(1) Find a parametrization R(u, v) and the normal vector Ru Rv for the following surfaces:
(a) The plane x y + 2z + 4 = 0.
(b) The right circular cylinder y 2 + z 2 = a2 .
(c) The right circular cylinder of radius 1 whose axis is along the line x = y = z.

(2) Let R : R2 R3 be a parametrization of a smooth surface S. Find the parametric equation

of the tangent plane to S at R(u0 , v0 ). In particular, consider R(u, v) := (u2 , v 2 , u + 2v)
and find the equation of tangent at R(u0 , v0 ).

(3) Let g : D R2 R be C 1 . Consider the surface S = Graph(g) with outward unit normal
n
