11 Construction Tech Report, February 2016

Key Trends in Construction Tech
There is an increase in the adaptation of BIM-based collaboration from previously dependent 2D drawing based
collaboration to efficiently execute projects in time and manage costs
Governments mandate on usage of BIM for all public projects in nations like The United States, Singapore, United Kingdom,
Norway, Denmark, Finland, Chile, Hong Kong, South Korea, Netherlands and Dubai has forced AEC industry to adopt BIM
Usage of pre-construction visualization using VR and AR tools is still in its nascent stages. Owners and architects continue to
majorly rely on 3D models and brochures to explain and sell their projects to clients
Reducing levels of productivity, lack of availability of skilled labor and demands by owners for transparency in project
execution are forcing construction companies to use IT solutions for project management
There is an increasing trend of vertical acquisitions with companies like Trimble following Connected Construction Site
Strategy so as to provide end-to-end solutions for the construction industry
We see an increasing penetration of mobile devices in construction sites to manage projects and the companies being
founded of late are either taking Mobile-First approach or offering both Web and mobile solutions
There is an increasing shift from on-premise to SaaS-based approach for construction project management solutions and
the trend even extending to design authoring tools which is evident from Autodesks recent announcement to offers its
products only on subscription basis starting from February 2016
Higher cost of owning an equipment, lot of equipment idle time and the emergence of sharing economy are turning
contractors to rent equipment when in need
