an avenue to interact with
two Labor candidates Chris Tellentire (Thornlie) and Terry Healy (Southern River) will attend.
