2. Where do they live and how big is their territory? They live in north of Idaho, Washington, and
western Montana. Their territory is about 5, 000, 000 acers

3. How did they view buffalo hunting? Buffalo hunting was viewed as an adventures for youth to go
into manhood

4. Who gave them the nickname Coeur dAlene? Frenchmen gave the Indian tribes their names

5. What does Coeur dAlene mean? Means heart of the awl

6. How does the council interact with the U.S. Government? By having an intra-family dispute

7. What is the ultimate goal of the tribes elected leaders? To set self-sufficiency back into the tribe

8. How will they achieve this? By having economic development, high employment and educational
opportunities

lake which had oil and waste dumped into and destroyed it

and other lands of water

13. How did the ancient Coeur dAlene earn their livings? The tribe earned their livings by nature (ex:
lakes and streams, churning of salmon, trout etc.)

14. What is the reservations current economy based on? Reservation is based on agriculture
productivity

been existing since immemorial, and recognized as the constitution of the US

and Indian nations? Most common government to government is the power of congress to make
treaties

20. What is unique about the tribes in Idaho? Is where the tragedies of war occurred

21. Why do tribal members say them commitment to preservation and control of their heritage? They
say it for the benefits of future generations, because of their connections of the land and ancestors
