Cargo Ship Safety Equipment Certificate

- valid for five years


- subject to and initial and renewal survey
- an annual survey within 3 months of anniversary date
- an intermediate survey within 3 months of 2nd or 3rd annual survey
- Initial survey:
o Complete inspection of FFE, LSA, nav equipment, pilot embarkation equipment, fire control
plans, nautical publications and charts, lights, shapes, sound signals and distress signals.
MO25 and SOLAS V.
- renewal and periodical surveys to include inspection of above equipment to ensure it complies with
requirements
- annual surveys to include general inspection to ensure gear is maintained and is satisfactory for use
- Periodical and annual surveys to be endorsed

Cargo Ship Safety Radio Certificate

- valid for five years


- subject to initial and renewal survey
- annual survey within 3 months of anniversary date
- Initial survey:
o Complete inspection of radio installation including those in survival craft to ensure they comply
with regulations. MO27 and SOLAS IV.
- renewal and annual surveys to ensure equipment complies with regulations
- annual surveys to be endorsed

Cargo Ship Safety Construction Certificate

- valid for five years


- subject to an initial survey including inspection of ships bottom before floating
- subject to renewal survey

- an intermediate survey within 3 months of 2 or 3 annual survey
- an annual survey within 3 months of anniversary date
- a minimum of 2 inspections of outside of ships hull every five years not more than 36 months
between any two inspections.
- Initial survey:
o Complete inspection of structure, machinery and equipment: to ensure that arrangements,
materials, scantlings and workmanship of the structure, boilers and other pressure vessels,
main and auxiliary machinery, steering gear and control systems, electrical installations and
other equipment comply with regulations and are in a fit and serviceable condition and that
appropriate stability information is provided. MO12 gives effect to SOLAS II-1 & 2
- renewal survey to include inspection of above equipment to ensure it complies with regulations
- intermediate survey is an inspection of above equipment to ensure they remain satisfactory for service
- annual survey to ensure that above equipment is maintained in serviceable condition.
- Inspection of outside of ships hull and survey of related items to be such that they remain satisfactory
for the service they were intended to be conducted twice in 5yr period, generally every 2.5yrs
although not more than 3yrs apart for ships with drydock cycle of 5yrs intermediate inspection may
be by underwater survey proved that it is possible to determine accurately all areas of ships hull.

ISM Document of Compliance Certificate

- valid for five years

Intial inspection ensures satisfactory safety management system detailing companys policys with regard
to safety of life, property and the marine environment, and ability to implement those systems onboard the
types of ships the company is running. Ensure communication procedures, lines of authority, contingency
planning and emergency response procedures are capable and followed and ensure that practices are/will
be held. Ensure appropriate training of ships staff in duties and requirements of SMS and plan for effective
implementation. System of document control. System of internal/external reviews of management system
for identification of shortfalls and an ability to improve management of safety systems through reviews and
follow up of non-conformities and other incidents. Company to have designated person ashore with direct
line of communication to highest level of management. Person to be responsible for safety operations and
pollution prevention and for ensuring that ship staff are afforded the full support of company resources
whenever necessary. MO58 and SOLAS XI

ISM Safety Management Certificate

Initial: ensure effective implementation of safety management system on board vl. Master to motivate crew in
adherence to requirements of SMS through effective, clear communication, training, verification that system is
adhered to and through internal reviews of systems and operations on board and the reporting of deficiencies
found to the company.

SMS to have safety and environmental policy, instructions and guidelines to ensure safe operation of ship and
protection of environment and adherence to all laws and regulations, defined levels of authority and communication
between ship and shore side staff, procedures for reporting incidents and non conformities, procedures to respond
to and emergency situations and procedures for internal audits, procedure for document control, development of
checklists to ensure safe operation of ship and its equipment, identification of risks and potential emergencies and
training in overcoming these, following of regulations, laws and instructions for maintenance and a means of
ensuring personnel appropriately qualified.

Loadline Certificate

- valid for five years

Compared to standard ship. Condition of assignment of freeboard: Information to be supplied to Master (Stability
and Stress Data), Superstructure end bulkheads, Doors, Position of hatchways, doorways and ventilators,
Hatchway covers (watertight steel), hatchway coamings and means of securing, Machinery Space Openings, Other
openings in freeboard and superstructure decks, ventilators, airpipes, cargo ports, scuppers, inlets and discharges,
side scuttles, freeing ports, protection of the crew (strength of accommodation, guardrails or bulwarks, lifelines,
underdeck passage way, deck cargo).

Type A Ship liquid cargoes in bulk (cargo tanks have small openings closed by watertight gasketted covers of
steel and equivalent material) Ships therefore have minimum freeboard.

Type B Ship all other ships

Corrections made to basic freeboard: Flush Deck Correction, Block Coefficient Correction, Depth Correction,
Superstructure Corrections, Sheer Corrections. Corrections applied to freeboard

Initial: check plans and details of general arrangement, freeboard decks and structures, scupper and overboard
discharges, openings in freeboard deck, guardrails, lifelines and under deck pipe passages for crew access,
stability and stress information (load computer) and that appropriate loadlines have been marked.

Annual: Check that no major structural alterations have been made and that condition of openings, vents, scuppers,
overboard discharges, guardrails and lifelines are being maintained. Check that load computer tests have been
conducted and are correct.

IOPP Certificate

- valid for five years


- subject to initial survey
- subject to renewal survey
- subject to intermediate survey
- subject to annual survey
Initial: Check vl is fitted with ODME & ODFE (with alarm and auto shut off), sludge and holding tanks, check oil
record book, SOPEP manual and overboard discharge emergency shut down. Check stability requirements and
check that vl has appropriate P&I Club Insurance Certificate.
Intermediate: Confirm vl complies with requirements and that equipment and manuals maintained in good working
order.
Annual: Confirm that equipment is being maintained in good working order.

May only discharge oily water from bilge space if: noted in Oil Record Book, >12nm from nearest land, oil content
<15ppm, & ODME & ODFE in operation and designed to automatically cut off discharge if oil content >15ppm and
vl not in special area: Med Sea, Black Sea, Baltic Sea, Red Sea, Gulfs Area, Gulf of Aden, Antarctica, NW
European Waters.

International Certificate of Fitness for the Carriage of liquefied Gasses in Bulk

- Valid for five years


- Subject to initial survey
- Renewal survey
- Intermediate survey (six months before or after)
- Annual Survey within 3 months of anniversary date
- Certificate to be endorsed for all surveys

All parts of the ship not covered by CSSC, CSSE & CSSR in relation to IGC Code checked for compliance.

Initial: Confirm that ship complies with IGC Code.


Intermediate: Confirm that ship construction, fittings, machinery and operations still comply with code and that they
are properly maintained.
Annual: Check that ship is maintained in compliance of IGC Code.
