There are 3 such stations :- 41 Combined Radio Control & Hydraulic station housing Radio Recvr & Control valves 4 — Distribution Box housing system circuit breakers, fuses, cnt! transformrs + 24Vdc PSU 1/~ Brake Control Box housing brake switchgear, E-Stop relays and control relays All the signals from these enclosuresto the basket & platform, both hydraulic and electrical pass thro a rag chain between the 60ft level landing to the platform Control Philosophy ‘All movements are driven via proportional control valves being controlled from the radio receiver which in turn receives commands from the operators transmitter. This transmitter contains joystick/paddle controls for each movement and transmits a variable signal to the receiver. The level of the signal being dependent on paddle position ie paddle fully forward = max signal level. Each varying signal is relayed by the radio receiver to i's respective proportional control valve controlling the cil flow and as a consequence the speed of travel of the relevant function. With the exception of the carriage Raise/Lower all movements are limited at the ends of travel mechanically. The carriage however has “End of Travel" proximity sensors. These sensors are located ‘on the carriage and are looking for Top & Bottom targets mounted on the Derrick. On seeing these targets the proximity switch signals a slave relay in the control panel that kils the signal to the relevant proportional valve. The two electro magnetic emergency brakes fitted to each carriage drive are energised to release when power is turned on and the Controls (E-Stop) is reset. These brakes stay released until an ‘emergency condition is present in the form of an Emergency Stop or a carriage traverse “Overspeed” ie a runaway condition, The speed of each drive is monitored by a preset speed sensor and the controls. are arranged in such a manner that if either drive sensor trips both brakes will engage. In addition to the forgoing, each brake is fitted with “Brake Released” & "Brake Worn" switches. These switches are ‘connected to alarm lamps on the front of the Brake Control Panel to indicate their status. Each brake require a DC power supply and this is generated via a pair of "Roba Stop * brake rectifier ‘sets normally housed within the brake housing, Lack of available space due to the fitting ofthe intemal limit switches and anti condensation heaters resulted in these “Roba Stops" being supplied loose with the brakes. Safety of this radio remote control system This radio remote control system is equipped with both electronic and mechanical protection devices. When allocated, coding applies to one transmitter only, meaning that control commands cannot be received from other transmitters. This concerns your safety In the event of incorrect operation or misuse, there is a risk of harm to - the health of the operator or other persons, and - the machine and other property All persons working with this radio remote control system - must be both suitably qualified and have been instructed as ~ required by regulations = must strictly comply with the contents of these operating instructions. 1.2. Safety information and tips ec ee a ‘The following symbols are used for warnings and advisory notes in these ‘operating instructions, with the following meanings: This symbol is used to warn you of the risk.of fatal’accidents or serious injuries. Such risks can arise whenever operating or working instructions are not strictly followed. This symbol is used:to. warn you of the risk of damage to the machine or and cother property if the operating or working instructions are either not. followed or not: followed: properly. Disregarding, these warnings: may void your warranty. This. symbol is used for important notes relevant for the explosion ~ protection of this radio remote control. 1.3. Sources of risk The system is designed for permitting machines to be controlled by radio remote control. However, since the control commands also are transmitted beyond your range of vision, and through or around obstacles in the vicinity, you should always: - Put the transmitter down only in a safe and dry location, switch the transmitter off and pull the key from the key switch (or if your transmitter does not have a key switch, remove the rechargeable battery or the battery compartment). . Disconnect the power supply before you start any installation, maintenance or repair work! - Avoid removing or modifying any safety devices! - When taking the spare battery into the hazardous area, it is absolutely necessary for the operator to keep with him. - The antenna of thr EX-transmitter must only be changed outside the hazardous area. 1.4. Qualified operators (Refer to the operating instructions for the machine you intend to operate with this control system!) The operator is responsible for ensuring that when the transmitter is put down, it cannot be used by unauthorized persons. This can be done either by pulling the key from the key switch, by removing the rechargeable battery or by storing the transmitter in a locked location. fe the operator with these operating instructions - ensure that the operator has read and understood them. ‘The operator of the system is comitted: = to keep systems in a proper condition, - to operate the systems properly. - to permanently survey and check the systems if the explosion protection is still guaranteed, 1.5. Safety precautions in the working area - Ensure that there is no risk of slipping in the work area. - Before each use of the radio remote control system, check that nobody is within the working area or swiveling range of your load - Ifa carrying aid is prescribed for your transmitter, this is to be worn during use. Either turn the key switch to the off position.and pull the key, or remove the rechargeable battery or the battery compartment from the receptacle when putting the transmitter down. This will prevent undesired use or misuse:of the transmitter by third parties, 1.6. Protection devices The machine will be stoppe: - IF you actuate the red EMERGENCY STOP button or the Stop button on the control panel of the transmitter - Ifthe range is exceeded - _ Ifthere is receiver interference - Ifthe rechargeable battery or the battery compartment is removed - If the rechargeable battery or non-rechargeable batteries is/are run down These protection devices: = are included for the safety of both persons and property, and - must not be modified, removed or bypassed under any circumstances or in any way whatsoever! Additional protection devices (depen version) - Guard rim, guard clip or recessed function buttons. These safety devices protect against undesired actuation of the control elements, which in turn prevents unintentional control commands from being transmitted. Both transmitter and batteries are intrinsically safe (protection type “i"). The transmitter has got an antistatic surface (surface resistance between 10' 9 and 10° 0). The non-antistatic projected surface of the batteries is < 20 cm’. The contacts of the EX-batteries are interchanged to those of the standard batteries, in order to avoid operation with the wrong batteries. 