UEMK4323/ UEMK 4324 PROCESS AND PLANT DESIGN I

ASSIGNMENT 2: 10%

PLEASE PRINT BOTH SIDE OF THE PAPER IN THE DESIGN REPORT.

Design Problems:

Group of engineers have to assembly a preliminary database, implement the steps in creating
preliminary flowsheet, identify the principal pieces of equipment and create a detailed process
flow diagram with stream summary table for the process and list of major equipment items.

Submission Deadline: 13 March 2017 by 4 pm (Dr. Sim JH Pigeon Hall)

Scopes of the study:

Preliminary Process Synthesis
Based on the identified reaction pathways for the process, perform:
Preliminary Database Creation (Thermophysical property data, Environmental and Safety
Data, Chemical Prices, Data obtained from laboratory experiment etc.). (10 marks)
Preliminary Process Synthesis:
1. Identify desired specifications for raw materials and products. (10 marks)
2. Eliminate differences between molecular types. (10 marks)
3. Distribute the chemicals. (20 marks)
4. Eliminate differences in composition. (10 marks)
5. Eliminate differences in T, P and Phase. (10 marks)
6. Integrate tasks (combine operations in block flow diagram (BFD) and decide operation
mode). (20 marks)
IMPORTANT: Attach the BFD in the report. (10 marks)
