Its 1 October 2016 and Briana is performing at the O2 Arena in London. This
had been her

biggest performance yet since she played at the Barclay Card Arena in
Birmngham Birmingham last month,

and since teaming up with singer Alicia Keys in the All I need album, Briana
seemed invincible.

To those who knew Briana, they would know that it was like a dream come
true to partner up

with artists such as Keys. The geneses genesis of her fame began with Keys.
As an outside outsider who was

unheard of, it was actually Keys that discovered her talent one night in a caf
playing in a live

lounge; just her and her guitar singing her soul out as Alicia described. The
effect of Brianas

talent was undoubtedly phenomenal towards Alicia as she seemed portray

she seemed to portray and bring back the

real meaning of Rhythm and Blues as described by Alicia. Writer Keith Altham
was present that

night. The live lounge session was just out of this world and its a shame that
not many people

knew what she was capable of he adds. Since then, Alicia and Briana
became best friends and

their album managed to reach top of the charts of British music within 2
weeks of release and it

really has bosted fame up to this day really has boosted her fame up to this
day. As the door closed on another great year for British

music, trusty tipsters promised us that 2017 will be the year for R&B and so
far, they havent

been wrong. As were putting together this issue of Groove, Brianas latest
venture her album

tour All I need to the influence of Janet Jackson her idol - came into town
and we couldnt

resist the opportunity to question her own experience of what it feels like
being the person that

everyone is talking about. I mean shes everywhere: the radio, the TV and
even on the

news. We were particularly interested in the way the album found its way
across Europe and the

USA that transition between, say, Mariah Carey and Whitney Houstons
interpretation of R&B.

The irony wasnt lost on me that my initial popularity began here in the
country and the fact

that I was reimporting that music, says Briana while warming up with her
guitar backstage at

Bristols Colston Hall. She was wearing a beanie hat that had PURE writien
written at the front of it and

she says that describes says that it describes what her music is like pure.
Judging on her fame, I guess the whole

thing with R&B, in particular, was that if you listen to the records that were
coming out

befourhand beforehand, there was JLS which was wasnt vocally driven well,
the group was vocally driven,

but in the sense that the soloist was front and centre like the lead vocal. And
nobody ever

collaborated in an acapella group like that ever. Blurring the lines of Pop,
artist Briana proves

that there is an exciting time it is an exciting time for R&B through her
futuristic promise of her music. The influential BBC

Sound of 2014 poll, nominated and voted for by 170 industry pundits,
featured Briana along with

other artists such as Sam Smith, Chris Brown and Alicia Keys. Briana then
went on to be the

BBCs poll winner of the BRIT Critics Choice Awards. At this point, her career
was starting look

good as she starts started to gain a lot of fans. George Ergatoudis, Head of
Music at BBC Radio 1 and

1Xtra, proclaimed in an acompanying accompanying poll interview that one of

the dominant styles of 2014

would be Indie R&B as Briana seemed to make it with an independent and

experimental mind

set. So where did this new, all-conquering angel singer come from? I think
shes been out there

the whole time but people just didnt know what she was capable of says
Hattie Collins, music

editor Music Editor at Groove Magazine. Drake kick-started the rap R&B wave
(back in 2009) and then (North

American artist) The Weeknd came through. Now acts like Briana are
delivering their own take

on R&B. It took some time, but she has definitely taken the UK by storm. "The
twist in sound isn't an overnight turn-of-taste: it's such a generational
movement"-

Laura Kingscott. We are all pretty aware by now that the trend for things in
the mainstream is

nothing new. But, with the rap-led Brit singing now seemingly on the back
burner, this twist in

sound isn't an overnight turn-of-taste we're witnessing: it's a generational

movement. Let's take

upcoming Londoner MNEK by way of example. He has worked with artists

such as Janet Jackson,

J-Lo, George Michael and Calvin Harris who discovered his talent his
Soundcloud page his talent through his Soundcloud page

and are getting his soulful once over. "R&B artist who I have interviewed
recently Briana will

reference nineties R&B without a doubt" Laura Kingscott says. But Briana,
despite her youth

(she's only 20 but has been published since she was 17), she has been

appetites for a whole minute. In the past, she has collaborated with
Rudimental (with whom she

shares a studio with in east London) and Fellow-R&B soulstress Tinashe on

their early online

release Guilt. Rudimentals album track Baby is also among her writing credits
along with her

now Grammy-nominated Need U by Duke Dumont. Whilst staying in London,

Briana was paid a

visit by Emeli Sand who had been a big fan of he her music and thought that
it would be a great idea to just

spend time together for a day, you know, proffesional professional artist and
upcoming artist. It would be a

great way for Briana to learn something about how things work in the in the
music industry.

Emeli posted on her Instagram photo of her and Briana with the caption me
and Bri enjoying

the life. So what does this say bout artists just like Briana out there? Well,
one thing for sure is

that theres always a place for someone in the music. It doesnt matter what
age, height or size

you are, every talent matters says Alecia Keys. Looks like Briana is going to
the new face be the new face of

R&B and Im sure that its been truly an incredible journey for her looking at
where she started.

For R&B purists who miss the swing of the late 90s or earlier, be prepared.
And who knows,

maybe her name will soon be known all over the world.
