ABSTRACT - Walk and drive cycle is a totally innovative way of moving. With the electric help it takes no more effort
to walk then a walk in the playground. The electric aid in combination with the sprocket is boosting your walking
speed up to the speed of the regular cycle.
When you are walking on the walk and drive cycle, you push the belt backward with your feet. The movement of the belt
gives the motion to the pulley of the alternator which will charge the battery. The motor now rotatethe axle tomove the
wheel. Using wiper motor rpmgetting isless. The walk and drive cycle has a well-built and unbiased base. If there is
little gravel on the road it will just travel along a regular bike. The rubber belt of the treadmill has anti slip structure
which will prevent you from descendingof bike.
We aspired to construct a vehicle that is faster than on foot and easier to be carried than a bicycle.

I. INTRODUCTION

Exercise are advised for health promotion, and prophylaxis for many cardiovascular diseases and also for
rehabilitation after an episode of disease. Among the exercises aerobic exercises are appropriate for these purposes.
The global elderly population is on the rise. In industrialized countries, 15% of the population is 65 years old or
older. This number is expected to rise to 25% by 2025 [Barratt]. As this age group grows, new industries form to
address their specific needs. One of these is the need to stay active and healthy.
The increase in average life expectancy has led to an increased interest in staying healthy despite age-related
inconveniences. Although fewer people are experiencing major age-related inconveniences as they grow older, due
to medical advances, some of the more minor effects of age are still very common. In motor driven treadmill
exercise which is similarly to walking or jogging or running depending upon the speed of the treadmill motor is
becoming more familiar to all. Thus we made an innovation to take that treadmill in playground. This is nothing but
having a walk in aplayground.
The electric bicycle (e-bicycle) market varies greatly by product type and regional demand. The placement of
electric motors for e-bicycles is also receiving increased consideration. E-bicycle can have motors in one of three
locations: the front wheel hub, mid-mounted at the bottom bracket (pedals), or therear wheel hub. The rear wheel
hub is the most popular location, and most of the large Chinese market is utilizing rear hub motors. Rear
wheel hubs are thought to be best for throttle-controlled bikes, whereas the other locations work well with e-
bicycles that only provide electric power when the pedals are being used (pedal abidance). The mid-mount
motor is the fastest growing segment, in part due to strong competitors.

A. ProblemStatement

For travelling over short distances user often use a commercial vehicle which causes pollution and
unnecessary wastage of fuel.
While working out in gym user use treadmill for jogging and running. The main disadvantage of this
treadmill is, it is stationary at particular place so sometimes user get bored by jogging at same place without
any exposure to natural atmosphere.
In manual treadmill the motion of the treadmill is rough to overcome this we use a motor to rotate the rotors.
Batteries which are widely used in automobile sector is not rechargeable thus when they disposed create
pollution.
To improve all above phenomenon we take proposal by designing something which would help to decrease
these harmfulphenomenons.

B. Objectives

Atmospheric Pollutioncontrol.
Useful for exercise and healthpurpose.
To decrease the use of non-renewable energysources.

C. Scope
What makes the walk and drive cycle with electric aid awesome? It has the same fat-burning benefits of a regular
treadmill, but lets you exercise outdoors or even in way the work. Based on study, men burn 126 calorie running
roughly a mile on a treadmill, and 83 while walking. Women, on the other hand, burn 107 and 77 respectively.
It allows you to stay physically energetic while travelling at the same time. You can practically exercise at any time
of the day. If you drive out often, you get to exercise just as often. You are basically killing two animals with one
stone when you ride the walk and drive cycle. It features a rugged design and all terrain tires that let you leisurely
walk down rough roads or run through evergreen forests. If you want to explore roads less travelled, you can do so
using the walk and drive cycle with electric aid.
It lets you jog or take a walk without getting your shoes dirty or modified. Because of its hard wearing belt that
offers grip, you dont need to worry about slipping or falling off the treadmill.
It has an uneven resistance feature that caters to user of all ages that are fit and balanced enough to ride walk and
drive cycle with electric aid. But even if you are not that active, you can start with the walk and drive cycle. It
comes with a switch that immediately shuts off the motor and starts it. It has safety features that you would not
normally find on a regular bike.

II. CONCEPT OF WALK AND DRIVE CYCLE

Figure shows the model of walk and drive cycle. For the movement of the walk and drive cycle sprockets
mechanism is provided. Walk and drive cycle is a combination of treadmill and cycle. Treadmill belt is fixed with
frames which consist of two supportive rollers at extreme ends for movement of the belt. On the extreme last roller
sprocket isfitted.

Fig Concept of walk and drive cycle

Sprocket fitted on rear roller is attached to the smaller size sprocket in between shaft fitted in the bearing clamp to
the frame. At the end of the shaft mild steel pulley is welded on the shaft and the V belt is rotating around the
alternator pulley and thus charging the battery. Motor drive the axle and carries the load of a user by means of
battery placed at the carriage on top portion of rear wheel.

III. COMPONENTS OF WALK AND DRIVE CYCLE

Main components of Walk and drive cycle are:

Treadmillbelt.
Motor.
Four wheeler battery.

