This session covers the workflow and benefits of Autodesk Factory Design Suite 2012.
In this demonstration, you use factory specific functionality added to AutoCAD to optimize a current 2D layout to improve
how material flows through the machining and assembly line.
1. In AutoCAD Architecture, open 2. Ensure the Material Flow Browser and Factory Object
\ACAD\1_2012_FDS_Demo_ACAD_Material_Flow_Analysis. Properties palettes are displayed. If they are not, then on the
Factory tab, Tools panel:
12. Review the total time and distance for the current
configuration.
13. In canvas, use the cursor as a visual pointer and trace the
arrows from the start to the end.
17. Repeat the process to set the transportation types as follows: 22. To update the processing time for this machine, in the
Factory Object Properties palette, under Properties, in the
Processing Time field, enter 3.
Operation : Head Rough Machining = Conveyor
Operation : Valve Seat Machining = ForkTruck
Operation : Exhaust / intake machining = Conveyor
Operation : Valve Seat Machining = Conveyor
Operation : Clean = Conveyor
Operation : Coating application = ForkTruck
Operation : leak testing = Conveyor
Operation : assemble 4 CYL = Conveyor
18. Review the total time and distance for the current
configuration.
21. In the Material Flow Browser palette, select the second listed
Operation : Valve Seat Machining as shown.
25. Review the results of the change. Notice the percentage of
use value on the dashboard decreased and the callout for
this operation turned from red to green.
2D Factory Layout
In this demonstration, you modify the existing factory floor layout by replacing the storage equipment and the equipment
in a CNC machining area. You also send the 2D layout to Autodesk Inventor in preparation of creating the layout in 3D.
2D Factory Layout
1. Open .\ACAD\2_2012_FDS_ACAD_Factory_Layout.dwg. 3. To review saved layer states and set up for placing new
equipment, on the Home tab, Layers panel, Layer States
list:
3D Factory Layout
In this demonstration, you leverage the 2D factory layout that was created in AutoCAD as a reference to create the
factory design in 3D.
1. Continue working with the Autodesk Inventor file created 4. Approximately position the equipment on the floor as
in Demonstration: 2D Factory Layout. shown. To do this, do the following:
2. To have 3D assets automatically added to the layout
where their linked 2D assets were placed, in the browser, In canvas, click when the preview displays
right-click 2_2012_FDS_ACAD_Factory_Layout. Click where required.
Auto-place 3D Assets. On the in-canvas toolbar, click OK.
In canvas, right-click. Click Done.
10. Click and drag the cursor up to move forward until just
before the forklift. Drag the cursor so when you stop, you
are looking toward the short roller conveyors.
14. To measure the distance from the storage rack to the 17. Switch to the Clash Detection saved viewpoint. To do
edge of the isle: this, on the Viewpoint tab, Save, Load & Playback panel,
list of Saved Viewpoints, select Clash Detection.
Click the end point of the storage rack leg as
identified.
Click a point on the isle line as identified. TIP:
Use the factory floor grid lines as a guide to
determine where to click to the measurement is
perpendicular to the isle line to the first point.
Review the distance.
1. Open 2_4D_Demo.nwd. When prompted to save 3. On the Home tab, Tools palette, click TimeLiner.
changes, click No. As an option, prior to starting the
demonstration, have a second instance of Navisworks
running with the file open.
