RESEARCH PROJECT: AUTHOR RESEARCH GUIDE

DESCRIPTION:
Research and prepare a study guide on an author we have read in class. C hoose an author you would like to examine more
in-depth.

ORGANIZATION & CONTENT:


The study guide will include the following components:

COVER PAGE

SECTION I: THE AUTHOR

A. Short Biography
B. Influences
C. Themes
D. Works (list most important and well-known)

SECTION II: REPRESENTATIVE WORK

Choose one story (if you choose a short-story writer) or choose three poems (if you choose a poet) that we have not read
in class and provide the following:

A. Plot Summary
B. Characters (brief summaries for each)
C. Elements (discuss four elements with direct references from the work)
D. Themes (discuss each theme with direct references from the work)
E. Cultural and Historical Contexts

SECTION III: SOURCES

Works Cited (MLA format)

Create a PowerPoint or Prezi presentation that introduces the author in a multimedia format.

FORMAT:

Numbered pages
Double-spaced
Font: Times New Roman, 12 point
1-inch margins

GUIDELINES:

No Wikipedia articles should be used as sources


Refrain from general Internet sources (Google search can lead to non-academic sources)
Gather your sources from academic sources (examine: Miami Dade College Literature Databases)
Avoid plagiarism by citing your sources (quoting, paraphrasing, and summarizing)
