SIMPLE RF - LF INTERFACE

FOR A SHORTWAVE RECEIVER

(2009)

KLIK HIER VOOR DE NEDERLANDSE VERSIE

The shortwave receiver GRUNDIG Yacht Boy 80 with the RF - LF interface.

Why a RF - LF interface?
Nowadays it is possible to buy a nice portable shortwave receiver for a very reasonable price
with which you also can receive SSB. Incredibly, the long wave, medium wave, short wave
and also the FM band, even in stereo! And that for an amount of money of which you could
only dream of in the past!
I bought the GRUNDIG Yacht Boy 80. No top receiver of course, but excellent to use as a
portable receiver. The frequency can be adjusted in increments of 1 kHz and there is an extra
button on the side panel for fine tuning of SSB signals. A great receiver for many pleasant
hours of listening at various locations. Similar receivers are for example the Sangean PT-80
and the ANJAN DTS-09.
But I also wanted to connect an external antenna and to connect the LF output to the
soundcard input of my computer. The receiver has a connector for an external antenna. But
with an external antenna, the receiver was quickly overloaded. And the Local / DX switch
which does attenuate the antenna signal, had too much attenuation. Therefore, a very simple
RF - LF interface was made with an adjustable potentiometer as RF attenuator and a
matching network with resistors to connect the LF output of the receiver with the soundcard
input of the PC. Digital modes can be decoded now with the PC.

The very simple RF - LF interface with an adjustable potentiometer

as RF attenuator and a matching network to connect the LF output to the PC.
Diagram.
Knobs and connections at the side panels.
PSK31 reception is possible now with the PC.
Here with the program Multipsk van F6CTE.
The Sangean PT-80 looks identical to the GRUNDIG Yacht Boy 80.

Hearing Aids Circuit
GaryC

TDA2822

This is a less expensive, and DIY option for a hearing aid. It is not a substitute for a real
hearing aid that an audiologist would prescribe. Amplification of all sounds and frequencies,
or constant use in loud environments can cause additional hearing loss. This circuit could be
helpful for some types of hearing loss and occasional use, as well as fill in during the average
amount of time people wait to get a hearing aid (7 years).

This low-cost, general-purpose electronic circuit works off 3V DC (21.5V battery).

Transistor T1 and associated components form the audio signal preamplifier for the acoustic
signals picked up by the condenser microphone and converted into corresponding electrical
signals.
Application

Medical grade hearing aids are very expensive, if a person needs help hearing but not
necessarily the full cost and capability of a prescribed hearing aid, this might be an option.

The medium-power amplifier section is wired around popular audio amplifier IC TDA2822M
(not TDA2822). This IC, specially designed for portable low-power applications, is readily
available in 8-pin mini DIP package. Here the IC is wired in bridge configuration to drive the
32-ohm general-purpose monophonic earphone.

The audio output of this aid circuit is 10 to 15 mW and the quiescent current drain is below 1
mA. The circuit can be easily assembled on a veroboard. For easy assembling and
maintenance, use an 8-pin DIP IC socket for TDA2822M.

:Circuit Operation

In this circuit, transistor Q1 and associated components form the audio signal preamplifier for
the acoustic signals picked up by the condenser microphone and converted into
corresponding electrical signals. Resistor R5 and capacitor C3 decouple the power supply of
the preamplifier stage. Resistor R1 biases the internal circuit of the low-voltage condenser
microphone for proper working. The audio output from the preamplifier stage is fed to the
.input of the medium-power amplifier circuit via capacitor C2 and volume control P1

The medium-power amplifier section is wired around popular audio amplifier IC TDA2822M
(not TDA2822). This IC, specially designed for portable low-power applications, is readily
available in 8-pin mini DIP package. Here the IC is wired in bridge configuration to drive the

Microphone Preamplifiers

This cheap hearing aids circuit project or the small listen booster is a simple function similar
to the function of the common audio amplifier.
The work starts with a preamplifier circuits, the light and amplifier. To be the stronger. To
receive audio signals from a. microphone to be larger to increase the volume up, Before it is
sent to a power amplifier to power up again, To drive headphones to we hear.

