Fest scheduled for March 28,
2017 at the Lamar-Dixon Expo

St. Theresa Food Bank.

was chosen as Gonzales Garden Clubs Residential Yard of the Month for March for its plush
design and variations of color and texture. The beds are comprised of agapanthus, azaleas,
privet, olive, pomegranate, pear trees and crape myrtle. Owner Susan Kimes noted that the
plants bloom in a continual succession from spring though summer into autumn adding interest
and beauty to this quiet neighborhood.
The Gonzales Garden Club chose KopyKats Printing Company at 226 Burnside Avenue as
Februarys Commercial Landscape of the Month for its neat maintenance and bright colors.
Plantings included blooming pansies and knock out roses with a healthy row of boxwood shrubs
forming a hedge below the windows.

Are you Surviving?
I want to discuss something
relevant and life changing.
So, I ask you
Are you happy with where
you are in life? Are you
really fulfilled?
A guest pastor asked us a few
weeks ago, Are you surviving?
If so, thats not exactly where
you want to be, unless youve
recently been through a life
threatening event. You should
not survive but thrive. But in
order to thrive, youve got to
have the right environment.
Just like plants need sunlight,
water, and sometimes fertilizer,
we also need elements in and
around us to flourish. As
human beings, we should all be
growing and developing -
emotionally, mentally, and cer-
tainly spiritually. Stagnant water
is not good to drink from, and
neither should we be stagnant.
Have a clear VISION
Every brilliant idea or invention
started with and idea and that
idea had a vision. Why not have
a vision for your life? If your
vision is hazy or uncertain, make
it clear. Spend some time
with yourself and use your
imagination. If you would
consider your perfect life what
would it look like? Maybe its
time for you to sit down with
pen and paper and write down
what that vision look like and

contain. I believe that as life
happens we lose our hope for
what we thought would be an
amazing future for ourselves,
so its important that as life
happens we keep our vision,
even if that vision changes!
Now, Im not saying life is
perfect, (for in this life we will
have hardships) but we should
never give up on our hopes and
dreams. Its what gives us that
sparkle in our eyes, that thing
that everyone knows but cant
define, and that passion to get
up in the morning with
undeniable energy in
our bodies.
Surround yourself
with people that
INSPIRE
Just like natural elements (the
sun, wind, earth, and rain) make
up the environment around
you, so do people! Make sure
you surround yourself with
people that will allow you to
thrive. People that are in their
purpose inspire me the most.
That doesnt mean making the
most money or having the
biggest title at a workplace, but
it means someone who knows
what they were put on this
Earth to do and are doing it.
So, put yourself in the presence
of people that encourage you,
lift you up, and believe in your
success even before you
believe it.
Faith without
ACTIONS is dead
Do you expect to have a fulfilled
marriage without kindness and
forgiveness? Do you believe
you will have an athletes body
without training? Do you have
faith to get out of debt yet keep
spending beyond your means?
That wont happen without
action on your part. You must
continue to have wisdom
concerning your vision and
what it will take to achieve it.
When you truly believe, walking
out your vision is easy. Thats
something that will take
discipline...believing I mean.
You may have a setback and
want to give up, but youve got
to keep on moving towards
that goal if your want that
dream to manifest.
You see how all of these work
together to define your pathway
to success? Have a vision,
surround yourself with positive
people that inspire and uplift
you, and finally, create your
plan of action to walk towards
that dream. So, dont just
survive but thrive!

We as Americans are a free-
wheeling society. We like our
cars, and we like our freedom
to go where we please, when
we please. But as loved ones
get older, you may find your-
self in the unenviable position
of trying to keep them off the
road when they start to lose
the ability to operate an auto-
mobile safely. The question
then becomes, whats the best
way to take the keys away?
As people get older, their abil-
ity to drive safely can be im-
pacted by a variety of factors.
Failing eyesight can be a prob-
lem, as can poor hearing.
Slowed reaction times can in-
crease the chance of accidents.
Even medications can have
side effects that make driving
more difficult. But removing
your loved ones freedom to
drive may be removing what
they see as their last source of
independence, and they may
not surrender the keys will-
ingly. With some planning,
you can enlist the help of oth-
ers to keep you from being the
bad guy in your loved ones
eyes.
A good place to start is an
open and honest conversation
with your loved one, explain

