3rd Year Communication - Jan 2017

Extra Optional Circuit Submission Rules

1- Maximum marks: 15 marks

2- Delivery times (Dr. Hossams office)

Date Time

Sunday 5 Feb. 2017 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM

Tuesday 7 Feb. 2017 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM
Thursday 9 Feb. 2017 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM

3- Instructions

a- The projects are optional, no need for students with high years
work marks to do them. They are directed only to students with low
marks if they want to enhance their marks.

b- The maximum number of marks is 15 marks. Each individual

student is allowed to submit
One 5 marks project to get extra 5 marks
One 10 marks project to get extra 10 marks.
Or One 5 marks project and One 10 marks project to get extra 15
marks.

c-Lab circuits will be handled and kept until the first week of the
second term. It will be then delivered to the student.
5 Marks Projects

1- Interface a DTMF encoder generator chip HT9200B to DTMF decoder

chip HT9170. The encoder is to be connected to 4 DIP switches and the
decoder is to be connected to 4 LEDS. The status of the switches is to be
transferred to the LEDS. This simple system can be used in various
control applications.

Notes: each IC requires 3.579MHz crystal oscillator and HT9200B ic comes

surface mounted 14 pin so you should make an adaptor to use it on
breadboard.

2- Build a digital PIR motion detector for security systems. You may use
AM622 digital sensor or equivalent. You should use small Fresnel lens
for focusing the signal. The time of the signal should be controlled by a
resistor. Do not use light dependent resistor so that the sensor works in
light and dark. When motion happens, the sensor outputs a signal
connected to LED for the predetermined time. The circuit should be
battery operated.

3- Build an analog PIR motion detector for security system. You may use
D203S analogue sensor or equivalent with motion sensor IC such as
LP8072 or equivalent. The time of the signal should be controlled by a
resistor. Do not use light dependent resistor so that the sensor works in
light and dark. When motion happens, the sensor outputs a signal
connected to LED for the predetermined time. The circuit should be
battery operated.
10 Marks Projects

1- Interface 8x8 full color RGB module dot matrix module to any
microcontroller of your choice (AVR, PIC, Arduino,
AT89C51ED2, ) You should write C code to display several
patterns (of 8 colors) on the module. The columns should be
driven by a three shift register chips such as 74164 (or
equivalent)

2- Interface one 16x16 single color dot matrix module to any
microcontroller of your choice (AVR, PIC, Arduino,
AT89C51ED2, ) You should write C code to display several
patterns on the module. The columns should be driven by two
shift register chips such as 74164 (or equivalent)
