3.

Preliminary phase

To develop the preliminary phase, the investigation group followed a set of

steps to know about the metodology that the Teacher makes use of to teach vocabulary

to the students in the levels 9 and 10. First, researchers passed a survey to know the

oppinion of the students about how the teacher develops the class. Second,

researchers carried out an observation checklist on the classroom of the target

population to see how the teacher explains the class to the students and what tools

make use of. Finally, the researchers evaluated the students in the level 9 and 10 at

the Western Multidisciplinary Campus of the University of El Salvador with an

evaluation exam.

3.1 Aproaching the Fiel of Study

Since one of the most important aspects of learning a second language is

acquire a vocabulary that helps to communicate in the best way with others, the

research team studied the way which the teacher teaches the vocabulary in the

classrooms and the tools that used. Many studies about vocabulary teaching are based

on the way which this is taught for example it is said that giving a list of vocabulary it is

not helpful for the students to learn it; it is better to use methologies that have been

suggested by people that have developed them.

3.2 Diagnostic study

After having chosen the field of study, the research team carried out a survey to

know about the tools that the teachers uses. Then the team carried out an observation

in the classrooms of the chosen sample, to see how the teachers helps to the

students learning process. Moreover, the researchers focused on the students

perception of the vocabulary since this is an essential aspect to communicate and it

cannot be ignore in the second language learning process.


3.3 Definition of the problem

After conducting the diagnostic study, the research team studied two variables.

One of the two variables aimed to the metodology that the teachers use to teach the

students on the levels 9 and 10 to learn the vocabulary. The other variable aimed to

know the vocabulary that the students made use of at this point of the second

language learning process.