The specialty of this preamplifier circuit at The Automatic level control circuit-ALC. Which
will operates at a fixed control volume automatically. This part of the circuit, the sound has
been very loud, the circuit is to reduce the volume down. On the other hand, if soft the circuit
is increased the volume up. Make us hear all the levels. Both lot and the less sound. Adjust
the volume as needed. To set the volume to a level that is appropriate for each person.

How this circuit works

-In the Figure 1 is a complete circuit of the cheap hearing aids project. The works of circuit
will starts with the microphone MIC1, that is a condenser microphone, This MIC will be need
has a voltage supply, It get a current with a battery pass through the resistor R1 10K.
-A sound signal from MIC will be connected through capacitor C1 value 0.1 uF, to amplify
into the base pin(?B) of transistor Q1 number BC547. Which serves as a pre-amplifier audio
amplifier in the first set.

-The output signal at the pin collector-C is connected through a capacitor C2 connected to the
transistor Q2 acts as the second preamplifier. The circuit setting this manner a very high gain,
by has the resistors R3,R5 are a load, the R4 is a feedback and bias base to the transistor Q2
works.

-The sound signal that passed the preamplifier, will be connected via the capacitor C3, and to
the control volume level that acts by the transistor Q3, The Mission of the transistor Q3, the
building is a voltage bias to the base of transistor Q1 to control the amplifier. By voltage that
occurs from the introduction of the sound signal. from the output of the preamplifier circuit
go to the rectifier to make the DC voltage by have the diode D1 work together.

-The voltage that is filtered to the stable level before moving up, by the capacitor C4 is to
delay the rhythm in volume control to fast or slow. If the driver makes a slow pace before the
base of transistor Q1 pass way the resistor R2.

-The MIC has been loud, will has a bias signal the transistor Q3 a lot. As a result, the voltage
at collector pin-C of Q3 will decreased. As a result, the voltage across the capacitor C4 is
very close from the power supply (due to resistor R7 is connected) is pulled to decrease, too.

-This control volume level voltage will send pass through the resistor R2 into the base of the
transistor Q1. If the voltage is high (Low MIC) It would make have current input to the
transistor Q1 makes the sound louder. And If the level volume control voltage have low level
(MIC loud). It would make current input to the transistor decreases. As a result, the audio
signal will be reduced accordingly. As a result, the noise level have nearly the same all the
time. Whether loud or soft.

-The sound signal through the control volume. Is sent to the power amplifier circuit to drive
headphones to hear. Served by the transistor Q4 number BC337 has the potentiometer VR1 to
adjust the volume. Connection signal through the capacitor C9 serves the signal feed back
and bias to the transistor works in class A. The capacitor C7 will reduce the growth rate in the
high frequency range. To reduce noise and maintain the stability of circuit.

The sound signal from the collector pin is driven through headphones connected directly with
the power supply. The headphones that will act as a DC voltage to the load of the amplifier
circuit. It must be dynamic headphones with impedance of the power supply as well. No
more, no less, in the range from 16 to 32 ohms. Which will be the typical impedance of
headphones already.A crystal earphones or a pizo ceramic headphones. Can not be used in
this project. Due to the value high resistance power. Will not load current circuit to operate.

The headphone is used, can be used both headphones Mono and stereo. With the jumper JP1
is an option that will used with stereo or mono headphones. Because this project uses a stereo
jack socket. The internal structure of the jack may have caused a short circuit at the jack male
mono. This jumper must be set aside to float circuit. If you intend to use with any stereo
headset only. It can be Connection short jumper was not permanent.
How to makes and adjustable

In figure 2 is PCB layout for build this circuit.

