1. Evaluation Skills:
5 Different Circuit Designs:
a) Closed Circuit - Has a
complete path for the current
to flow
b) Open Circuit- Doesnt have a
complete path for the current
to flow leaving it unable to
function
c) Short Circuit- Is a low-
resistance path that bypasses
part of a current
d) Series Circuit- Only has one
path for the current to flow
through
e) Parallel- Has two or more
paths for the current to flow
through
Range Of Different House
Ideas:

a) Split the room in half using

a piece of cardboard
b) Split the room in half using
a small box

2. Design Skills:
Series Circuit:

Advantages Disadvantag
es
If one device
Can add more
fails, whole
devices
circuit fails
More
components
Easy to use
means more
resistance
Small chance
of overheating
Not expensive
Parallel Circuit:

Disadvantag
Advantages
es
If one device
Voltage is
fails the
split between
circuit is still
the circuit
operational
Voltage stays
constant even if
Low
more devices
resistance
are added to the
circuit

Explanation of My Design:

I will be making a series

circuit. Series circuits are
effective as they are easy to
use,very cheap and will not
take up a lot of space in my
shoebox. I will split the house
into two rooms, they cell of
the circuit will be located in
Room 1 and they switch will
be located in Room 2. The
lights in my circuit will be
multi-colored LED lights
( christmas lights) The only
problem with my series circuit
is that if one of my lights
break the whole circuit will
malfunction.
How to put my system
together:

Step 1: Find a regular sized shoe

box.

Step 2: Add a hydraulics system to

the shoe box.

Step 3: Use a rectangular piece of

cardboard to split the shoe box
into two rooms.

Step 4: Tape your circuits battery

in Room 1, make sure its firmly
placed and still operational.
Step 5: Loop your lights on the
room of your shoe box, make sure
there are lights in Room 1 and
Room 2.

Step 6: Flip the switch on the

circuit and viola!
Budget and Costs:

Syringes: 2 x R10 = R20

Lights: 1 x R100= R100
Tubing: 1 x R6,99= R6,99
Shoe box: Free= R0
Tape: 1 x R14,99= R14,99

Overall costs= R141,98

I actually thought I would
spend about R200 as the
christmas lights are really
good quality. The syringes
cost more than expected and
obviously the shoe box was
free.
3. Specifications and
Constraints:
Design Specifications:

Materia Width Length Height

Device:
l: cm cm cm
Shoe Cardbo
35 25 13
box ard
Polyprop
Tape 1 10 0,1
ene
Syringe Plastic 1 8 0,7
Lights Glass 0,3 0,25 0,3

Design Constraints:
a) Cannot use any big devices
as I have limited space in my
shoe box.
b) Cannot use cheap tape as
the circuit is heavy
c) If my hydraulic system
leaks it will ruin my shoe box
as it is made of cardboard
d) Cardboard partition is
fragile
e) Shoebox struggles to open
with hydraulics because of
the weight of the circuit.