suggest other options for

help of your loved ones physi-
cian or eye care specialist.
They can offer counsel as to
the dangers posed by health or
vision problems, and often, a
person will listen to their care
providers where they wont lis-
ten to their children.
You may also consider meeting
with someone at the Depart-
ment of Motor Vehicles to ask
that the Department request a
new vision examination, paper
exam, or driving test for your
loved one. The Departments
decision as to someones abil-
ity to drive safely based on
their own examination will de-
termine whether your loved
one can stay on the road - if
Mom or Dad cant pass the
written exam or a road test,
their license wont be renewed.
This does remove the child
from the decision-making
process, and may take some of
the tension out of the surren-
der of driving privileges. But
be aware, Mom or Dad may
want to know whose idea it
was that they be retested, so
its a good idea to be prepared
to have that conversation with
them if the need arises.
There is also an option local to
the Baton Rouge area that may
offer valuable assistance in this
situation. Upon a physicians
order, Baton Rouge Rehabili-
tation Hospital will conduct a
comprehensive driving evalua-
tion to aid in determining an
individuals ability to drive
safely. The evaluation includes
both a clinical portion, con-
ducted by an occupational
therapist to determine the im-
pact of health conditions (such
as stroke or Alzheimers) and
functional limitations (such as
vision problems and slower re-
action times) on driving safety,
and an on-road evaluation,
completed by a Driving Rehab
Specialist, to assess the individ-
uals driving ability. Once the
evaluation is completed, the
occupational therapist and
Driving Rehab Specialist will
make recommendations for
driving safety, which may in-
clude driver training, adaptive
equipment for the vehicle, lim-
itations on driving distance,
time of day, or speed, and, if
necessary, complete restriction
of driving privileges. For more

The New Direction of
Google Search 2017

revolution started taking place, as
it marked the first time that
Google searches on mobile
devices surpassed desktop use.
Since then, the margin between
the two has only grown
exponentially larger. Currently
Googles search engine is re-
volved around desktop-based
indexing, but on November 4th,
2016 Google released a blog
confirming that in the upcoming
months, it would be permanently
pushing mobile-first indexing,
eventually, on a larger scale. In
other words, consider your
mobile and desktop website with
the same level of importance.
Currently, mobile-first indexing is
in the experimental stages mainly
including a limited group of users
that will be expanded once
Google is confident that they
have achieved a desirable user
experience. If your website is
both desktop and mobile friendly,
then you will have nothing to
worry about. If not, you have to
make Mobile SEO a priority, as
mobile-first indexing will become

provide IV sedation in the
dental office.
Does the thought of having
your teeth fixed make your entire
body tense with fear? Would you
rather endure the agony of a
toothache than step foot in a
dentist's office? You're not
alone. A lot of people are so pho-
bic about going to the
dentist that they prefer not to
have any treatment.
For people who avoid dentists
like the plague, sedation dentistry
may take away some of their anxi-
ety. Sedation can be used for
everything from invasive proce-
dures to a simple teeth cleaning.
How it's used depends on the
severity of the fear.
What Is Sedation Dentistry?
Sedation dentistry uses
medication to help patients relax
during dental procedures. It's
sometimes referred to as "sleep
dentistry. The levels of
sedation used include:

Moderate sedation (formerly
called "conscious sedation") --
You may slur your words when
speaking and not remember
much of the procedure.
Deep sedation -- you are on

What Types of Sedation Are
Used in Dentistry?
The following types of sedation
are used in dentistry:
Inhaled minimal sedation.
You breathe nitrous oxide --
otherwise known as "laughing
gas" -- combined with oxygen
through a mask that's placed over
your nose. The gas helps you
relax. Your dentist can
control the amount of sedation
you receive, and the gas tends to
wear off quickly. This is the only
form of sedation where you may
be able to drive yourself home
after the procedure.
Oral sedation. Depending on the
total dose given, oral sedation
can range from minimal to
moderate. For minimal sedation,
you take a pill. Typically, the pill
is Halcion, which is a member of
the same drug family as Valium,
and it's usually taken about an
20
hour before the procedure. The
pill will make you drowsy, al-
though you'll still be awake. A
larger dose may be given to pro-
duce moderate sedation. Some
people become groggy enough
from moderate oral sedation to
actually fall asleep during the pro-
cedure but this is rare.
IV moderate sedation.
You receive the sedative drug
through a vein, so it goes to work
more quickly. This method allows
the dentist to titrate the drugs,
which means he can
continually adjust the level of se-
dation until it is ideal for the in-
dividual patient. You cannot do
this with oral sedation. Iv seda-
tion also makes it possible to give
multiple combination of drugs to
suit the patient, as all people have
different tolerances to different
types of drugs.
Regardless of which type of
sedation you receive, you'll also
typically need a local anesthetic --
numbing medication at the site
where the dentist is working in
the mouth -- to relieve pain if the
procedure causes any
discomfort.
Who Can Have Sedation at
the Dentist's?
Sedation is most appropriate for
people with a real fear or anxiety
that is preventing them from
going to the dentist.

Sometimes, children are given se-
dation if they are terrified of
going to the dentist or refuse to
cooperate during the visit. Ni-
trous oxide tends to be safe in
children, and just about any den-
tist can administer it.
Can Any Dentist
Perform Sedation?
All states require dentists to
provide proof of advanced
training and a certain number of
sedation cases completed under
supervision in order to obtain a
license for IV sedation. It's im-
portant to make sure that your
dentist is trained and qualified to
administer the type and level of
sedation you will be receiving.
The dentist should monitor your
vital signs during the procedure
following the American Dental
Association's guidelines. The
dentist should also have oxygen -
- artificial ventilation -- and drugs
that reverse the effects of seda-
tion on hand in case you need
them.

