Housing Options Workshop
On 24th March Inclusion North are hosting a free
Housing Options workshop in York for people with
learning disabilities and families across Yorkshire
and Humber and the North East.
There will be speakers from:
Steve Harris from Reside Housing
Association

Shared Lives, and

David Abbey from My Safe Home Limited

Get a clearer understanding of the different


types of housing options that are available

Hear in more detail about how Shared Lives


works

Family Based Positive Support Project

Northumbria University and the Northumberland


Tyne and Wear NHS trust have a family based
support project.

They are researching a new course that could help


family carers who look after adults with a learning
disability and who also might have a behaviour that
challenges.

The new course will help people learn new ways of


managing stress.

The course uses Positive Behaviour Support


Acceptance Commitment Therapy and
Mindfulness.

They are looking for families who have had support


from Northumberland Tyne and Wear NHS Trust to
take part in the course.

Autism Employment Information Event

North Yorkshire County Council are holding events


to help people with autism to find a job.

Bradford People First Roadshow
Bradford People First are holding an event to
support people to learn how to become more
independent by:

Lets Talk About Money
Learning Disability England are bringing together
self-advocates, family members and organisations
to talk about money.
The event will be about:
United Nations Convention on the Rights of
Persons with Disabilities report.
Experiences of people with learning
disabilities
Is there enough money for people to live good
lives and take part as equal citizens
Cut in the benefits, housing and help people
need.

Parent Carer Information Day in York

York Carers Centre is running a Parent Carer


Information day with York Parent Carer Forum.

It is a chance for parent carers to drop in, have a


drink and get advice, information and support from
different groups including Family Fund, Core
Assets and the City of York Councils Transition's
Team.

The event will be held on Wednesday 22 March


From 12pm to 2.30pm
At New Earswick Folk Hall.

Membership of York Parent Carer Forum is free


and open to parents and carers of children and
young people aged 0-25 who have a disability or
additional need and access services in York.

Tyneside Access Cinema
Tyneside Cinema is showing films for people with
learning disabilities, autism or additional needs.

You can enjoy family films every two weeks on


Sundays.

The sound will be turned down and the lights up a


little.

Access Cinema staff will be around throughout the


film if you need any help.

Friends Action North East (FANE) and
North Tyneside Social Group
North Tyneside social group is to set up a friendly,
regular group for people with learning disability or
autism living in North Tynside.

The group will visit different places, caf and bars


and then people can review each place based on
accessibility for NEAR (North East Accessibility
Rating) Awards.

The group will meet on the Second Saturday each


month.

Care and Treatment Review Policy

The publication of the refreshed Care and


Treatment Review Policy has been delayed by a
few weeks.

Improving end of life care for people with


a learning disability
NHS England is starting a new piece of work on
improving end of life care for people with a learning
disability.
NHS England will be making a guide for
commissioners.
The guide will be about good quality support for
people with a learning disability as they come to the
end of their life.
