the marriages of `Abdul-Muttalib Ibn Haashim and `Abdullah Ibn
`Abdul-Muttalib were completed together. Haalah gave birth to
Sayyidunaa Hamzah Ibn `Abdul-Muttalib
; and Thuwaibah, the
slave girl of Abu Lahab, nursed both Rasoolullah  and Sayyidunaa
Hamzah
. Through this, Sayyidunaa Hamzah
was not only the
uncle of Rasoolullah , but also his brother through nursing.”11
The pregnancy of Aaminah with Rasoolullah  and his birth
Sayyidunaa Yazeed Ibn `Abdullah Ibn Zam`ah
narrates that his
aunty said, “We heard that when Aaminah was pregnant with
Rasoolullah , she used to say, "I never felt that I was pregnant with
him, and I did not find the weight of pregnancy. However, I denied
the absence of my menstrual cycle; perhaps it was absent and then it
would return. Someone approached me, while I was half-asleep, and
said, "Have you felt that you are pregnant? It was as if I was saying,
"I do not know. That person replied, "Verily, you are pregnant with
the leader of this Ummah and its Prophet. That was on a Monday.”12
Sayyidunaa Ibn `Abbaas
narrates that Aaminah Bint Wahb said,
“I held on to him (meaning Rasoolullah ), and I did not find
through him hardship until I gave birth to him. When I gave birth to
him, a light came out with him that illuminated what is between east
and west. Then he fell onto the earth, lying on his hands, and then he
took hold of some sand held it in his hand, and raised his head to the
heavens.”13

His Noble Names And His Lineage

[And remember, when `Isa, the son of Maryam said: Oh
children of Israa-eel, verily, I am the Messenger of Allah to
you, confirming what is in front of me of the Torah, and a
bearer of glad-tidings that a Messenger will come after me,
whose name will be Ahmad.]5
Sayyidunaa Jubayr Ibn Mut`im
narrates, “The Messenger of Allah
 said, “I have many names; I am Muhammad, I am Ahmad, I am
Al-Maahee through whom Allah will eradicate disbelief, I am Al-
Haashir after whose coming mankind will be resurrected, and I am
Al-`Aaqib after whom there is no prophet.”6
Rasoolullah  has many names. Imaam An-Nawawi
says, Imaam
Abu Bakr Ibn Al-`Arabi Al-Maliki
says in his commentary on
Tirmithi, `Aaridatul Ahwathee Fee Sharhit Tirmithi, "Some of the
Sufi scholars say, "Allah  has one-thousand names, and
Rasoolullah  has one-thousand names. Regarding the names of
Allah, I have mentioned a small number of them, and with regards
to the names of Rasoolullah , I am aware of forty-six names." Then

