INTRODUCTION

Terminals are end stations of one or more public utility vehicle routes often used

for any large station with facilities, such as waiting rooms, ticket offices and so on. It is

any building or facility constructed primarily for the purpose of loading and unloading of

passengers and cargoes by public utility vehicles.

People can now go to cities and other major places in Cavite through the use of

these vehicles. Moreover, goods and services are transported in an easier way through the

use of jeepneys and tricycles. Similar to other cities, jeepneys and tricycles are the most

common modes of transportation in Silang, Cavite. At the present time, the number of

jeepneys and tricycles in Silang are increasing.

Because of the increase in their number, some of these vehicles became the source

of traffic congestion due to extensive loading and unloading in the middle of the street,

blocking the flow of traffic, and risking the safety of the passengers. Along with the

increasing number of jeepneys and tricycles in Silang, a well-designed transport terminal

should be developed. An appropriate transport terminal design will facilitate in

minimizing traffic congestion and will bring safety to other vehicles, pedestrians and

passengers.

The study to be presented in the design project will evaluate the existing traffic

problems due to the said vehicles at the Town Proper of Silang, and to provide a design of

a transport terminal that can be beneficial for all the commuters and motorists.
Statement of the Problem

The problem that this study aims to provide solution to traffic congestion and

parking difficulties at the municipality of Silang, due to the increase of number of the

public utility vehicles namely the jeepneys and tricycles.

Importance of the Study

With the growing number of passengers, private vehicles, and public vehicles, the

study will assure the effectiveness of a transport terminal for minimizing the traffic

congestion at the municipality of Silang.

Objectives of the Study

The objectives of the study is to design a four-storey transport terminal in the

municipality of Silang, Cavite, specifically, it aims to;

1. apply knowledge of the researcher acquired in the civil engineering program;

2. serve as reference to other students, engineers, and contractors for their future

design.
3. assign parking spaces for the increasing number of jeepneys and tricycles;
4. conduct structural analysis using STAAD;
5. develop the routing and the flow of vehicles inside and outside the transport

terminal;
6. designate loading and unloading zone;
7. and to estimate the cost of the whole structure.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

The study will be focused on the need and useful design of transport terminal for

jeepneys and tricycles. Other means of transportation will be included only for the
purpose of their presence in the traffic flow in the area. Since there is existing parcel of

land for establishment of the transport terminal, it will only propose the site, the facilities

and the layout of the transport terminal based on the requirement. Plumbing and

Electrical Plans will be included.

Date and Place of the Study

The study will be conducted in Cavite State University, Main Campus on August

2016 to May 2016.

Definition of Terms

Aggregate is a broad category of coarse particulate material used in construction,

including sand,gravel, crushed stone, slag, recycled concrete and geosynthetic aggregates
Cement is a binder, a substance used in construction that sets and hardens and can bind

other materials together.

Concrete is a composite material composed of coarse aggregate bonded together with a

fluid cement which hardens over time.

Concrete Hollow Block is a large rectangular block used in building construction.

Formwork is the term given to either temporary or permanent molds into

which concrete or similar materials are poured.

Moments are usually defined with respect to a fixed reference point; they deal with

physical quantities as measured at some distance from that reference point.

Scaffolding also called scaffold or staging, is a temporary structure used to support a

work crew and materials to aid in the construction, maintenance and repair of buildings,

bridges and all other manmade structures.

Shear is the deformation of a material substance in which parallel internal surfaces slide

past one another

Structural Analysis is the determination of the effects of loads on

physical structures and their components.
