GENERAL FORMAT FOR WRITING ARTICLE FOLLOWING ACTION RESEARCH

METHOD

There many types of format can be used as guideline when writing an academic
article following action research method. Article prepared by researcher normally
influence by their own school of thought, subject or discipline of knowledge.
However, the main elements of article basically are same following main research
aspects that researcher required to present in the research report. For the purpose
of this course students are advised to write an action research article following
same format which comprises common elements as explained below.

A. Front Page should consists

(i) Topic of the article

(ii) Students name

(iii) Abstract

B. Introduction

An introduction is similar to statement of problem in ordinary research report.

Summarize your statement of problem and you may combine it with background of
the problem. For action research study this part is normally be based on teachers
self reflection about their teaching experience . Support your reflection journal with
some research findings written by previous researchers. As agreed in the previous
discussion, you problem statement must be related to teaching-learning problem
and the last sentence of this part you need to write some suggestion how to
improve your problem.

C. Literature Review of Review of Literature

(i) Related Theory : Literature review should started with theory which you use as a
guideline for your action research study. You may write or explain the theory in the
study context by itself or you ay blend it with review of the literature. The theory
you choose must be related to your topic and you may find it in the review of
literature or theory that been used by other researcher before you.
(ii) Literature Review : A literature review is a review about past research report
written by previous researchers on the same topic that you are currently preparing.
Do no claim your research topic is the first one in the world, so that there s no
literature for that topic. Get some appropriate reviews to support your research
study and summarise them clearly in brief.

D. Methodology

(i) Setting/ Location of the Study

(ii) Participants of the study: explain briefly their background

(iii) Research Instruments and data collection-gathering using instruments

chosen

(iv) Method of assessing/ evaluation of formative test (if necessary)

(v) Data Analysis

E. Data Analysis

(i) Data Analysis Cycle 1 : Consists of Reflection, Plan, Action, Observation,

Reflection, present all the
qualitative and quantitative (descriptive data if necessary) following the
themes identified.

(ii) Data Analysis Cycle 2 : Consists of Reflection, Plan, Action, Observation,

Reflection, present all the
qualitative and quantitative (descriptive data if necessary) following the
themes identified.

present all the qualitative Consists of Reflection, Plan, Action, Observation,

Reflection, present all

(iii) Data Analysis Cycle 3 - present all the qualitative and quantitative
(descriptive data if necessary)