Al-Faatih, Al-Ameen, Al-Mustafaa, Al-Khaatam, Ar-Rasool, An-
Nabi, Al-Ummi, Al-Qayyim, Nabiyyut Tawbah, Al-Qaasim, Al-
`Abd, `Abdullah, Al-Muzzammiel, Al-Muddaththir, Ash-Shafee`,
Ash-Shaafi`, Al-Mushaffa`, Al-Habeeb, Al-Khateeb, Al-Hayyee, Al-
Khaleel, Ad-Daa`ee, As-Siraajul Muneer, Hareesun `Alaykum,
Ra’oofun Raheemun, At-Tayyib, Thul `Azm, As-Saahib, As-Saalih,
As-Sayyid, Al-Qaa’id, Al-Imaam, Al-Hirz, An-Noor, Al-Azwar, Al-
Ajwad, Ash-Shakoor, Al-Haqqul Mubeen, Al-Kareem, Al`Adheem,
Al-Jabbaar, Al-Khabeer, Al-Wali, Al-Muqaddas, Taahaa and
Yaaseen.
The explanations of these names
Muhammad : He is constantly praised.
Ahmad : The Arabs heard that Allah is sending a Prophet whose
name will be Muhammad , so they named their boys Muhammad
before the birth of the Noble Prophet . Similarly, they also gave the
name Ahmad to male children.
Al-Maahee : Allah will eradicate disbelief through him, by
clarifying the proof of its falsehood, and each time the proof appears
about disbelief being falsehood; there remains nothing of its
manifestation.
Al-Haashir : Mankind will be resurrected after his coming and the
time of his Prophethood, in other words, he is a reason for their
resurrection, and they will not be resurrected until he has been sent.
Al-`Aaqib : He succeeds in goodness those before him.
Al-Muqaffee : The same meaning as Al-`Aaqib, but Al-Muqaffee
Sayyidunaa Waathilah Ibn Al-Asqa`
narrates, “I heard the
Messenger of Allah  saying that, "Allah chose Kanaanah from the
progeny of Ismaa`eel, He chose Quraish from Kanaanah, He chose
Banu Haashim from Quraish, and He chose me from Banu
Haashim."9
Sayyidunaa Al-Muttalib Ibn Abu Wadaa`ah
narrates that,
“Sayyidunaa Abbaas
came to Rasoolullah  because he had
heard something, so the Noble Prophet  stood up on top of the
mimbar and said, "Who am I?" They replied, “You are the Messenger
of Allah.” The Noble Prophet  said "I am Muhammad Ibn
`Abdullah Ibn `Abdul-Muttalib; verily, Allah created the creation,
and He made me from the best of them; then He divided them into
two groups, and made me from the best group of them. Then He
divided them into tribes, and made me from the best tribe of them;
then He divided them into houses, and made me from the best
house of them, and the best person of them."10
The marriage of `Abdullah son of `Abdul-Muttalib, the father of
Rasoolullah , to Aaminah daughter of Wahb, the mother of
Rasoolullah 
Sayyidunaa Muhammad Ibn `Ali Ibn Al-Husayn  said, “Aaminah,
daughter of Wahb, son of `Abdu Manaaf, was in her uncle’s room,
Waheeb, son of `Abdu Manaaf, son of Zahrah. `Abdul-Muttalib Ibn
Haashim Ibn `Abdu Manaaf Ibn Qusay walked towards him with
his son, `Abdullah Ibn `Abdul-Muttalib, the father of Rasoolullah .
Abdullah proposed to Aaminah, daughter of Wahb, and afterwards
he married her. `Abdul-Muttalib asked Waheeb for his daughter’s
hand, Haalah, and Waheeb gave him her hand in marriage. Thus,

stationary, but We have made the sun its guide.]7; contains the
following meanings: "The shadow" refers to the darkness of disbelief;
“If He willed, He could make it stationary” means that Allah  could
have stopped sending the Messengers AS, and "the sun" refers to the
Noble Prophet .
The lineage of the Noble Prophet  and his prime
Sayyidunaa `Umar
used to recite this verse in praise of
Rasoolullah :
   
means "noble", and the Noble Prophet  has been named this due to
his high nobility.
Nabiyyur Rahmah : From Allah’s  saying, [And We have not
sent you, but as a Mercy to the worlds.]
Nabiyyul Malaahim : Rasoolullah  fights the disbelievers;
(Malhamah means war and Malaahim is its plural). This is out of his
Mercy for them, because he brings them into Islam, thereby leading
them to Jannah.
Ash-Shaahid: From the verse: [And We have come with you as a
Witness over these people].
Al-Mubashir  and An-Natheer : From the verse: [A Bringer of

     glad-tidings and a Warner. He gives glad-tidings for good, and
"If you were other than a human being, you would be the warns about the punishment.
brilliant light on the night of the full moon!" Ad-Dahook : Due to his smiling; he was someone that constantly
smiled and did not frown, and this is one of his names in the Torah.
Imaam Al-Bukhari
in his chapter on the coming of the Noble Al-Mutawakkil : He always put his trust in Allah and depended
Prophet  shows the lineage of Rasoolullah  as: “He is on Him, and he left all his matters to Allah.
Muhammad Ibn `Abdullah Ibn `Abdul-Muttalib Ibn Haashim Ibn Al-Faatih : He opened the doors of knowledge for his followers.
`Abdu Manaaf Ibn Qusay, Ibn Kilaab Ibn Murrah Ibn Ka`b Ibn Lu’ay Al-Ameen : The Noble Prophet’s  people gave him this title
Ibn Ghaalib, Ibn Fahr Ibn Maalik Ibn An-Nadr Ibn Kanaanah (Ibn during the period of ignorance, when they witnessed his
Khuzaimah), Ibn Mudrikah Ibn Ilyaas Ibn Mudar, Ibn Nizaar ibn truthfulness and trustworthiness.
Ma`d Ibn `Adnaan.” Imaam An-Nawawi
says that, “Until here is
the consensus of the Ummah; as for after it until Adam , the Sayyidah `Aa-ishah RA replied, when asked about the character of
difference in opinion is strong, and none of it is authentic and relied Rasoolullah :

