OBEROI

The training programmes offered by The Oberoi group are

Systematic Training and Education Programme (STEP)

STEP (Systematic Training and Education Programme) is a three-year programme for students who are
between 18 to 20 years of age and have completed or are about to complete Class XII.

STEP offers comprehensive on the job training in

Kitchen Operations
OR
Hotel Operations (Front Office / Food and Beverage Service focus and Housekeeping focus) at select
hotels of The Oberoi Group.

Alongside training, STEP also facilitates education through a correspondence Bachelor's Degree in Tourism
Studies from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). A student of STEP is provided assistance in the
form of a dedicated study day once a week, IGNOU fees, reference books and an additional three weeks
leave to enable you to take the IGNOU exams. The student is also offered a monthly stipend,
accommodation, meals on duty, uniform and medical insurance. The students progress is reviewed at
regular intervals by means of written and practical assessments. Appraisals are conducted to support the
development of appropriate attitudes and behaviours. A transcript of achievement is issued at the end of
each year.

Upon completion of STEP including the undergraduate studies from IGNOU, a student has the opportunity of
a future career with The Oberoi Group. The student can be offered a job as an Operations Assistant at any of
select hotels of The Oberoi Group by applying through Oberoi Central Employment Register (OCER). This
career opportunity is subject to the students performance during the programme and availability of a
suitable vacancy.

OCER is a database of candidates who are selected to work as Operations Assistants in The Oberoi Group
during an annual recruitment process

Alternately, the student may seek entry into the two-year post graduate management training programme
at The Oberoi Centre of Learning and Development (OCLD)

Oberoi Centre for Learning and Development (OCLD)

The Oberoi Centre for Learning and Development is based in The Oberoi Maidens, Delhi. Management
training programme at OCLD are considered among the best in Asia and a benchmark for international
excellence within the hotel industry. OCLD offers a two year post graduate management programme in
Guest Service Management, Housekeeping Management and Kitchen Management. OCLD programmes
commence in July each year with the selection process beginning in September of the previous year. Upon
successful completion one may get an opportunity to join The Oberoi Group as an Assistant Manager.

One is eligible to join (OCLD) if one has completed or is about to complete undergraduate studies in any
discipline. If one is applying for the Kitchen Management Programme one should have completed or should
be about to complete a graduate degree in hotel management.
The Oberoi Centre of Learning Development (OCLD) commenced a post graduate programme in Sales in
2017.

The 18-month programme is designed to train graduates through a combination of academic study and
comprehensive on-the-job training, for a long term career in hospitality sales with The Oberoi Group.

TAJ

The two primary training programs offered by the Taj Group are

Hotel Operations Management Trainee (HOMT)

A 12-month program designed to train the trainees to the level of an Asst. Manager of an outlet or
equivalent in any of their operational departments. On-the-job training is built in as very important
component of entire program. Recruitment for this programme commences in all key Hotels Schools and
Graduate Colleges in the country in the months of October/November. The HOMT program follows a
systematic process including induction, theory classes, on-the-job training, evaluation, appraisals and
assessments.

Taj Management Training Programme (TMTP)

Operations

TMTP prepares young people as thorough professionals with the Taj. It fortifies its operations functions with
raw talent from the best hotel and graduate schools in the country. It is comparable to an MBA in hospitality
that moulds young budding hotel professionals into future business managers. The career path could include
joining as a Taj Management Trainee and the possibility of attaining the position of a General Manager of a
hotel by lateral movements through various functions such as human resources, sales, food & beverage and
front office.

Recruitment for this programme commences in all key Hotel Schools in the country in the months of
October/November.

An 18-month intensive Management Training Programme that prepares for Profit Center management. First
12 months, the Management Trainee focuses on practical (On-the-Job training) and theoretical exposure to
the fundamentals of Hotel Management. For the remainder of the 6 months, the management trainee
receives inputs that combine elements of Management including Management Development, Architectural
Appreciation, Human Resources, Materials Management and Accommodation.
It is also combined with hands-on training as a Shadow Manager to a senior resource in one of the
properties.

The program provides educational exposure and development commensurate with an MBA in Hospitality.

Food Production

It focuses on culinary skills and the managerial ability to run kitchen operations.

Recruitment for this programme commences in all key hotel schools in the country in the months of
October/ November.

For the first 12 months, the Management Trainee focuses on practical (On-the-Job training) and theoretical
exposure to the fundamentals in Hotel management. The next 12 months are focused on specializing in two
different cuisines, one each in a 6-month period. In order to sustain the position of strength in Food and
Beverage, participants undergo specialization in various cuisines of the world. Special emphasis is given on
creating Chefs with internationally acclaimed skills.
Other Programs under TATA

TAS (formerly known as Tata Administrative Services)

It recruits young postgraduates from leading business schools each year and puts them through an intensive
12-month programme to impart a macro view of business which is critical in preparing them for general
management. Concentrated communication, consistent engagement and competitive compensation
packages have helped TAS strengthen its position as an attractive employment destination for top
talent. TAS was conceived by JRD Tata, the late chairman of the Tata group, in the 1950s, as a programme
that would help select and groom some of the best young Indians, provide them opportunities for
professional growth, and use that pool of talent as a group resource, one that could be tapped by companies
across the Tata organisation.

GOAL (Group Orientation And Learning)


Structured orientation through classroom inputs and field visits.
Four cross-functional, cross business and cross located assignments.
3 business stints of 15 weeks.
7 week rural assignment.
Mentorship program.
Development program lasting 5 years for TAS managers.

The Tata Management Training Centre (TMTC)

Aims to provide training to high performers within the group.


To act as a cradle of change for Tata executives
Designed to develop leadership traits
Acts as the learning arm of the Tata Groups human resource function.

TMTC Objectives

Improvement of organisational performance through dissemination of the latest knowledge and


skills among practicing managers
Facilitation of attitudinal and behavioural changes

TMTC Training Methodology

TMTCs training methodology stresses project orientation and action learning.


Participants are required to discuss various issues, problems and plans concerning their
organisations.
Participants are provided the opportunity to evolve solutions by interacting with a world-class
faculty.

Second Career Internship Program (SCIP)

Launched on International Womens Day in March 2008


Aimed at professional women who have taken a career break and are looking to return to the job market
Facilitates this by offering live business projects with flexible schedules and project-based employment
Selected candidates get the opportunity to work on business projects offered by Tata companies with
approximately 500 hours of engagement 5 to 6 months
The criteria for women seeking to sign up for the programme are
- Professional qualification in Management / Accountancy / Law / IT / Design or Engineering
- A minimum of 4 years of work experience
- A career break of 1 year (minimum) to 8 years (maximum) due to personal commitments
- Available in States - Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad and Delhi NCR

Taj People Philosophy (TPP)
