ENDING OUR RESISTANCE TO LOVE . The term resistance appears infrequently in A Course in Miracles, yet it is
the only concept that can satisfactorily explain the paradox of students sincerely attempting to learn and live its
principles under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, while experiencing the ongoing frustration of not doing just that.
This is the topic explored in this book, which consists of an edited transcription of a talk given to a group of stu-
dents by Kenneth Wapnick, supplemented with two articles, co-authored with his wife Gloria, that appeared in the
Foundations newsletter, The Lighthouse. The focus is on the many forms of resistance and their basis in the fear
of love. Freuds valuable insights are discussed, along with Jesus role in helping us look without judgment at our

OUR EARLIEST M EMORY. This five-day Academy class focuses on the symphonic nature of our lives, with the
theme of our lifes symphony being enunciated in our earliest memory. This themealmost always one of
victimizationgoes through a quasi-endless series of variations that comprise the fabric of our experience here.
Despite the profound wrong-minded investment in being unfairly treated, we can yet learn the right-minded
response of forgiveness that cancels out this memory, substituting the Holy Spirits present memory that awakens
us from the egos dreams of separation and specialness. Questions and discussion on related topics, such as the
metaphysics of time, punctuate the presentation.

EXCERPTS SERIES
The Inner Voice, the March 2004 seminar, is the subject of our next series of excerpts, which will follow the
completion of our series on gratitude. The teaching and discussion of readings in this class focus on the principle that
one cannot hear the Voice of the Holy Spirit without first hearing, recognizing, and then choosing against the inner voice
of the ego. This corrects the common misperception that in hearing an inner voice one is automatically hearing the Holy
Spirit. These excerpts can be found at the Foundations Web site at www.facim.org.

ACADEMY CLASSES
Faculty: Drs. Kenneth Wapnick, Rosemarie LoSasso, and Jeffrey Seibert
Times: 10:00 a.m. 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. 4:30 p.m.

A-4 L OVE MAKES NO C OMPARISONS

Dates: April 26 28 Fee: $100.00 for entire program; $40.00 for each individual day.
A-4D1 April 26 Fee: $40.00 A-4D2 April 27 Fee: $40.00 A-4D3 April 28 Fee: $40.00
This important idea characterizes the holy relationship, and is stated twice in A Course in Miracles (T-24.II.1:1; W-pI.195.4:2).
It reflects the total lack of judgment that is our goal as we practice the Courses principles of forgiveness. Ending our perception of
comparisons corrects the exclusivity that is the hallmark of the special relationship, which seeks always to fragment the Sonship that
the Holy Spirits true perception unifies.

A-5 T HE M ETHOD IN OUR EGOS M ADNESS

Dates: May 24 26 Fee: $100.00 for entire program; $40.00 for each individual day.
A-5D1 May 24 Fee: $40.00 A-5D2 May 25 Fee: $40.00 A-5D3 May 26 Fee: $40.00
The famous line from Hamlet (Though this be madness, yet there is method in't.) is the basis for this class on the egos purpose
of its thought system of separation and guilt, which results in a separated world of guilt and specialness; the egos twofold wish
being to sustain our separated existence, yet hold others responsible for it and our unhappy condition. Lecture, discussion, and read-
ings will help deepen understanding of the egos method of reinforcing its insane dream of separation, and how the shift to Jesus
forgiveness gently ends it.

A-6 T HE N EUTRAL WORLD

Dates: June 14 16 Fee: $100.00 for entire program; $40.00 for each individual day.
A-6D1 June 14 Fee: $40.00 A-6D2 June 15 Fee: $40.00 A-6D3 June 16 Fee: $40.00
A Course in Miracles tells us that the body is a wholly neutral thing (W-pII.299), meaning that once the body was made by the
ego to limit love (T-18.VIII.1:1-4) and the world made to attack God (W-pII.3.2:1), they become neutral, ready to serve either the
egos purpose of maintaining the dream, or the Holy Spirits purpose of awakening us from it. Thus our lives as bodies merely await
the minds decision. Lecture and readings augment discussion of this important topic.

A-7 L EADING L IVES OF Q UIET DESPERATION

Dates: July 12 14 Fee: $100.00 for entire program; $40.00 for each individual day.
A-7D1 July 12 Fee: $40.00 A-7D2 July 13 Fee: $40.00 A-7D3 July 14 Fee: $40.00
The famous line of ThoreauThe mass of men lead lives of quiet desperationis the basis of this class, which explores the
desperation and hopelessness that characterize the lives of most of us. The world itself offers little hope, having been made to keep
true hope hidden. This lies only in the mind, where the mistake was made and the only place it can be corrected. Through lecture,
discussion, and readings, we explore the nature of the problem (the egos special relationships) and how to gain access to the solu-
tion (the Holy Spirits forgiveness).

A-8 A PPEARANCE VERSUS R EALITY

Dates: August 9 11 Fee: $100.00 for entire program; $40.00 for each individual day.
A-8D1 August 9 Fee: $40.00 A-8D2 August 10 Fee: $40.00 A-8D3 August11 Fee: $40.00
Plato can be said to be the first philosopher to have explored the relationship between appearance and reality, what A Course in
Miracles calls illusion and truth. In our everyday lives, this contrast takes the form of distinguishing between the egos illusions of
attack and defense, and Jesus truth of our expressing love or calling for it. Thus the Courses metaphysical foundationappearance
versus realitywill be the backdrop against which we discuss forgiveness as the means of undoing the egos thought system of spe-
cialness by learning to correct the egos misperceptions.

A-9 A BOVE THE BATTLEGROUND

Dates: Sept. 13 15 Fee: $100.00 for entire program; $40.00 for each individual day.
A-9D1 September 13 Fee: $40.00 A-9D2 September 14 Fee: $40.00 A-9D3 September 15 Fee: $40.00
The section of the same name (T-23.IV) is the basis of this class, which will focus on asking Jesus for help to rise above the world
and see it through his eyes: the vision of Christ that perceives only the intrinsic sameness of Gods Son. Thus we are taught to rec-
ognize the same split mindwrong mind, right mind, decision makerin everyone we meet or even think about, looking beyond
the bodily differences that reinforce separation and breed conflict, to the love that is the common goal of all of us.
