INTRODUCTION
The Well Design and Operation Management Plan has a requirement to have a 75bbls
Kick Tolerance for hole sizes greater than 17 and 200psi overbalance over pore
pressure at all times ( Part 3 Section 2.4 Kick Tolerance Standards, Part 4 Section 5.4
Primary Well Control Standards ).
Drilling program on the 19th Nov. 2015 referenced the Drilling Fluids Program dated
October 28th 2015. It called for drilling this section under closed loop using Native Clay
Circulating System. High viscous Bentonite sweeps will be pumped and incorporated into
sea water while drilling.
Following the potential low kick tolerance anticipated and Ocean Rig requirements of a 0.5
kick intensity on exploration wells it was required to risk asses and put mitigation
measures in place to address the kick tolerance requirements. Hence it was decide to use
a closed loop weighted mud system which provides adequate mitigating measures to re-
assure Ocean Rig.
Proposed departure
None. Additional measures to mitigate 0.5 kick intensity while
from Policy:
calculating kick tolerance.
Additional Costs
Yes