1.7. What to do in an emergency In an emergency, immediately press the red EMERGENCY STOP button or the other EMERGENCY STOP button on the transmitter control panel. Then proceed as instructed in the operating instructions for your machine. (Figs. 1-3) EMERGENCY STOP button EMERGENCY STOP button Version 1 Version 2 (Fig. 2) 2. Operation Have you read and understood the operating instructions, in particular section 1 on safety and protection devices? You may not use the device until you have done so! 2.1. Handling batteries HETRONIC radio remote control systems are delivered with a HETRONIC battery charger 12/24 VDC or 115/230 VAC and two rechargeable HETRONIC batteries. The operating time with a charged battery is approximately 12 hours, depending on the transmitter type. 2.1.1. Replacing rechargeable batteries Ensure that there is no dirt or grime in the rechargeable battery compartment, as this can lead to breaks in contact. The transmitter electronics continuously monitor the battery voltage. When this has dropped below a certain value, the operating LED on the transmitter begins to flash red, or you hear an acoustic, signal and the system switches off. Proceed as follows: = Bring the machine to a safe state as soon as possible, - Switch off the sender by turing the key switch to position 0. HETRONIC rechargeable batteries: - Remove the run down rechargeable battery by pressing the edge lip or battery cover forward, then pull up and out. + Take a charged battery and insert itin the designated pockets of the transmitter battery compartment with both contact points forward both guide rails down. - Then press the rechargeable battery in the direction of the battery receptacle until the battery fully locks into place. The battery type MINI-EX-___ must only be used for the supply of explosion-proof devices within the hazardous area, when it is secured agaist falling out the battery compartment. Therefore pay attention that the battery locks fully and correctly into place and fits firmly. 2.1.2. Charging the battery Make sure that the battery charger is destined for charging explosion-proof devices and that you are outside the hazardous area or in a room which is specially shielded and marked for charging. The battery charger must have two reduction blocks, as otherwise charging the batteries is not possible (see pictures below). Inserting the battery: Insert the battery in the designated pockets of the charger's battery compartment with both contact pins forward and both guide rails down. Now press the edge lip until the battery fully locks into place. A yellow LED on the battery charger shines as long al the battery is charged. ‘The green LED shines when charging is finished. Ifyou press the fast charge button at the charger a red LED is shining additional to the yellow one. Always leave on battery in the transmitter and put the second battery into the charger. Thus you have a charged battery available any time. Battery Charger Transmitter (example)) 2.1.3. Battery Charger MIN] UCH-2-AC-EX @ or MINI UCH-2-DC-EX The battery charger includes a charging processor which controls and regulates the whole charging process. The battery charger is, depending on the version, destined for operating voltages of 10 - 30 VDC or 90 - 270 VAC. After inserting the battery into the battery compartment a yellow shining LED on the battery charger indicates the charging process. When the charging process is finished a green LED is shining. The battery charger recognizes automatically when the battery is fully charged and switches to trickle charge. The battery charger delivers only as much current as is necessary to avoid a self-discharge of the battery. Thus it is ensured that you always have a charged battery available. There is a fast charge button on the charger. So it is possible to reduce charging time to appr. 40% of normal charge time. If fast charging a red LED is shining additionally to the yellow one. if no LED is shining after inserting battery on power at charger or the yellow LED is flashing continuously, the battery is bad. ‘The polarity of the battery charger is interchanged to be able to charge | batteries type MINI-EX-___. Never try to charge batteries of any other | type, as both battery charger and battery will be destroyed. To achieve a long durability of your batteries they should only be charged when the low-battery indication of the corresponding transmitter emits either an acoustical or an optical signal, depending on transmitter type. The battery charger MINI UHC-2-AC-EX or MINI UHC-2-DC-EX must only be operated outside hazardous area 2.1.4. Battery MINI-EX-__ _ The explosion-proof battery type MINI-EX-___ is destined for the supply of portable, intrinsically safe devices (e.g. radio transmitters) in hazardous areas. It has the duty to restrict current to < 1,1 A in case of a short-circuit of the feeder clamp. | For the discharging process the battery is inserted in a corresponding battery compartment of the operating device to be supplied. The battery may be discharged and changed within the hazardous area The spare battery may be taken into the hazardous area, but the operator has to keep it always with him. The battery must only be charged in HETRONIC battery chargers specially marked with EX, type MINI UHC-2-AC-EX or MINI UHC-2-DC-EX and only outside hazardous areas. The battery housing consists of a black polyester moulding material. The non-antistatic projected surface of the batteries is < 20 cm?. The contacts of the EX-batteries are interchanged to those of the standard batteries, in order to avoid operation of the intrinsically safe device with wrong batteries.
