Time Motivation and Introduction:
s

1. To begin the lesson, the teacher will show small clips of a smoking
5 mins
advertisement that is aimed at helping people quit smoking. These Smart board
advertisements will show how effective certain tools can be used to
make an advertisement more effective. YouTube clips already
opened
2. The video links:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SfAxUpeVhCg

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f6Hz7pbmse8

3. Once the clip has been shown the teacher is to ask students
5 mins questions about what they saw and noticed while watching the clip.

What did you notice about the colouring of the

advertisements?
What did you notice about the music or tone of the
advertisement (if this is applicable)?
Did you notice anything about the people who were involved in
the advertisement?

1 min 4. After the students have watched the clip and answered some
questions, they are then to log onto the class Web Quest lesson 4
which is called Why not make an advertisement.

5. http://year6healthsmoking.weebly.com/

Lesson Steps (Lesson content, structure, strategies & Key Questions):

5 min 6. The teacher asks the students to individually and quietly read the
lesson objectives for the lesson, which are placed at the top of the
Web Quest page.

Gather information, clips and audio for their advertisement

Create and edit their final advertisement.
Work effectively and cooperatively within their groups

7. To ensure that the teacher knows that everyone understands the

lesson task, they ask either one or a few students to repeat the lesson
objectives out to the class.

8. Students are then to ensure that they are in their groups and begin
work on their final copy of their advertisement.
5 mins
9. Task number 1- requires students to watch videos and tutorials that
iPads or laptop
have been linked to the lesson page. These videos and tutorials show
YouTube links
students how to create their advertisements on their chosen tool.
10 mins
10. Task number 2- Students are to start creating their advertisements.
Students who need to film clips for their iMovie or garage band can
iPad camera or app
complete their work in a given space that still allows them to be
supervised by the teacher.

Students who are filming have 5-10mins to gather their film

clips. It should not take too long because the final
advertisement only has to be 2 minutes and they have also
planned out each shot the lesson before.

Students who are filming a rap or song have 5-10mins to

gather their film clips.

Students who are completing posters are to type up their

information on a word document and also find copyright free
pictures that they will include on their poster before they
actually put them on their final copy poster. This allows
10 mins students to check for any errors in their typing.

11. Task number 3- Students who are creating an iMovie or music clip
are to begin editing and placing the clips together to produce their iMovie
final movie/song. Students who have chosen posters are to complete
their final product ensuring that detail has gone into the slogans,
colours, pictures, information provided and links available for extra
help.

12. For students who have finished early they are to go back to previous
lessons and make sure that they have completed all the other tasks.

5 mins Lesson Closure:(Review lesson objectives with students)

13. You may leave when:

At the very least students must have imported all their clips,
information etc onto their chosen ICT tool.
This means that students will have filmed all the scenes
necessary for their movie or song and have gathered all the
information for their poster, power point etc

Transition: (What needs to happen prior to the next lesson?)

14. Students are to save all their work, log out of all websites and return
iPads to the front of the class.

15. Once all iPads have been returned students are to wait quietly before
they get dismissed for recess.

Assessment: (Were the lesson objectives met? How will these be judged?)
Students will be assessed through their final product that gets
produced.
The final product assesses:
Whether students can effectively work their chosen ICT tool
The students knowledge on smoking- which has been taught over a
variety of weeks
How students produce their final product- which includes colours,
tone, pictures, text etc
