Q.1. Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions given below it
City children suffer from a great disability. They have little contact with nature. They do not
know the joys of living in the open air. In cities, there is no space to live. So one storey is piled upon
another. "Their lives are so artificial that they don't enjoy the benefit of seeing the stars at night. They
buy flower pots and put paper flowers or plastic flowers in them. They hang pictures of sun-rise or
sun-set on the walls. Wherever one turns, one finds artificial lights during the day as well as in the
night. They have lost even darkness of night which is given' to man for peace and quiet thought. So
the task before education is to change the whole system of values that are current in our cities.

Helen Keller lost her eye-sight and hearing at the age of two because of an illness. She
became deaf. She also lost the ability to speak for we learn to speak by imitating what we hear.
At first, it seemed impossible that she would ever understand others or be understoodyby them.
Hers was thus a lonely world. But she was helped by a wonderful teacher named Miss Sullivan
who had herself been blind as a child but recovered her eye-sight by jan operation. Miss
Sullivan volunteered to help Helen also taught her to speak, read and write, Helen, later, went
to a University and gained a degree. She then spent the rest of her life working to help the blind
and the deaf.

Language is a wonderful gift given to man. No animal possesses this gift; but they have
their own way or expressing themselves. "When a rabbit sees an enemy, it runs away into its hole
or burrows. Its tail bobs up and down as it runs. The other rabbits see it and they too run away.
They know that there is a danger. When a Cobra is anrgy, it raises its hord, and makes itself look
fierce. This warns other animal. When a bee has found some food, it goes back to the hive. It
cannot tell the other bees where the food is by speaking to them; but it does a kind of dance in
the air. Some animals things by making sounds. A dog barks when strangers come near.

Q.4. Read the following passage carefully and do as instructed in (a) and (b) below
the passage:
Early rising leads to health and happiness. The man who rises late, can have little rest in
the course of the day. Anyone who lies in bed late is compelled to work till a late hour in the
evening. He has to go without the morning exercise which is so necessary for his health. In spite
of all his efforts, his work will not produce as good results as that of the early riser. The reason for
this is that he can't take advantage of the refreshing hours in the morning. Some people say that
the quiet hour of midnight is the best time for working. Several great writers say that they can
write best only when they burn the midnight oil Yet, it is true that few men have a clear brain at
midnight when the body needs rest and sleep. Those who work at that time soon ruin their health.
Bad health rnust. in the long run, have a bad effect on the quality of their work.

Ans. Trees are the true and priceless gift of nature. The trees provide us oxygen and timber.
They are very useful for us in each and every field of life. The dense forests are cause to rain. They
balance the atmosphere and gives us so many useful products. We should plant the trees. We should
not cut them. To cut the forests imbalanced the nature. We should be friend to the forests. They bring
development in the economic field of the whole nation. The plantation is necessary for us we should

Ans. WONDERS OF SCIENCE
Introduction- We live in a wonderful age. It is the age of discoveries and inventions. It is the
age of experiments and exploiting. It is the age of science. Science has become a great friend to
mankind. A lot of inventions have taken place. They have made our lives comfortable and
interesting.
Science and Man Science serves us in our daily life. The wonders of science have made
our lives easy and comfortable. They are helping us at every stage. We cannot do without them.
Science has covered almost all the fields of human life. Every moment useful invention is taking
place. Science has done a lot to serve the people.
Some Wonders of Science Electricity is a great wonder of Science. It lights our houses
and runs our factories. It makes fans and refrigerators running. It keeps radio and televisions
working. Science has given us wonderful means of recreation.
Radio is such a wonder of modern science. We hear songs and news on it. We get world-wide
information on it. A lot of educational programmes take place on it. They provide social education
and entertainment. Television and Cinema do impart education and educate our people.
Medical Aids Science has also helped us to fight against diseases, Penicillin, X-Ray and
other antibiotics are the wonders of Medical Science. They help doctors to diagnose the diseases
and check their growth. They help to cure the disease which were considered incurable.
Means of Travelling Science has shortened distance. Cars, Aeroplanes, ships rail and
other modern means of travelling are the wonders of technological science. They have helped us to
improve international relations.
Conclusion Thus we see that science is a power. It has changed our lives. We are very
much thankful to it.

Introduction India is a great country. It is a country of great men and women. It is the land of
great heroes and saints. Gandhiji was a great man. He was the greatest leader of his time. He was the
greatest son of mother India.
His Birth He was born in 1869. His fathers name was Karamchand Gandhi. Putlibai was his
mother. He came of a noble family. His parents were religious minded. The name of his wife was
Kasturba Gandhi.
His Life He was a simple man. He was kind by nature. He lived simple life. He lived like a poor
man. He always spoke the truth. He never told a lie. He never did anything wrong. He always did the
right thing. He always did his duty.
His works He fought for Indias freedom. He made India free. He gave us National Flag. He
did much for his country and country men. He loved the Harijans and the poor. He did much for them.
He loved all his country men. He was a great freedom fighter. He gave us the doctorine of Ahinsa.
Conclusion Gandhiji was really a great man. He lived and died for his country and countrymen.
He worked for them. We loved him and called him Bapu. We called him the Father of the nation. He
was shot dead on 30th January, 1948. He is no more but his name will never die. He was favourite
leader. We are proud of him.
AN INDIAN FESTIVAL
(DIWALI : THE FESTIVAL OF LIGHT)
Introduction India is a great country. It is the country of great men and women. It is the land
of many religions and festivals. There are four great festivals. Diwali is one of them. It is an important
festival of Hindus.
When Celebrated It is among the four great festivals of Hindus. It is celebrated in the month
of Kartika. It is celebrated in the memory of Ramas victory over Ravana. He returned to Ayodhya on
this day. Different people celebrate it for different reasons.
Preparations Diwali is the festival of joy and pleasure. People celebrate it with joy. They clean
and whitewash their houses. They paint and decorate their shops and houses. There are different ways
of decorating them. Villagers clean and decorate their dwellings well.
Ladies are very busy on this festival. They prepare sweets and other dishes for distribution.
They welcome the guests. They sew new clothes for their children. They do everything to make this
festival joyful.
The Celebration People light earthen lamps at the night of Amavasya. They worship Goddess
Laxmi then. They burn the crakers. Children are very happy on this festival. They get new clothes to
wear and crakers to burn. They are full of cheers and happiness.
Conclusion Diwali is a festival of light. Some people gamble this night. Gambling is a bad
practice. It is social evil, It must be disrooted. I like the festival most. It is my favourite national festival.
I celebrate it with great joy.