Sayyidunaa Abu Hurairah
narrates, “The Messenger of Allah  "His character is the Qur'aan!"
said, “I have been sent in the best of generations of the children of
Adam , generation after generation, until I was born in my Al-Mustafaa : From Al-Istifaa, the prime of something.
time.”8 Al-Khaatam : The last of the Prophets AS that were sent.
An-Nabi : He taught humanity about Allah, and brought Islam to
the entire creation.

Ar-Rasool : The Prophet upon whom a book was revealed. Every
Surah Al-Furqaan (25), v 45

Al-Ummi : Relating to the mother of towns, Makkah, where
Rasoolullah  was born; or because he was unlettered.
Al-Qayyim: Rasoolullah  combines all the qualities of virtuous
character. He is complete in virtuous character and flawless. It also
means the one who brings humanity together by instilling harmony
between them and eradicating their differences.
Nabiyyut Tawbah : He came with the acceptance of all
repentance.
Al-Qaasim : He distributed the wealth of Allah  amongst His
servants.
Al-`Abd : He was extremely disciplined, so he was given the title
of "The Servant", meaning that he is Allah's  most loyal servant.
`Abdullah : The Servant Of Allah; this is a title of specification and
honour, like ‘The House of Allah’.
Al-Muzzammiel : He said to Sayyidah Khadeejah RA, after the
first revelation: “Cover me”.
Al-Muddaththir : This name arises from the term Ad-Dithaar;
which means something that man uses to cover himself. In this way,
we cover ourselves with Rasoolullah's  Noble Sunnah and his
exemplary character.
Al-Habeeb : Allah loves him more than He loves any of His other
creation, and the love of Allah for His servant is an indication that
Allah wants only good for that servant.
Al-Khateeb : He will address the Prophets AS on the Day of
Qiyaamah.
Al-Khaleel : He is the closest friend of Allah.
Ad-Daa`ee : From the verse, [I invite to Allah through insight.].
As-Siraajul Muneer : Within his invitation is clear, complete proof
of his truthfulness.
Hareesun `Alaykum : This name means being anxious for our
welfare and wanting only that which is good, thereby leading
humanity to their guidance and salvation.
Ra`oofun Raheemun : Derived from the names of Allah .
At-Tayyib : From the verse, [Pure women are for pure men].
Thul `Azm : Possessor of Determination; he was commanded to
follow the Prophets of this category and was given the title.
As-Saahib : From Allah’s saying, [Your companion has not gone
astray].
As-Saalih : The pious one, from the saying of the Noble Prophets
AS, when Rasoolullah  when for Mi'raaj- “A warm welcome for our
pious brother”.
As-Sayyid : He is the leader of creation.
Al-Hirz : The well protected, because angels always protect him.
An-Noor : From the vision of his mother, when she saw a light
coming out with him, due to which the heavens and earth were
illuminated.
Al-Azhar : From the saying of Sayyiduna Waasifah
- “Radiant
and shining in colour”.
Al-Ajwad : He is the most generous of people.
Ash-Shakoor : From the Noble Prophet’s  saying, “Should I not
be a grateful servant?”, when he had stood in prayer until his feet
were swollen.
Al-Haqqul Mubeen : The Manifest Truth; from the verse, [Until
the Truth came to them and a clear Messenger]. This title is derived
from two names of Allah, when He says, [And verily, you are of
great character].
Al-Kareem : Due to his high nobility in the eyes of Allah.
Al-`Adheem : From the Torah- ‘Great for a great nation’ and the
verse, [And verily, you are of great character].
Al-Jabbaar : He always used to overpower the enemies.
Al-Khabeer : From Allah’s saying, [So ask a well informed about
Allah.]
Al-Muqaddas : This name means that Rasoolullah  was pure
from all sins. Also from his names is the title Ash-Shams (The sun),
and some `Ulamaa of Tafseer say that the verse, [Did you not see
how your Lord prolongs the shadow? If He willed, He could make it
