"It is not our abilities that show who we really are, are our choices." - Harry
Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
A better world starts within us We all want to live a better, more peaceful, fra
ternal and ecological. The problem is that people always expect the best start i
n another world. For example, prefer to wait for a neighbor or friend invite to
plant a tree or start a garbage collection rather than take the initiative. Ther
e are people who find it easier to be complaining that no one help but wonder if
they are not doing their part to protect the planet. One thing is certain, to c
onvince others to change their habits, we need to modify our first, is not it? I
f we want to preserve a planet, truth is not enough just to fight polluters and
plunderers. We must also strive to change our consumerist values, habits and beh
aviors that cause pollution, predatory attitudes to animals, plants and the envi
ronment. But that alone is not enough, because there is no consistency in who lo
ves animals and plants, but exploits, humiliates, discrimination, hate his fello
w man. Therefore, we must also become environmentally correct in our actions, we
strive to be also more fraternal, democratic, just and peaceful with our fellow
s. Moreover, it is important not just wait for individual perfection - because i
t is unattainable. The fact that acquire environmentally conscious does not make
us perfect nor more democratic, yet we must act. The important thing is that we
have the commitment to be better every day, always trying to overcome us. A Chi
nese sage Confucius named said there are about 5000 years, what if someone wante
d to change the world, would have to start by itself, because changing yourself,
your home would change. Changing your home, the street would change. Changing t
he street, the neighborhood would change. Changing the neighborhood would change
the city and so on, until changing the world. The Ten Commandments's Friend Pla

1. Just Throw Garbage in the Right Place garbage anywhere we play back to our ho
me by rats, flies, mosquitoes that carry diseases, and become a place where we l
ive ugly and unpleasant. Each person produces each day about a pound of garbage.
Multiply that by the population of your city to get an idea of the size of the
problem. It costs much tax money to clean the streets, plazas, beaches, giving t
he final destination for garbage. Money that could be being used for other works
and services to improve the city. The city, school, house cleaner who is not th
e most sweeping, it is the least dirty! A Friend of the planet just throw your t
rash in the appropriate places, or in his pocket and brings it to put in the tra
sh or recycling of their own home. 2. Save Water and Energy Water does not leave
the wall. She comes from rivers and springs that are being attacked by pollutio
n and deforestation, which makes drinkable water becoming less available, and ra
ises their cost of treatment. The energy does not come out of the wall. Need to
be generated is drowning rivers and fertile land, displace, or use non-renewable
resources like oil and coal or create risk and hazardous waste as nuclear 3. Do
not Waste Pick consume necessary. Resist the hype that forces us to change cars
, clothes, possessions. Besides spending money unnecessarily, wasting natural re
sources, pollute the planet. Say no to unnecessary or products made to last long
, or they spend too much energy or water, or contaminate the environment, or dis
posable containers which do not return to manufacturers. Choose to use cloth bag
s and boxes for their purchases. Avoid plastic bags. Choose foods and natural pr
oducts and avoid industrialized 4. Treat the Animals and Plants
The animals - as well as plants ("The Secret Life of Plants") - feel pain, have
emotions, they suffer. They have as much right to life, liberty, well-being as w
e are. Be responsible with animals and plants under its responsibility. Do not l
et suffer unnecessarily, take care to have water, food, comfort. Refuse to have
fun in rodeos and circuses with the pain and suffering of animals. Refuse and fo
od products that do not respect the pain and suffering of animals. Lend your voi
ce to plants and animals that suffer because they have no way to defend himself.
5. Care of Trees Help to protect the existing trees and forests. Report attacks
. Plant new trees and treat them with kindness and respect.€Refuse to buy wood
and furniture that does not prove the origin ecologically correct and legal. Use
both sides of the sheet of paper. Make selective collection in your home and su
bmit the paper for recycling. 6. It does not pollute Use the smallest possible c
ar, programming its outputs. It causes air pollution, spent fuel exacerbates the
greenhouse effect, bottles transit. Get used to listen to music without signifi
cantly increasing the volume. Causing loud noise. Review your behavior, your att
itudes at home, work, community and change whatever is causing pollution or envi
ronmental degradation. Do not expect someone to come do it for you. Do it yourse
lf. 7. Garbage collection garbage there. What we call junk is the raw material a
nd natural resources blended and out of place. Recycling returns these resources
to manufacture new products taking less of nature, and save more water and ener
gy, and increase the life of landfills. Keep two bowls in your kitchen, one for
the dry material (inorganic: paper, plastic, metal, glass) and another for MATER
IAL 'WET' (organic: food scraps, fruit peels etc).. Collect dry material in a co
ntainer larger and regularly refer to recycling. If there is no garbage collecti
on selective in their community forward a petition to the authorities. Meanwhile
, look who donate their material to make recycling material 'wet' may serve to t
urn manure and animal feed. Grow a vegetable garden even in pots and boxes and m
ake a composting however small, in a box. 8. Know and coexist with nature Keep t
he contact with nature. Take walks in the forest, bathe in the waterfall, go to
the beach, gaze at the by-the-sun, the moon. Place your feet on the ground. Grow
a garden, a garden. Study and read more about nature, even if not a task of the
school. The more you know, the better you can act on their behalf. Look in the
dictionary words such as occupational health, recycling, reuse, habitat, etc. bi
odegradable. Make a scrapbook with pictures of animals and plants. 9. Nature doe
s not vote and are not advocates. Do you for it! Even alone you can report envir
onmental aggression. Write to the authorities, the SAC Service - Customer Servic
e companies, authorities, politicians, the press. Participate in campaigns throu
gh the Internet or in person. At the time of voting, choose representatives comm
itted to the environmental cause and follow the mandate. Write to him with sugge
stions and criticism to improve performance in environmental protection. Partici
pate in volunteer activities and some civil society organization nonprofit in yo
ur community. 10. Create a club of friends of the planet at school, or associati
on! The school or neighborhood association can provide students and citizens can
act in an organized manner, taking at least ONE MONTH FOR CONCRETE ACTION TO IM
PROVE ENVIRONMENTAL COMMUNITY how to plant and care for new trees, make collecti
ons of seeds and produce new seedlings denounce environmental assaults, help dep
loy the garbage collection at school, etc.. Take a COOPERATIVE PLANNING involvin
g everyone to learn of the situation, propose substitutions of materials and beh
aviors, establish quantitative targets and time periods to promote the desired c
hanges. More info: http://www.portaldomeioambiente.org.br/ClubedeAmigosdoPlaneta
