BEYOND-THE-BASIC PRODUCTIVITY TOOLS

Name: Jean Seyfried

Grade Level: 3rd Grade
Content Area: Life Science
Beyond-the-Basic Productivity Tool Used: Glogster- http://edu.glogster.com/?ref=com

Standards Addressed: S2L1. Students will investigate the life cycles of different living organisms.
a. Determine the sequence of the life cycle of common animals in your area: a mammal such as a cat
or dog or classroom pet, a bird such as a chicken, an amphibian such as a frog, and an insect such as a
butterfly.
Blooms Level of Critical Thinking:

Description of how to implement in the class:
In order to introduce this lesson activity, I would model some the Life Cycle of a Frog using the BBPT
software Glogster. Next using the same Glog I will have the students help me add information onto it
together. I would then have the students get in pairs and pick out other life cycles of animals they
would like to showcase on a Glog. Students will research and look for information, pictures, and
videos together online in their group on computers using assigned national geographic and
kidsbiology sites. The students will then put their information into their own Glog organism life cycle.

After they have created their Glogs, the students will show them to me and I will have them edit as
needed. I would then have the students get up in front of the classroom and showcase and explain
their Glog. The students will be asked to write a short summary over an organism lifecycle other than
the one their group picked out using the other students Glogs. The students summaries and Glogs
will be posted on the classroom blog allowing for the students regular discussion over weekly
learning with their parents.
Level of Technology Implementation (LoTi): The LoTi level used here would be Integration 4
which is student-centered. The student Glogs will be posted on Glogster for users to use if needed.
The teacher would be learning information from the students created Glogs they picked out.
Description of the sample BBPT file provided *: The Glog you see above is provided as an example
of what the students and I will model in the classroom. The students will use online templets
provided to create their own Glog about an organism lifecycle.
Other comments about your proposed BBPT Activity: The BBPT tool is Glogster is a great
interactive way for students to visually get involved in an activity. There are many different
templates and already created Glogs for students to use.
