Soon Ah Will Be Done

The song Soon Ah Will Be Done was composed and written by William L. Dawson.
He was born on September 26, 1899 and died on May 2, 1990. His hometown is Anniston
Alabama. He graduated from the Horner Institute of Fine Arts with a Bachelor of Music. The
Chicago Musical College was where he later studied with professor Felix Borowski. Dawson
then went to the American Conservatory of Music and received his masters degree.

One of his works is Soon Ah Will Be Done-a-wid de Troubles of the World. This song
was made to represent the African Americans that would sing while working in the fields. There
are deeper meanings to this song as well. It is almost as if this song is a prayer that they would
hope for the best. The beginning goes from silent to singing with all weve got.

Soon Ah Will Be Done has been one of my favorite songs to sing in Madrigals. The
way we sing together to perform this piece is incredible. One of my favorite parts from the song
is towards the end when we all sing no more walin. Another one of my favorite parts is when
we silently sing in the beginning and towards the middle we get louder. Overall, I really enjoyed
this song.