TreadmillBelt

Treadmill belt comes in one-ply and two-ply options. One-ply tread belts are basically the inexpensive option,
needing standby over time whereas two-ply tread belts are denser and last much longer. Some tread belts come with
moderating and impact concentration which is highly recommended for your joints and comfort level. User with
muscles or joint problems or heavy users are advised to choose for a more cushioned running surface. Tread belts
having harder surface may be used but cushioned ports are highly recommended. This is an important feature as it will
help to make impact less shaking to your joints. Many treadmills can cushion up to 26% of the impact, with 15-18%
being theaverage.

Motor

Fig. Viper Motor

While many users just compare the rpm of the motor, actually look at the torque of motor in addition to the rpm. Basic
treadmill motor are available with 2.5hp (horsepower) and 1440 rpm. It is not suitable for driving on roads due to
traffic issues. Also it will leads to accidents so for the walk and drives cycle we use a viper motor with 0.3 hp and 30
rpm. Viper motor can be used for moving forward as well as moving backward. With this much of speed the cycle can
be drive easily.

Four WheelerBattery

Fig. 12v car battery

Four wheeler batteries typically come in 12V and 24V batteries. The electric bike manufactures specification specify
the walk and drive cycle needs because they provide a good power to cost ratio.

IV. MATERIALSELECTION

The materials used in this project are detailed as follows:

Ply wood.
Mild steel
Nylon rubberfabric.
Properties of Ply wood;
As we have use only two rollers for the movement of the belt over the rollers the plywood guides the belt .it is easily
available

Properties of Mild Steel:
M.S. has carbon content from 0.16% to 0.29%. They are easily wieldable thus can be hardened only. They are similar to
wrought in properties .They can be easily gas welded or electric arc welded. With increase in the carbon percentage weld
ability decreases. Both ultimate tensile and compressive strength of these steel increases with increasing carbon content.

Properties of Nylon Rubber Fabric:

Standard material available for treadmill belt is nylon fabric. So we use this material for treadmill belt. Nylon rubber
fabric is cheap and easily available, less in cost & having property of wear resistance. It is having more grip to run the
treadmill smoothly.

V. DESIGNPROCEDURE

In our attempt to design a walk and drive cycle, we have adopted a very careful approach. Total design work has
been divided into two parts mainly,
SystemDesign.
MechanicalDesign.
System design mainly concern with the various physical concern and ergonomics, space requirements, arrangement
of various components on the main frame of treadmill, arrangement of treadmill belt and rollers, position of braking
system, arrangement of motor, sprockets, ease of maintenance, scope of further improvements, ground clearance etc.
In mechanical design, the components are categorized into two parts.
DesignParts
Parts to bepurchased.
For design parts, detailed design is done and dimensions thus obtained from design data book. This simplifies the
assembly as well as post manufactureexamining work. The various acceptances on work pieces are specified in the
manufacturing drawing. The process sheets are prepared and passed on to the manufacturing drawing. The process
sheets are prepared and pass on to the engineering stage. The parts are to be purchased directly are specified and
selected from standard list.

VI. DESIGN OF MAIN FRAMECOMPONENTS

A. Treadmill Framedesign
Material- Mild Steel.
As the standard available treadmill belt size is (980*340) mm. Frame design is done according to the tread belt size.
As per space availability and clearance for reduction of friction, frame size is (1270*500) mm. Frame consists of a
two rollers, in which first and last roller is for movement of belt. Rollers are fitted in frame by means of bush.
B. Design of Front and RearRoller
Width of the frame is 120 mm. So we choose length of rollers as 90 mm. To decrease the friction of belt with frame
15 mm clearance is provided on both sides. Front roller is of diameter 50mm and that of rear one have diameter
50mm. Rollers are connected to frame by using MS rod of diameter 10 mm. PVC bush are placed in front roller and
deep groove ball bearing 6000, which is use for light weight operation is used. Rear roller is directly welded to 10mm
MS rod.
VII. ACCESSORIESATTACHED

VIII. FUTUREIMROVEMENTS

Walk and drive cycle has some advantages and some disadvantages. The main disadvantage of walk and drive cycle
is its discharging battery. Due sudden discharge of battery in between of travelling leads to face many problems to
overcome this disadvantage we can do some improvements in present model.
To overcome this discharge problem we can install a solar panel to the system it will recharge the battery and
continuous movement of walk and drive cycle can be possible. Solar panel is one of the simplest ways to charge the
battery.
Another way is generation of electricity by using dynamo generator. The mechanical energy generated by human
due to walking on tread belt is converted to electrical energy by using dynamo generator. It will produce
asmallamountofenergy.Smallincrementofenergyinrechargeablebatterywillmovethebikecontinuously.

IX. CONCLUSION

We developed a branch and bound approach which is coupled with quick, effective bounds to optimize the Walk
and drive cycle which serves the purpose of exercise and travelling and also decrease the use of non- renewable
energy resources.
The design of control architecture was an important aspect of study because a strong interaction between the many
different parts was needed. We know that the Walk and drive cycle cannot be used on roads due to some
drawbacks. But we will correct the drawbacks in the cycle & will be used on road. So we are satisfied with our
project.