The circuit can will throb sound when turned on. Is typical of the output are used to current
the self through headphones. Applications should be turned on before you wear headphones.
And first off was to remove the ear is removed. The current flowing through the load.
(Headphones or speakers) all time is not good.

In the case of high-watt power amplifier. Because it can cause have current to flow through
lot headphones. In the earphones and the wire burn. But in this case, the power supply is
1.5V. The circuit use low current consumption 26-27mA (Use stereo headphones Impedance
16 ohm.) The headphone jack is not less than 1mA current during the power flow headphones
have a 7-8mA per watt is equivalent to approximately 1-1.3mW per side, which is still in the
safe range. It is not fair.

Motion Triggered Spy Cam
by Kipkay

Now you can do secret surveillance with this "caught-in-motion" spy video cam that records
covert video and audio.

See it in action and the test results!

Step 1: What You Need...

1. Motion Sensing Door Chime. Radio Shack Part #49-426
2. Mini Spy Cam DVR from Ebay
3. 200uF Capacitor
4. Any Reed Relay
5. Diode 1N4001, 1N4007, etc.
6. Momentary Switch

Step 2: Prepare the Motion Sensor

Disasemble the Motion Sensor. There is opnly one screw under the battery compartment.
Remove it and then pry apart the case. Cut or desolder the speaker leads and the external
output cable and connector. This should leave you with just the circuit board and the 9V
power connector.

Step 3: Assemble the Components

Time to assemble the components that link the motion sensor and the DVR.

Follow the included schematic.

1. Solder the diode to the reed relay paying attention to the cathode (-) position. The purpose
of the diode is to prevent voltage flow back into the circuit when the relay is triggered.

2. Solder the capacitor to the diode. Again, pay attention to the striped (-) marking on the
capacitor.
The purpose of the capacitor is to turn the relay into a temporary switch by limiting the
voltage pulses to a single pulse rather than the continual pulses the alarm gives out.

3. Make your connection from the (+) side of the cap to J2 on the circuit board. J2 is the
trigger point for the motion sensor.

4. Make your connection from the anode (+) side of the diode to ground located where the 9V
wires are at J5 on the circuit board.

5. Run two wires from the outside contacts on the relay to your switch. The switch allows
you to stop recordin and power off the DVR.

Step 4: Prepare the DVR

This is tricky. On the end of the mini DVR is a super-micro push button switch that must be
de-soldered and removed. This may require an assistant to carefully lift up on each side with
a tiny screwdriver as you heat the contacts. Once the switch is removed, solder two leads to
the two contacts. Then wire the two leads to the outside contact on the reed relay. Done!

Step 5: Test it Out

At this point you should be able to press the momentary switch and the DVR should power
up (yellow indicator) and begin recording (blue indicator).

Then attach a 9v battery and slide the switch on the motion sensor to the alarm position.
(towards the 9v wires). There is a built-in 15 second delay when you turn it on to allow you
to place the sensor and walk away. After that you should be able to wave your hand across the
sensor and the DVR should power up and begin recording. While the sensor lens increases
the range to around 30', eliminating it will reduce that distance so keep that in mind when you
place it in service.

The DVR is USB based. The movie files (352 X 288 12fps) are located in the "movies' folder
when you plug in the DVR to your computer.

Have Fun, Be Safe and use responsibly.

We have a be nice comment policy.

Please be positive and constructive.

I think I'll do this with a still camera, as that will give more useful results for my application,
and with a multi-gig card it will take high quality pictures non-stop (every second or so) for
the whole "detect on" time then stop. Then it will do it again once the trigger goes again.
Another way to do this might be to make a small timer circuit that gets toggled on by the
sensor and that then sends an off signal a few seconds after the sensor stops detecting. A 555
timer should be enough for that. Once you've got the circuit wired up, you could use a mains
circuit to power it for as long as you want.

I bought the dvr a few months ago and it worked great, i finally got around to buying the rest
