Indexes: CARDINAL DIPOLE ANTENNA.

These are the technical specifications to buil

d and test the antenna we have called "AN-DI-CAR": CARDINAL DIPOLE ANTENNA, whic
h was designed specifically for DX Tropical Bands: 120, 90, 75 and 60 meters, bu
t is also effective in the medium wave (MW) and Shortwave (SW) in general. This
antenna has the following characteristics: 1) 2) 3) 4) 5) is a directional anten
na that has 4 elements (dipoles), each of which is directed toward the cardinal
points: North (N), South (S ), East (E) and West (W). Is calculated to make comb
inations of antenna elements with different tropical bands. According to the ava
ilability of the experimenter can build for: ½, ¼, or 1 / 8 wave, depending on
available space and therefore its budget. It can be installed horizontally or i
n inverted "V" (45th), according to the available area for construction. Prefera
bly you can place a central mast, and the smaller masts 4 corners if you want to
build it with the angle. At the foot of the central mast placing a copper bar t
o panic and make good ground contact.
This antenna is designed only for reception. Do not forget to put insulators on
each end of the dipoles. And an insulator must be placed in the center of the ma
st or tower that isolates the antenna system of local noise or interference. Not
e: do not know if this antenna can be used to transmit on amateur radio bands.

Formulas used in the spreadsheet: 1) Average frequency (Fp) = High Frequency Lim
it - Lower Limit Frequency / 2 Fp = Ls - Li = 2600-2300 = 2450 kHz. February 2
2) Total length (Lt) = 300,000 / Fp = 300.000/2450 Khz. = 122.44 meters. 3) 1 /
2 wave = Lt / 2 = 122.44 meters / 2 = 61.2 meters.
4) 1 / 4 wave = Lt / 4 = 122.44 meters / 4 = 30.61 meters. 5) 1 / 8 wave = Lt /
8 = 122.44 meters / 8 = 15.31 meters.
EXAMPLE: Assume: 1) 2) That we chose to build the antenna index of 1 / 8 Wave as
total length, for reasons of space and cost. (See chart spreadsheet). We choose
the tropical bands of 120 and 60 meters. We then, two crossed dipoles. A first
dipole band was 15 120 meters, 31 meters in total length is 7.66 meters from the
central axis to the end of the dipole. The other dipole would be for the band o
f 60 meters and will have a total length of 7.65 meters, that is 3.83 meters fro
m the central axis to the end of the dipole (the insulation). We address the ele
ments of the dipole for 60 meters north-south, and the dipole for 120 meters eas
t-west. From each of the cardinal points (N, S, E, W), come a drop cable to an a
ntenna switch or swichera to make combinations (see graph no. 2). That is, the a
ntenna will come Andic four (4) drop cable. Preferably suggest installing a cont
inuous cable, from insulator (located at the end of the respective cardinal poin
t) to the antenna swich, and try not to make any cut or tie the cord. You can no
t use cable. 12 which has two solid strands and do not necessarily have to remov
e the plastic liner when it is widespread in the dipoles. A fifth cable that com
es directly from the earth that we place on the central base of the tower or mas
t. This cable can be no. 10 and is connected to the chassis and radiorecptor swi
chera if you bring the respective connection. The swichera must be located near
the short wave radio receiver so that you can make combinations easier. This is
just swichera a damper / lighter with 4 inputs or contacts that we use in our ho
mes for the inner light, it comes with a metal box and that's where we will conn
ect the ground wire. In the inner part of the swichera, placed by a

RESULTS OF FIELD. So far we have constructed two sets of antennas. One located i
n a rural area of Barinas State at the foot of the Andean Cordillera, with a mas
t of 12 meters long and 1 / 8 wave length. The other was installed in the extrem
e northwest of the island of Margarita in the Caribbean Sea, with the same speci
fications. Here are our findings when making DX using indexes:
1)
We have noticed a substantial improvement in the reception conditions in the tro
pical bands, reaching to grasp even at 1:00 pm on Radio Quito, La Voz de la Capi
tal from Ecuador in 4920 Khz., With a SINPO 35 333, with 5 to 7 decibels (dB) ga
in!. Besides raising Brazil's 49-meter band as Radio Rio Mar of Manaus in 6160 k
Hz with 10 kW in parallel with 9695 kHz with 7.5 kW. Another example was at 14:0
0 UTC at 10:00 am local time, when we grasp the Voice of Upano from Ecuador in 5
965 KHz with acceptable signal. As you will note, we can get stations from neigh
boring countries in the daytime is impossible to hear due to the spread and the
low frequencies they use. But we have also noticed a substantial improvement in
the medium wave (MW 540-1700 kHz). Issuers of other states of Venezuela, Colombi
a and areas bordering the Caribbean Islands, are recorded on the dial of the rec
eiver!. Bahamas Local Radio sound in Margarita Island is one example. 1.630/Red
Radio 92 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, with good signal at night and early in Bari
nas. With African broadcasters have also noticed an improvement. The band of 90
meters has been "closed" for a long time, has opened for us and even at 21:00 UT
C on May 27 last we heard some radio broadcast there. The radio receivers we use
d are: A Yaesu FRG7 (analog) that has given us excellent results, it is not a ra
dio station and allows us to make adjustments. Too bad it's not digital!. Anothe
r radio is a Sony ICF-2001d (digital) that has produced acceptable results, and
the advantage is it has a frequency synchronous detector. The other receiver is
a Kenwood TS440S transceiver which has also given us great abstractions, such as
the last transmission of Radio St Helena in the month of October on 11092.5 kHz
(which although not often in Banda Tropical ) which tune with 5-7 dB gain at 21
:30 UTC when they sent a special greeting to the members of the Friendship Club
Diexistas who were listening. When we swichera combinations in both antennas as
cardinal points, do not feel the change abruptly. But if you disconnect and reco
nnect the Andic normal dipole antenna can see the difference in decibels or sign
al strength. In other words are not directional as we supposed, but we start fro
m the principle that any dipole antenna receives the signal in the opposite dire
ction to the cardinal points to which it is addressed. For example: If we have t
he indexes in East-West, will receive the signals coming from the North and Sout
h with greater intensity. Hence we seek to be directive when using the combinati
on swichera. Finally, we are interested in hearing your insights, criticisms and
suggestions, but mostly they have built the Diexistas Andic. It is important to
send us their insights to improve this idea we've had since 1984 which is only
in 1999

when we decided to build it. We are not experts in radio but experimenters but t
he build and know that it works. From there we want to make it known to the worl
d, this is our contribution for a hobby that we consider free and home.