Brady James Chifici, a name that
will live forever in the hearts of
disabled children. Brady was
diagnosed with Spinal Bifida at
22 weeks into my wifes
pregnancy, although we cannot
question Gods plan, it was his
will. Brady passed on to our Lord
on December 21, 2016. This
horrible life changing experience
has brought us to want to be able
to help families that have went
through the same experience we
went through or are going through
on a daily basis. My wife and I
have started the Brady James
Chifici Sport Foundation in honor
of our little man that we have lost.
On February 18, 2017 at the
VFW Hall on Churchpoint Road in
Gonzales Louisiana with the help
of Brent Gautreaux, we held our
benefit to help our disabled
children of our community and
surrounding areas. We raised
funds to provide families with
medical issues, sickness, and
low income families with some

that the freshwater caused a
spike in aquatic vegetation in
the lake that is holding scores of
bait. The fishing there should
be very good this summer.
Many from this area make
tracks for the Reggio-Delacroix
area. It stands for reason. It's a
little further trip than Lake
Pontchartrain, but it's not near
as far a truck ride as Grand Isle
stretch of highway roadside be-
tween Reggio and Delacriox. I
have never been to that spot
and not been successful. Please
try that spot with your kids.

ing just a short drive from our
parish. Try the Tchefuncte
River, Old River in Morganza,

Oxford Hunting Club Camp Owners
Association Improve Standards.
The members Oxford Hunting Club
has evolved from from pup tents and
sleeping bags on the ground at the
Old Camp to the State Park we live in
today.
I thought Id reflect on some of the
inadequate dwellings weve resided in.
There was the drunk tank that at
one time was a high class place.
I personally have resided any many
structures that made me the black
sheep of residential living at the camp.
There was the Batcave and The Crys-
tal Palace. Lets not forget the Beverly
Hill Billies replica known as the Cab-

There was a time when this van that
was drug to the camp to be the best
dwelling at the camp because it was
water proof and solid.

 Mardi Gras at the
Pink House in Church Point
The Pink House on Main Street in Church Point,
Louisiana is where a Mardi Gras tradition first took
place in 1999. Mike Jagneaux started cooking at the
pink house for this Mardi Gras celebration to
alleviate the burden of his mother, Enola Daigle
Jagneaux, having to prepare food and clean-up for
all the family and friends that used the Pink House
as the Mardi Gras reunion place.
Like many families in 1968, Mikes family miagrated
to Ascension Parish from Church Point and Port
Sulpher to work at thge Uncle Sam Plant near
Convent.
Once a year they return to Church Point to enjoy
their roots with the chasing of the chickens for gumbo
and reconnect with family and friends.
Next year visit the parade in Chuch Point and
experience South Louisiana at its best.

It has been a great pleasure to represent the people of District 59 in the Louisiana House of

What is Relay For Life?
Relay For Life is the American Cancer Societys signature
fund-raising event, bringing communities together in hope,
celebration and memory. It is a unique event that offers
everyone in the community an opportunity to participate in the
fight against cancer. The event remembers those who have lost
the fight against cancer and honors those who have survived.
Who participates?
Because Relay For Life is a community event, everyone is
encouraged to participate. Teams of 10 to 15 people form from

businesses, clubs, families, friends, hospitals, churches, schools
and service organizations. These people share a common
purpose their support of the American Cancer Societys
mission. During the event, team members take turns walking on
the track setting up a tent site. Each participant is encouraged
to raise at least $100 for the American Cancer Society.
Why Relay For Life?
This year, it is estimated that more than 1,500 people each day
will die from cancer. More than 1.4 million new cases of cancer
are expected to be diagnosed in 2015. Cancer is the second
leading cause of death in the United States, and one of every
three deaths is from cancer. In the United States, men have a
one in two lifetime risk of developing cancer;
for women the risk is one in three. Relay For
Life represents the hope that those lost to
cancer will never be forgotten, that those
who face cancer will be supported and that
one day cancer will be eliminated.

 Ingredients:
Cooking Gourmet at Home
with SNOS SEAFOOD & STEAKS
6 eggs (hard boiled)
cup mayonnaise
to lb peeled boiled crawfish tails
cup green onions (thinly sliced)
2 boiled red potatoes (mashed)
1 tablespoon Creole mustard
1 teaspoon dry crab boil mix
Salt & Pepper to taste
1 or 2 corn cobs (cut corn off of the cob)

After the Boil Method:

Peel all of your boiled eggs. Cut them in half length ways and
carefully remove the yolks. Place all the yolks in a mixing bowl
Deviled Eggs and add your mayo, mustard and green onions. Be sure that
before adding your corn and potatoes that you chop and mash
them as much as possible to ensure proper mixture. Finally,
