Center

1: Estimation
1. Each student will receive
A. Recording Sheet
B. Addition and subtraction Sheet
2. The table will have a bag of number cards
3. Put the numbers face down on the table
4. One person will draw a three-digit number using the number cards
5. The group will write down the number under the actual column on each
of their papers
6. The group will then round the number to the nearest ten
7. The group will then take the rounded three-digit number and put it in the
first half of their addition problem
8. The next person in the group will draw another three-digit number
9. The group will round this number to the nearest ten
10.The group will then take the rounded three-digit number and put it in the
second half of their addition problem
11.The group will add their addition problem
12.Alternate between the addition and subtraction problems (do addition,
then do subtraction)
13.Continue these steps until time runs out

Center 2: Addition of multi-digit numbers
1. Each student will receive:
A. Addition Sheet
2. The table will have a bag of number cards
3. Divide your group members into 2 teams
4. Each team will draw a 5-digit number plus a 5-digit number using the
number cards (ex. Team 1 will draw a 5-digit number, and another 5-digit
number, team 2 is also doing this)
5. The teams will write their numbers into the spaces provided on their
addition sheets
6. The teams will add up their numbers
7. The teams will switch their answer sheets to check each others work
8. Whichever team with the higher sum gets a point
9. Subtract a point for a wrong answer



Center 3: Subtraction of multi-digit numbers
1. Each student will receive:
a. Subtraction Sheet
2. The table will have a bag of number cards
3. Divide your group members into 2 teams
4. Each team will draw a 5-digit number minus a 5-digit number using the
number cards (ex. Team 1 will draw a 5-digit number, and another 5-digit
number, team 2 is also doing this)
5. The teams will write their numbers into the spaces provided on their
subtraction sheets (put the larger number on the top)
6. The teams will subtract their numbers
7. The teams will switch their answer sheets to check each others work
8. Whichever team with the smaller difference gets a point
9. Subtract a point for a wrong answer

Center 4: Subtraction across zeros
1. Each student will receive
A. Find a Buddy worksheet
2. Solve the subtraction problems on the find the buddy worksheet as a group

Center 5: Test Review
1. Each student will receive
A. Test review worksheet
2. Start test review working with group members to help solve the problems

Center 6: Story Problem Cards:
1. Each student will receive:
A. Student Recording Sheet
2. The story problem cards should be lying face down on the table
3. One student will draw a card
4. Together the group will read and solve the story problem
5. They will record their answer to the problem on their student recording
sheet
